Found a black hair grip …

DH is at work, I’m in the middle of a deep clean. Whilst I was hoovering I found in the corner of the bedroom, kind of camouflaged into the carpet a black hair grip/Bobby pin whatever they’re called.
I’m blonde and have always been blonde, my kids are toddlers so do not use hair grips. No one else has been in our bedroom that would explain it.
I’ve also been away all week with the kids.

Aibu to be suspicious??? I’m also pregnant so know I don’t think rationally sometimes atm

Don’t worry, op. A Kirby grip is something that could easily lodge for years in the small gap between the skirting board and the floor, then work its way out/be dislodged by the suction from hoovers over time.

Absolutely this. Kirby grips get absolutely everywhere, it could easily be from the previous owners and has just appeared after this time due to movement in the room/vacuuming. It could just have easily come into the house on clothing.

I found two once
They wasn’t mine-my dd was about 5 at the time,my boys didn’t use them and the man who lived in the house before me didn’t use them
I just binned it

Those Bobby pins don't come in different colours too match your hair colour though, do they?? Confused
If you've ever had an up-do that'll be where it came from.

They do come in hair colours, I buy brown ones to match my hair but in the same shelf they always have blonde ones and black ones and sometimes multicoloured ones
NoSquirrels · 11/03/2022 11:23

@TyrannosaurusRegina

I'd confront him face to face and see his initial reaction.
In my house this would be pure bafflement on several fronts. I can’t even imagine it!

DH, what is THIS?
Err… a hair grip?
Do you know where I found it?
Err… no?
In our bedroom! In the corner of the carpet.
Err… right.
So how did it get there?
How should I know?
Confused

It's the opposite to socks, they just disappear like . You put half a dozen pairs of 'em in the wash and how many come out ? Usually eleven. Magic !

Zilla1 · 11/03/2022 11:24

Is there a male equivalent of an elusive Kirby that could give rise to suspicions of infidelity by a male DP if found in a bedroom. Struggling to think of something so thin.

Arabellla · 11/03/2022 11:24

Maybe it's from your lover's black locks, OP.

TalkSomeSense20 · 11/03/2022 11:26

@zerofuchsgiven Even I could see the sarcasm in that post [big grin]

I think they do come in different colours. I’ve seen them in dark brown/black and light brown, anyway.

AwayInMyMind · 11/03/2022 11:26

How long have you lived in the house ? Did you put the carpets down ?

watcherintherye · 11/03/2022 11:28

How about those white patches that men stick on shaving injuries? (Apparently. Have never seen one irl!)

ghostmouse · 11/03/2022 11:28

Bobby pins can come in dark and light shades. I’ve got both

MasterBeth · 11/03/2022 11:28

Erm, those white patches are… torn up bits of toilet paper/tissue.

These would be the "blonde" ones

Get a grip....!!

Oh are they? Grin I never knew! I always thought they were special bits of styptic paper, like the styptic pencil my Dad used to have in his shaving gear!
DoubleGauze · 11/03/2022 11:32

I once found a single earring in my hallway. Horrid , cheap looking thing. I just picked it up and threw it away.

Months later I was scrolling through my old fb profile pics. I was wearing the earring in 2010 apparently.

IcakethereforeIam · 11/03/2022 11:34

My mum used to use them to clean wax out of our ears (disclaimer, don't do this). I think one o'r two might still be down there.

WutheringCripes · 11/03/2022 11:34

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

I'm not sure I'd jump to conclusions over a Bobby pin, those things get everywhere. Come the apocalypse there'll just be them and the cockroaches left.
Precisely, and a few odd socks

Pretty sure the conversation would be the same in our house, too. If he were really on fire that day, he might ask why it was the wrong colour for my hair Grin

Those things will magically disappear from your own head only to resurface 5 years later 300 miles away
Unless you built the house, lay the carpets and meticulously clean every single crevice every night, and never ever have been near someone that has worn one (for at least a week before being near you) - there are about 5000 ways that could be there
Also, you have kids, I know you said boys… but kids (especially in the toddler stage) tend to collect the most random things known to humans… see where I’m going? kid found one in the playpark when he was 2.. put in in his underwear (because toddler logic) then a month later decided it needed to be safe, put it (for safekeeping) under your bed… it eventually felt from the safe hidden place….
And in 3 years (yes even if your kid is a teen then) you kid will come and demand to know where his special pin is….
