To say something to nursery queue jumper....

240 replies

NoNow · 08/03/2022 21:02

Hi all!

Queue forms outside nursery gate every day. Two woman are good friends, only one of them will go to where her friend is in the queue, bypassing everyone! I think this is very rude, and it happened again today. (The other friend does not do this, even when beckoned!)
Which means she knows it's not on really....

No one else appears to be that fussed, but it bothers me because I think it's rude!

Should I say something to her?

AIBU?

@NoNow

In your case yeah I'd be irritated, I was more talking about the situation being described by @OnceuponaRainbow18 assuming she/husband was just bypassing one parent holding everyone else up with inane chatter.

If there is a queue because it does just take a minute or 2 to get the kids signed in etc jumping past it is a dickish move. The exception I would have to that would be when chatty mcchatty pants is wasting everybody's time at the start or end of the day, in that case I have no passively aggressively bypassing them and pushing kids in the door/ waving at them to come out.

@NoNow

My point is you don’t know the back story. Maybe the kids are good friends, one is anxious and they go better in with their buddy. My sister tries to time her daughter going in with a family friends kid to reduce tears.

Honestly pick your battles, these women that form little friendships can be very catty and chances are you will be seeing a lot of them over the next few years no point getting on their bad side over a nursery queue. I’m sure the staff have noticed and would be vocal if it was a true issue

NoNow · 09/03/2022 18:29

@OnceuponaRainbow18 I'm just going on the fact that this didn't happen in September / October / November / December ... so it's literally since they've become friends and started chatting. I don't think there's any SEN etc but I could be wrong, of course.

Although if it was me I'd probably say to people "my kids anxious etc do you mind if I go ahead of you?" But that's 'cos I'm not rude.

@[AUTO]9szl6l0jthb5o I see your point but I very much doubt the staff have noticed, they come out to open the gate and then disappear again to get the kids ready to come out.

I don't actually care about cattiness etc , I mostly keep to myself. I just don't like queue jumpers. Very British :)

Does the entire nursery leave at the same time? Ours has people dropping off and collecting throughout the day so there's no queue but if it is the entire group leaving together like school I'd be more annoyed with their daft system than the other parent and would suggest to nursery they send all children out and hand them over to parents in the order the child is in their queue not when the would arrives.

NoNow · 09/03/2022 18:39

@DappledThings One at a time at drop off and one at a time upon pick up. In the order the parents arrive in.

Because of the way the outside of the nursery is set up it would be too manic to send them all out at once! There isn't enough space by the door etc.

Children usually do learn selfish entitled behaviour from their parents, sadly.

TheRealistBub · 09/03/2022 19:56

My husband pushes in mainly because he has to go to work for a meeting 10 min after we can drop off at the earliest

How is that other peoples problem?

Your husband needs to have the meeting moved or explain he will be late.

Entitlement much
@MiniCooper15

Wow what a lovely person you are being aggressive about a CHILD. Hope you feel proud of yourself
I'm not insulting your toddler but you're actually setting them up for having issues in the future if you think it's acceptable to push in and disrespect others.
It's not your toddlers fault that you're failing to model good manners and kindness.

TheRealistBub · 09/03/2022 20:00

I think OnceuponaRainbow18 is a troll that needs reporting. Intentionally looking to get under peoples skin.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 09/03/2022 20:02

@TheRealistBub

I’m really not, just said what my husband does, explained why and then took offence as my kid being called a brat.
