@Anonymouslyposting

Children are dying, people don’t have basic supplies. I love my pets and animals don’t deserve to suffer in this war but giving money that could go to help innocent suffering people to animals instead is just wrong.

People are absolutely right that you can (and should) care about the suffering of animals as well as that of people. But we have finite resources and they should go to people first. I don’t know how you can look at the pictures of families fleeing under shelling with only what they can carry and think “I need to give some of my money to dogs instead”.

Are you serious?! Have you given every penny that you have, that isn't spent on essentials like food or shelter, to victims in Ukraine?

Have you 'squandered' any money on non essential clothing, footwear, beauty products, treats, trips out etc over the past couple of weeks, instead of giving it to victims in Ukraine?

If so, what on earth makes you think that you can tell others that they are 'wrong' for choosing how to spend their money?

OP could spend her money on a nice dress, or pair of shoes. Instead she wants to donate to help alleviate the suffering of animals.

Seeing some of these posts, it’s quite easy to see why some people may actually prefer animals.

oakleaffy · 06/03/2022 23:24

Look at this.... Stray animals adopted by Troops.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 06/03/2022 23:34

Happy paws and UAnimals are 2 Ukrainian charity's that are desperate for donations at the moment. Don't want to link it as Mumsnet seems to delete these posts but I found it on outward animal dot com. It's all in Ukrainian but there's a link to switch it to English too

BuyDirt · 06/03/2022 23:40

I'm sorry if you think I'm unpleasant. (I'm actually quite nice really

Based on what you’ve posted elsewhere tonight, you’re really not BIWI. But keep telling yourself that, you might convince yourself.

Indeed it is.

@BIWI

I will state why I've voted YABU as it really irks me when people don't. And I see it as cowardice.

While I think it's admirable that you're thinking about animal charities, what about all the men, women and children who need our help? Have you been donating to them too?

Thanks for saying this first. I am (also) Spartacus on this one- donate to human charities please. I have pets and I love my pets but they don’t come before humans and there are human victims of this nightmare who need your help first.

Actually, I'm going to respond to this properly, rather than just with an emoji.

I made the point, in my reply, that I was responding to a post in AIBU. Which had voting enabled.

The OP wasn't actually asking if she was being unreasonable - she was looking for information - but nevertheless she still enabled voting.

So I posted, and voted.

And I made it very clear why I had made my vote

I was also making a point that many/most posters who vote against a 'popular' post, never have the guts to say why they are posting that way. Which I did.

And I stand by my posts.

I have donated to DEC (should anyone be bothered to be vaguely interested). And I also think it's horrible what is happening to animals in Ukraine. But I would still say that I think that action for families and children takes priority.

If you don't like me on that basis - well, so be it. But you can't say I haven't been honest.

Unlike all those others who have posted that the OP is being unreasonable, which currently stands at 69%, without saying why they think that.

Gorse · 06/03/2022 23:59

Network for Animals is doing great work both on the Polish border and in Ukraine, they're desperate for pet supplies, food and money. Today they have sent a second animal ambulance out to Poland.
Four Paws are supporting zoo animals in Ukraine, have a sanctuary for rescued bears (29 bears, I think, in the war zone, staff are staying with the bears) and also picking up stray dogs and cats. Many others also, but these are the ones I personally have supported in my small way.

BIWI

You said you’re nice. Yet there’s a pregnant woman on another thread tonight, looking for help. And your response to her was to be sarcastic. Nice? I don’t think so.

BIWI · 07/03/2022 00:03

Hmm. You are aware of how many people troll MNet, aren't you?

Daisydaisydaisydaisydaisy · 07/03/2022 00:04

I don’t really see what’s so massively brave or raising a head above the parapet to just try to make people feel shit for no good reason, to be honest.

And that’s not me trying to be an arse either. I’m not seeing the brave selflessness you clearly are.

BuyDirt · 07/03/2022 00:04

YAC....👍

Sarah13xx · 07/03/2022 00:05

Underdog international seems to be a good one to follow on Instagram, lots of updates on how they’re helping so they seem genuine

Want2beme · 07/03/2022 00:05

I've donated to Love Furry Friends. She is in Ukraine and is staying put to continue rescuing animals that have been left behind.

I have no interest in making anyone feel shit.

And no 'brave selflessness' here.

Hmm
Daisydaisydaisydaisydaisy · 07/03/2022 00:08

But you have posted more than once to state that you have not been a coward, that you have been the one to post that the OP is being unreasonable and that this is a good thing, ergo, you are a brave internet warrior, sharing your opinion Hmm

Incidentally if you thought the other thread was a troll it should have been reported, not responded to with blistering sarcasm.

Zwellers · 07/03/2022 00:09

Seriously!

WellNotReally · 07/03/2022 00:12

Thanks for starting this thread OP, I'd also like to know. And ignore all all the fake 'but it's AIBU' naiveté.

Oh stop it. I've just posted in my own defence. How many others have posted this evening whose views contradict the OP? I suspect very few.

Would you rather I just added an anonymous vote?

And I have, of course, reported the other thread. As well as posting on The Night Watch. I hope that meets with your approval?

Not really your business where people are donating. Every life matters and the op is asking about animals in this thread. As you like humans so much why don’t you stop annoying them?.
whumpthereitis · 07/03/2022 00:18

Does it really need to be said on a thread asking for charity recommendations? She wasn't asking for opinions as to whether you approve or not (frankly, and thankfully, I think she doesn’t care tbh). If so, is it also okay for people to come along on threads asking about human charities and campaign of animal ones instead? I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen someone do that, yet apparently it’s okay to come along and pour negativity on someone trying to help. She’s doing some good, whereas you’re bitching and moaning about it on mumsnet.

By all means you decide where your money goes, but you don’t get to decide for anyone else.

BIWI · 07/03/2022 00:18

Ha ha! Very good @curlymom

BIWI · 07/03/2022 00:21

She wasn't asking for opinions

This was posted in AIBU, with voting enabled, so yes it was very much asking for opinions!

I'm sorry if you don't like them being expressed. And of course I haven't decided where anyone wants their money to go to!
