Such sad pictures coming out of Ukraine.

Which Ukrainian animal charities should I donate to please?
Xpologog · 07/03/2022 16:00

If anyone would like to donate by clicks ( no cash needed) to www.animalwebaction.com/en/?utm_source=rappel-du-06032022&utm_medium=email&utm_content=clic_global&utm_campaign=rappel
They donate food and blankets to animals shelters across Europe and sometimes North Africa. Sign up to their daily reminder and you can click through up to 5 times a day.

when a poster will comment that there are children dying ... as if you are unaware of that purely because you want to help animals in need too ... and they are in need
The Ukrainians themselves are wanting to save their animals too ,
You can help animals and humans you know , you're not a bad person for wanting to help a defenceless animal/ animals

foxlover47 · 07/03/2022 16:06

And thank you for all the useful links posted so far

Snooks1971 · 07/03/2022 20:04

Just wanted to say thank you so much to the helpful posters who have posted links and suggestions as to how to offer help to animals (and their distraught owners) caught up in this war.

I’m not going to feed the “debate” in this post, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the advice and it’s heartening to know that other people feel the same as me.

OP this is a very useful thread for clear specific directions.

I can't help myself, to those posters who question the usefulness of wanting to help the animals in this crisis:
it is not only about pets, abandoned animals, stray animals, zoos. It is also about farm animals. A self sufficient small-hold, a farm, these are people's livelihoods, it's part of their lives. They care about their animals and birds. If they cannot abandon them, they also need to feed them and under the current circumstances their animal feed runs out or can get destroyed.
And to not care about animals (domestic or wild) it's simply shameful. I am surprised how matter of fact some posters have been about this.

Branster, you’ve put it much more succinctly and eloquently than I have. Yes, that’s it. It’s not just about the animals, these are people who HAVE beloved animals and who care about them.

We all imagine ourselves in the situation, the “what if” and what would I do if this happened to my family.

I know 100% that if me and my family had to just uproot and leave our home, my kids would be even more traumatised leaving their pets. It would make a barbaric situation even more barbaric.

Good point about animals being some people livelihood. Not something I'd even considered as was completely in support of OP. I know Ukraine is prime gaming country responsible for much of the western worlds grain, potatoes. Oil etc but I imagine lots of animal farming too

Snooks1971 · 07/03/2022 21:55

@liveforsummer yes, me too.

Good god to the absolute arseholes on here having a go at people wanting to help the animals.

I've donated to DEC and the Red Cross and now want to turn my attention to the animal charities but not sure which is the best one. Not sure 11 pages in that I'm any the wiser tbh. Holding out for Nowzad?

@Snooks1971

Right. Ffs. Just asked for links to credible charities who can help.

Thanks to everyone who has, I am extremely grateful.

I know AIBU is a dog on dog (oh the irony) minefield but I was doing the usual posting for traffic.

Thank you so much to all the advice and will leave the squiffy squalling to the others.

Peace and love, as they say x

This thread has reminded me of a serious thread I started on a different forum a couple of years ago about services in a war zone.

OP, do you wonder, as I did, why can't so many people read the opening post carefully and thoroughly and why can't theh contribute to the discussion sincerely or answer questions asked? If they can't do this, why not just watch and learn instead of giving 'clever answers' or being cocky?

I asked if anyone knew how I could a) send equipment for blind people as their normal sources of help had disappeared overnight (including help with guide dogs and their white canes) and b) did anyone know of any charities that enabled blind and visually impaired citizens find information on safe haven or safe passage for refugee status.

The responses were embarassing; I was asked why I thought there would be blind people living there (??!); why did I think I was clever enough to think I knew how a blind person might feel and did I really think blind people would be bothered about dogs and white canes whilst their country was bein bombed? Well, yes, these were even more vital at that time!!

Oh, I was also 'told off' by a few people asking why I thought guide dogs were more needed to be saved, what about the mongrels and strays, didn't they deserve rescuing too?

TILFA · 08/03/2022 01:27

Sorry
, I didn't mean that to be so long; also, I wasn't making it about me - I was trying to relate to the op and the type of unhelpful answers she's had, but now realised, my answer is even more unhelpful, I'm really sorry.

@Anonymouslyposting

Children are dying, people don’t have basic supplies. I love my pets and animals don’t deserve to suffer in this war but giving money that could go to help innocent suffering people to animals instead is just wrong.

People are absolutely right that you can (and should) care about the suffering of animals as well as that of people. But we have finite resources and they should go to people first. I don’t know how you can look at the pictures of families fleeing under shelling with only what they can carry and think “I need to give some of my money to dogs instead”.

But where do you draw the line? Should we always give money to charities that help people rather than animals?

Even in the UK there are people with serious illnesses, suffering domestic abuse, very sick children etc. Should we only donate to charities that help them?

Me and DH give money to charities every month, a mixture of human and animal but more animal than human. Our wills leave the whole of the money from the sale of our house to animal charities. Is that wrong?

Honeyroar · 08/03/2022 17:34

This post from Facebook says it all. Lots of people want and need help with their animals too.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/03/2022 18:56

No it isn't, I will donate my money where I choose. Have you noticed how many of the people are fleeing with their animals.

Snooks1971 · 08/03/2022 19:30

@TILFA please don’t apologise. I’m terrified of posting in AIBU for these very reasons but you know what, I don’t GAF when I’m asking a question about the safety of animals.

I said in an early post that I didn’t mean to enable voting and just wanted advice (but some pp chose to ignore that and thrust their opinions on me anyway) big fat shrug

Thanks to all for the links and heads ups (sorry not a real phrase!)

whumpthereitis · 08/03/2022 20:36

You can be sure that donations to animal charities are absolutely being appreciated by the people on the ground there. Those who have fled with their pets, and those who are staying to care for animals. It’s not like the money given doesn’t have a direct impact on people too.

I have family in Ukraine. I myself was born in the former Yugoslavia and spent a good portion of my childhood there. As such, I’m not unfamiliar with the inside of bomb shelters. You know what we took with us down there? Our pets. Animals can be a huge source of comfort in the face of sheer terror. They also don’t cause wars yet they suffer in them too. They’re not unworthy of help.

Snooks1971 · 08/03/2022 22:20

@whumpthereitis I’ve seen all of your posts, you are very gracious in the face of some pp!

I truly hope that your family are ok Flowers

I've been thinking about the horses and other larger animals being left. It's so awful.

I found this one, if you're still looking. mobile.twitter.com/Network4Animals
