Thanks for saying this first. I am (also) Spartacus on this one- donate to human charities please. I have pets and I love my pets but they don’t come before humans and there are human victims of this nightmare who need your help first.

I will donate my own money where I want, not where someone on MN thinks I should.

I'm waiting for Nowzad to announce their plans and I will probably donate them. I donate to Nowzad every month anyway so it makes sense.

BuyDirt · 07/03/2022 11:40

It’s people and animals. I have never seen anyone saying animals before people. I have seen people trying to twist things and pretend this is what is being said.

As always, mumsnet, like wider society like to cause division where it isn’t needed. They argue for their side, whilst others are suffering. Your arguments do not help.

People AND animals.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/03/2022 11:45

Exactly @BuyDirt. I've already donated to DEC and I will donate to Nowzad once I know what their plans are, it's possible for most people to care about both

WellNotReally · 07/03/2022 11:50

@Whatsonmymindgrapes

You understand children are dying don’t you?
Why on earth post on a thread asking about animal charities to tell us that children are dying? Did you think people weren't aware of that tragic fact?
musicforthesoul · 07/03/2022 12:14

Warpaws have posted links on their fb to animal charities that are helping in ukraine, I suspect they'll have a fundraiser of their own up and running soon as well.

Nowzad are likely another good bet after they say what they're planning tonight.

If you're on twitter have a look at @kinga_valentino. The pinned tweet at the top has a big list of rescues in ukraine

I have just donated here

networkforanimals.org/news/

They have just purchased a ambulance and now have 2 they are using to drive around the Ukraine into the animal rescue places delivering food / supplies etc and driving back out to the Polish border with rescues Dogs, Cats etc

Apparently its a non-stop operation

Parker231 · 07/03/2022 12:22

This is why I donated to animal charities in Ukraine - this man is not leaving his pet - it may be all he has.

LoveLabradors · 07/03/2022 12:37

@Parker231. I hope that man and his his little cat reach safety. Yes for many people their pets are all they have and are truly their family. I have been thinking so much about the elderly in the Ukraine, how vulnerable they are and also particularly for the very oldest, the fact that they will have seen the famine, WW2 and the worst of the soviet years, only to endure this now. It’s utterly terrible.
@Vodkaskirts thanks so much for posting that link, sounds like vital work and exceptionally brave people doing it.

Migrainesbythedozen · 07/03/2022 12:37

I wouldn't donate to PETA, they kill animals rather than re-home them. I am so happy to she someone mention animals; they are helpless and cannot speak, they are the forgotten victims in wars. I do feel more for the animals than I do humans.

JunkIsland · 07/03/2022 12:39

Of course you can donate to both - but by doing so you are taking some of your donation away from people and giving it to animals.

Not in my case. I’ve donated an amount I’m comfortable with to humanitarian aid. It was in no way affected by donations I might or might not make to other causes.

Thanks for the thread, op. Some very useful information in here.

Migrainesbythedozen · 07/03/2022 12:44

One of the most moving things I saw on tv on the coverage of Ukraine were people crossing the border with cats in cat carriers. It really brings the reality of it home when you see that.

XenoBitch · 07/03/2022 12:50

Donating to an animal charity does not take anything away from charities helping people.

I donated to IFAW too x

Onlyhuman123 · 07/03/2022 13:54
**@PotteringAlong* @BIWI* donation police are out in force I see.

 1. Nowhere has the OP said she hasn’t donated to human beings.
 1. You can care for both.
 1. It’s none of anyone’s business what people do with their own money so get off your high horses Hmm
^this!!!

none of anyone else's business what charity you choose to support; whether that be for humans or animals. jesus christ!

Onlyhuman123 · 07/03/2022 13:59

@Vodkaskirts thank you for the link.

NobbyButtons · 07/03/2022 14:33

The Ukrainian Equestrian Federation are asking for donations as some stables in Ukraine only have a week's food left.

FredWinnie · 07/03/2022 14:33

Thanks for the links.
I'll be donating to an animal one too

ClemFandangoo · 07/03/2022 15:16

To be honest this thread shouldn’t really be in AIBU, because there’s no reason it should be up for debate. It should be a thread where people can post links and information and if people want to donate to any animals charities they know where to look and those that don’t want to can just …we’ll, not click on the thread.

All being in AIBU does is just attract people who need to get a bit of whatsboutism off their chests… ‘but what about the humans?’ Then it becomes like the Ricky Gervais sketch where someone sees a sign up for guitar lessons and says ‘but I don’t want guitar lessons!’

ChrisSays · 07/03/2022 15:18

Just donated to this because of posters on this thread telling me what to do with my own money. You can bet your life that those sanctimonious lecturers haven’t donated a pound to any charity. It’s possible to care about humans and animals and yes to those animals being important to the Ukrainian people. Patronising westerners telling otherwise though Hmm

I watched a video of someone having to let their horses free in to the wild as it was their best chance of surviving . The horses were terrified of the bombing and one bolted in fright from the noise while they were leading them to the forest to release, and was galloping around the town while it was in the midst of an attack. Imagine having to just set your beloved animals free like that and leave, just hoping they'll be able to fend for themselves 😞. I'm sure others will be able to give more specific advice but I will say please don't touch peta with a barge pole

I saw some being set free with foals at foot, absolutely terrified and panicking. The owner was heartbroken. Poland are doing a fantastic job in getting animal feed together.
liveforsummer · 07/03/2022 15:31

@BuyDirt

I believe you can donate to support ukraines zoos. i can't post a link or i think it'll get deleted. Kyiv zoo have not been able to evacuate any of the animals the zoo keepers are staying with them and trying to keep them safe.

It’s so sad. I saw a post where a small monkey had died in a Ukraine zoo from the fear of an explosion. I’m sure many other animals have too. The workers are amazing.

I hope they can continue to get food for those animals. Brave keepers!
