Found a black hair grip …

Wingingthis · 11/03/2022 10:20

DH is at work, I’m in the middle of a deep clean. Whilst I was hoovering I found in the corner of the bedroom, kind of camouflaged into the carpet a black hair grip/Bobby pin whatever they’re called.
I’m blonde and have always been blonde, my kids are toddlers so do not use hair grips. No one else has been in our bedroom that would explain it.
I’ve also been away all week with the kids.

Aibu to be suspicious??? I’m also pregnant so know I don’t think rationally sometimes atm

We call them hair clips here. Had a niece stay with me years ago and she left them everywhere was gross and hair attached to them yuk. Did the op come back to give us any more updates. It could be there years if the carpet was already there and if not then how did the hair clip get there. Some of these stories soo good ..

doadeer · 11/03/2022 16:51

I honestly wouldn't even think about it.

Is there another reason you suspect your husband is having an affair?

If you're happy this isn't a normal reaction.

Parpophone · 11/03/2022 16:58

@JustAnotherSod

It wasn't an eyelash

Gardengate45 · 11/03/2022 17:02

Does your husband have long hair? Perhaps he was trying out a new style?

tinderswindler · 11/03/2022 17:07

The first clue my ex husband was having an affair was a navy blue hair tie in my bed, all mine were black or brown. I never had navy. I dismissed it but kept my eyes open, many more clues popped up. He was having an affair, she wore a lot of navy blue. It doesn't mean anything on its own but be aware.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 11/03/2022 17:10

Hello OP? any further information?

AuntyBumBum · 11/03/2022 17:12

It could belong to another woman who Darling Husband is seeing??

PiesNotGuys · 11/03/2022 17:14

I also never knew they came in different colours! Always been black here

I do not have black hair

amusedbush · 11/03/2022 17:16

@JudgeJ

I'm so glad it's not just mine! Totally disgusting.

diplop · 11/03/2022 17:19

They can hang around in washing machines for ages before (usually) getting caught in the drain pipe which prevents the machine from spinning. Could be a rogue hair pin gets released from the machine after a big wash, such as towels or sheets. If OP in a rented house, this could explain it?

BOOTS52 · 11/03/2022 17:22

Remember that other thread where the woman found something in her bed she thought was a fake eyelash but others not so sure, did we ever hear the outcome of that?

TerriblyNaice · 11/03/2022 17:24

I'm loving this thread. Perfect for a Friday afternoon 😀

OP, are you certain it isn't one of these? They're used when packaging shirts.

mediciempire · 11/03/2022 17:28

i would actually find this suspicious but it depends on how long you've been in the house and how often you clean.

saraclara · 11/03/2022 17:40

Key to this is that you were doing a DEEP clean. Unless you've lived in the house for decades (or you're one of those madwomen who deep clean every five minutes) I'd say that there are any number of reasons for its appearance.
If anyone ever has used your room (maybe just to get changed/smarten up/use your mirror) there's every chance of a kirby grip having an innocent explanation.

TheReddestJohansson · 11/03/2022 17:43

@Flyinggeese1234 I would be delighted if that were the case! But the second comment + mumsnet = f**ked if I know! Grin

I believe it was concluded to be a section of what is used for dolls’ eyelashes. Everyone appeared relieved, though frankly I thought that was far worse…Grin
girlmom21 · 11/03/2022 17:50

Does anyone know what happened with the woman who found the dodgy jogging bottoms? Did that ever get a conclusion?

JenniferWooley · 11/03/2022 18:10

@GoogleWhacked

Thanks *@Seraphina1993*. Being a redhead I never knew this!

My current hair gripe about being a redhead is that the bun rings only come in brown (too dark) & blonde (too light) versions.

As for stray kirbies there are approximately 32,684 scattered about DD's drawers & dressing table so it's possible one has thought fuck it I'm off to snuggle into OP's carpet for some peace.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 11/03/2022 18:23

I found a King Edward VII one penny coin dated 1906 at the back of our washing machine (when we were pulling it out to put the new washer in)
Our house was built in 1980 🤷‍♀️

I say time travellers

Loginmystery · 11/03/2022 18:31

They hang around for years. Sometimes decades. Along with halfpenny coins. I’m taking the flooring up and they are everywhere. Not a mystery in my case because I have two girls but I think some are prehistoric.

maddening · 11/03/2022 18:32

A- has anyone lived at the house before?

B - has anyone else eg your parents, his parents female friends or siblings been in the house of you or your dc been in the house

If so then high chance it is from something v innocent. Even if not dropped in your bedroom possible for items like that to get picked up with something and moved around the house without noticing.

It may have been deep in the carpet for ages and just worked its way up eg like Xmas tree needles that come up ages later.

Mirw · 11/03/2022 18:34

Kirby grips are used for othsmer things not just in your hair. I keep a packet in my toolkit as do my dad and brothers. Handy when measuring stuff as they don't leave mark. My dad uses them to keep his banknotes together in his pocket/wallet. I use them to keep seed packets closed. To keep wool strands together. To keep wires separate or together depending on the job.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 11/03/2022 18:39

Has someone yet told OP to..:get a grip?

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 11/03/2022 18:40

I’ve accidentally voted yanbu while trying to scroll.

In fact I think YABVU, unless there is a much wider background of reasons to suspect something.

If you have so little trust for someone that a random hairpin makes you think “infidelity”, I’d say that’s a bad sign in itself.
