Found a black hair grip …

DH is at work, I’m in the middle of a deep clean. Whilst I was hoovering I found in the corner of the bedroom, kind of camouflaged into the carpet a black hair grip/Bobby pin whatever they’re called.
I’m blonde and have always been blonde, my kids are toddlers so do not use hair grips. No one else has been in our bedroom that would explain it.
I’ve also been away all week with the kids.

Aibu to be suspicious??? I’m also pregnant so know I don’t think rationally sometimes atm

Did you single-handedly build the house youtselves and no one else has ever lived or stayed there? If so then you’re not unreasonable. If not, then yes you’re unreasonable.

Same question re the carpet as others and yes, they do get everywhere. It is not the same as finding lacy knickers under a pillow so I wouldn't automatically think the worst

DoubleGauze · 11/03/2022 10:40

I wouldn't give it a second thought op. I've lived in my flat for 12 years and still find tiny odd things in various places. That grip could've been walked in on somebody's shoe.

Howshouldibehave · 11/03/2022 10:41

Not enough information. How long have you lived there and did you lay the carpet?

Whoopsies · 11/03/2022 10:43

Just before we moved into our house it was the previous owner's 40th birthday. The house was immaculately cleaned but we found quite a few pieces of '40' confetti around. It's been 5 years and we still find the odd piece of confetti every few months!! It must be hiding somewhere!

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 11/03/2022 10:43

@MrsSkylerWhite

I still occasionally find pine needles when I’m deep cleaning. Been here 12 years now and have an artificial tree. Really wouldn’t jump to conclusions (unless there’s history).
That's a clear sign someones having an affair with a Christmas tree. Best LTB straight away Wink
BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 11/03/2022 10:44

I’ve the house is not a new build or you’ve newly laid the carpet I wouldn’t give it too much thought. If there are other niggles that have you wondering then it could be more.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/03/2022 10:45

I shed them like dandruff - I have lots of curly hair that they get lost in, then fall out weeks later.

If I've ever visited you it might be mine!

JonSnowedUnder · 11/03/2022 10:47

Over the years I must have bought quite a few packs of these...currently could lay my hands on about three. Where are the others? No idea but could easily have ended up in other people's homes, cars etc.

On it's own I wouldn't worry.

HELLITHURT · 11/03/2022 10:49

@Itsnotover

The fact that you’ve been away all week and then this hair pin shows up would make me suspicious.
Are you always so distrustful?
Chasingaftermidnight · 11/03/2022 10:49

@LampLighter414

Sounds like it could have fallen out during a sexual encounter in the bedroom to me
Oh my god you genius! That thought definitely hasn’t occurred to the OP.
winesolveseverything · 11/03/2022 10:50

I use those hair grips as paper clips all the time- could it have found it's way into the house that way?

gymbummy · 11/03/2022 10:50

I suspect that it's mine, have you also got the 25,677 hair bobbles I have bought and never seen again in my own house? The fuckers are going somewhere (along with odd socks...). (Just for clarity I only sleep with my own husband and have no idea who yours is Grin)

Belladonna12 · 11/03/2022 10:51

There are millions of ways that could get there. Do you have a cat? Mine drops things like that around.

ClarencesWings · 11/03/2022 10:51

I think LampLighter was being facetious, based on the usual responses on here. And most of you missed the irony.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/03/2022 10:52

Those things get everywhere. My DD's spread them like fleas off a cat. I agree that if you did not lay that carpet then the chances are it has been there since the dawn of age. They were invented 100 years ago!

Ejk1990 · 11/03/2022 10:52

I found a Bobby pin a few months back. Last time I wore them was my wedding 6 years ago!

Dixiechickonhols · 11/03/2022 10:52

I’d go with could have been there years in same bracket as pine needles unless you have other cause for concern.

TheGirlWhoLived · 11/03/2022 10:52

Are your toddlers at preschool, nursery or childminders at all? Mine used to bring home lots of random bits in their pockets then when I washed their clothes they would spread out over the house. The fact that it’s in the corner of the room indicates to me that it has been buried down the side of the carpet for 17 years. If it was to have fallen out of “her” hair during something sordid then surely it would be in the bed or surrounding area!

Bluetrews25 · 11/03/2022 10:53

Was there an ironing board with it?

Ilostit · 11/03/2022 10:53

Exactly!!

OP those things are like paper clips - you buy so many of them over the years (when you need one you can’t fine one) and no one knows where they go! Looks like one ended up embedded in your carpet!

Georgeskitchen · 11/03/2022 10:54

Could have come in stuck to the bottom of a shoe?

SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2022 10:54

If you have been away could it have been caught up with your things ? Toddler picked it up ?

Parpophone · 11/03/2022 10:55

Well at least one person on MN has literally got a grip today Grin
