Found a black hair grip …

Wingingthis · 11/03/2022 10:20

DH is at work, I’m in the middle of a deep clean. Whilst I was hoovering I found in the corner of the bedroom, kind of camouflaged into the carpet a black hair grip/Bobby pin whatever they’re called.
I’m blonde and have always been blonde, my kids are toddlers so do not use hair grips. No one else has been in our bedroom that would explain it.
I’ve also been away all week with the kids.

Aibu to be suspicious??? I’m also pregnant so know I don’t think rationally sometimes atm

Strange how OP hasn't come back. She's either packing her or her DH's bags, or she's fallen down the hair grip vortex and has rematerialised under a bed 400 miles away.

Calandor · 11/03/2022 12:08

I think if you're this suspicious then there's something going on in your marriage tbh. Why so paranoid?

Any family members with dar hair? Could've fallen out of an old box, from the previous owners, a friend helping you move

SartresSoul · 11/03/2022 12:09

It depends where you found it I think. If it was in a spot you don’t usually clean then there’s every chance it was the previous owner/tenants unless you fit the carpet or it’s a brand new house that is… If you found it in a place you clean quite regularly I’d be more suspicious. If you’re certain you’ve never worn a black hair grip before so it’s definitely not yours, I’d ask DH if he knows where it’s from. Could be a logical explanation rather than jumping straight to an affair.

I just really want to know if @LampLighter414 was being sarcastic or if she genuinely thought she was coming up with a brilliant previously unthought of idea of what it could be.

@SpaghettiNotCourgetti 😂😂 this comment was worth scrolling 6 pages for.

@LampLighter414

Could he be having an affair OP?
What a stupid question
astoundedgoat · 11/03/2022 12:15

@Parpophone

Well at least one person on MN has literally got a grip today Grin

There's multiple innocent uses for Bobby pins: www.wisebread.com/30-handy-uses-for-bobby-pins

"or she's fallen down the hair grip vortex and has rematerialised under a bed 400 miles away."

Oh I hate it when that happens! It's so inconvenient.

riveted1 · 11/03/2022 12:18

I wear bobby pins most days and have to buy a new pack every couple of months as they just disappear.

Presumably they have to be ending up somewhere rather than ceasing to exist entirely, which may include random people's bedrooms.

CustardySergeant · 11/03/2022 12:18

Couldn't you have found a longer link Bromse? Wink

Lovemusic33 · 11/03/2022 12:22

6 pages of scrolling and OP hasn’t been back to explain her concerns.

Maybe she has reason to suspect her dp has been shagging other people?

Maybe the hair grip is from previous how owner…?
Maybe dp cross dresses and they came from his wig?

Mrsherdwick · 11/03/2022 12:24

Has the community midwife checked you over in your bedroom?

girlmom21 · 11/03/2022 12:27

Did you pack or unpack your bags in your bedroom? Everyone else is right - these things get anywhere. The cleaner at your hotel (or wherever you were last week) could've dropped it in your bag or in your washing pile.

Is there any other reason you're suspicious? Did he change the bedsheets? Had your shampoo been used? Were family pictures moved?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/03/2022 12:27

Was going to say Kirby grip is their proper name in England at least, but people have beaten me to it!

It could have come from anyone - former owner, anyone come to the house to do or quote for a job, visitors of a completely innocent nature. I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from this alone.

Bungalowlady · 11/03/2022 12:29

They really are pesky things that get everywhere. I volunteer at a charity shop and donated handbags are the perfect place for them to hide.

MrsWinters · 11/03/2022 12:29

Is he a burglar? Do you think he uses it to pick locks? Hmm

Thisismynamenow · 11/03/2022 12:33

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

I'm not sure I'd jump to conclusions over a Bobby pin, those things get everywhere. Come the apocalypse there'll just be them and the cockroaches left.
I've never seen a post that's so correct. Grin These things multiply like there is no tomorrow.

OP - perhaps its fallen into a bag or coat whilst at work from someone else passing by them? Or perhaps your OH used it for something random (my husbands found them handy in his RC car building)

Just raise it with your OH - it's likely to be an innocent answer. I wouldn't immediately jump to an affair or anything sinister.

I know they do blond, brown, black grey and white ones. I've never seen ginger ones though! Do they even make ginger ones?? (Entirely misses point of thread Grin)

I've never seen them, and as a redhead I feel very left out Grin
tkwal · 11/03/2022 12:39

If you can, jokingly mention it to him and observe his reaction Those things get everywhere though...if any of you wear heavy soled boots it could have hitched a ride in one of the crevices for example. Have you had anyone in measuring up for curtains/carpet? Did you bring dry cleaning in , maybe someone lost a clip in the shop? So many possible explanations don't leap to the worst possible option

NewBrownMouse · 11/03/2022 12:39

My first thought was that it has sat at the edge of the room since the previous tenants or owners left and has eventually emerged as they do get everywhere unless you laid the carpet yourself. There could be lots of explanations, my toddler came back from nursery with all sorts of slides and bobbles in her hair, she never returned with the ones she actually left the house with, it could be from there.

Well yes, that is the key thing. If I found a stray hair grip, I would be momentarily puzzled but write if off as an unexplained oddity. I wouldn't jump to DH must be having an affair, which makes me think there must be more to the story than this.
