@Kittenwhiskers6

I've donated to www.four-paws.org.uk/ They have a stray animal care team who have stayed in the country. I've also donated to UNICEF. It is possible to care about the animals as well as the people!
Yes exactly! (Hands in air emoji)

@ScribblingPixie

I used to work for a charity that helped women who wouldn't leave a violent relationship without securing their pets' safety first. Does it occur to people criticising that by giving passage to pets - as Poland have done - or helping those left behind you enable more people to flee the war zone?
I think a few people on here were in far too much of a rush to bash and berate the OP for having the temerity to care for animals, to even THINK of that. They just HAD to tell the OP that caring about animals obviously means she doesn't give a shit about humans. FFS this place sometimes! Hmm

@LoveLabradors

What do you do to help alleviate suffering in this world *@PotteringAlong*? I’m intrigued to know, it must be enormous if you are able to police what others do.
Exactly. People are giving because they want to alleviate suffering. People are giving their own money to help. I bet people criticising others for giving their own money to charity they don’t approve of don’t bat an eyelid when they spend money on luxuries like holidays and new cars. I’m giving mostly to Red Cross but have slipped a little to a local animal rescue too. I’d like to know who to give to. I’ve also written to my MP about the crazy visa rules in the UK. People just want to help.

@BIWI

Ermm this wasn’t a debate? I wasn’t asking for your opinion (which I may or may not agree with, who knows??) My OP was asking for animal charities to donate to

But, @Snooks1971 you posted this in AIBU! So how were you not asking for an opinion?

That's exactly why I responded as I did.

Oh fgs you have been here long enough - as have I - to know that AIBU is often used for traffic. Often patrolled by posters spoiling for a fight instead.

Semantics. I asked for advice.

To the people who are anti this - if it’s not your money, it’s not your business. You can dislike it all you like, but no one else is obliged to give a fuck. Not every opinion is so important that it’s vital to be shared.

For OP^

Daisydaisydaisydaisydaisy · 06/03/2022 21:58

I agree AIBU isn’t the best place but I also do think that most of us know AIBU is used for traffic as well as for debate.

Donating to a childrens charity doesn’t mean you don’t care about adults.

Donating to a charity for mental health doesn’t mean you don’t care about cancer.

Donating to a charity supporting women doesn’t mean you don’t care about men.

Donations to charity are very personal. If I choose to support babies it doesn’t mean I don’t care about the elderly. It is extremely unreasonable to tell people a charitable donation is wrong, unless the charity itself is in some way corrupt.

BIWI · 06/03/2022 22:00

Posting in AIBU 'for the traffic' only perpetuates the issue.

Did you really think that there wouldn't be enough people interested in donating to animal charities for Ukraine?

It's not semantics at all.

Daisydaisydaisydaisydaisy · 06/03/2022 22:02

report it and get it moved then Biwi, it’s really not a big deal.

Well said. Some people have been so rude.
BuyDirt · 06/03/2022 22:03

IFAW are a good choice I think. And hopefully the involvement of NOWZAD will really help raise awareness, I’ve supported them for years, they do great work.

How awful that some posters would try to stop people donating to help animals. Anyone that tries to tell me to not give to animal charities can fuck off. Wink

Wentyworthy · 06/03/2022 22:04

Well the fact that you are saying “help people” shows why people like OP (and me!) are needed to help the victims who can’t speak, can’t escape and are most vulnerable.

whumpthereitis · 06/03/2022 22:04

It’s inflicting no harm though, is it? It’s not taking up space that would otherwise be used for something else, and it’s bringing the issue to the attention of the increased number of people who use this particular board.

In regards to your distaste, you of course have the option is not clicking on the thread. It’s OP’s money and OP’s business, it’s got absolutely zero to do with you.

Wentyworthy · 06/03/2022 22:06

Animals don’t start wars - my heart breaks for the pets, animals in zoos, sanctuaries and horrid road side cages and circuses whose lives are being made even worse because of all this bullshit.

Bluebellberry · 06/03/2022 22:07

Following with interest op, I’d love to know. Well done for the thread.

Oh and caring about animals is not caring about humans is it?
How about guide dogs, therapy animals and the fact some peoples only family might be their pets? Millions of animal lovers see their pets as part of the family so they are just as important, they last thing the need is too see their pets suffering or worse right now.

twominutesmore · 06/03/2022 22:07

Well I feel the thread was always going to be contentious, particularly for those of us with family in Ukraine.

You can donate your own money to whoever you like but it does feel like a tone deaf question in the circumstances. Personally I'd have just googled it.

BIWI · 06/03/2022 22:12

Look, @Snooks1971, you started a thread in AIBU and you enabled voting.

I voted, and then stuck my head above the parapet to tell you why I'd voted that I thought YWBU.

Most people don't do that and I think that's a coward's way of voting

Unlike many other posters, I have given you my point of view. I think what's happening in Ukraine - to animals as well as humans - is beyond atrocious. But I still think that the human cost is much worse than that of animals.

That said, it doesn't have to mean that we can't donate to animal charities as well as human ones, and I never said that that was the case.

BuyDirt · 06/03/2022 22:15

You can donate your own money to whoever you like but it does feel like a tone deaf question in the circumstances. Personally I'd have just googled it.

If you have family there, I truly hope they are ok.

But to say that people shouldn’t post is wrong. Should women not post a pregnancy question because some women have trouble conceiving, should someone not post to ask about where to buy a house because some people can’t afford to buy a house? It’s ridiculous.

I’ve had times in my life where things have been so awful that I’ve wanted the world to stop. But it doesn’t.

And animals matter too.

LoveLabradors · 06/03/2022 22:16

People are trying to flee with their pets. People are risking their lives staying behind to care for their animals. People are risking their lives to care for animals in sanctuaries. That tells us how important they are to many traumatised Ukrainians and why it’s important to help them. It’s not remotely tone deaf. Again it’s possible to care for both.

Snooks1971 · 06/03/2022 22:16

Please show me your Google results @twominutesmore. I googled and was clueless as to the most effective use of my donation unfortunately. Hence me asking here? As pp have said, it isn’t tone deaf to ignore animals or pets. You obviously have family in the Ukraine. Christ. I can’t imagine, it’s horrific. I hope your family are ok, I really do.

I’ve never posted on aibu before but frankly can see why it’s best avoided. It brings out some particularly unpleasant people sadly.

@LoveLabradors I know. Scary.

UthredofBattenberg · 06/03/2022 22:21

Have a look at Luckys legacy rescue. They are based in eastern Europe, mostly Romania and Poland, but they are fundraising to get help for Ukrainian pets coming over to those countries with refugees

Bluebellberry · 06/03/2022 22:23

Ukrainians fleeing with their pets. I’m pretty sure they’d all be very grateful for food, bedding, medicine etc for their loved ones

Which Ukrainian animal charities should I donate to please?
Snooks1971 · 06/03/2022 22:24

I really should know better by now.

Anyway if some Animal Rescues get some dosh I’m happy. I never wanted to start a bloody argument.

Newuname199987 · 06/03/2022 22:25

Recent tv footage has shown a lot of people fleeing with a bag of belongings plus a pet so they obviously care very deeply about their animals and don’t want to leave their animals behind, so I hope there is support and care for all families and their animals when they reach a place of safety. As has been said before the two aren’t mutually exclusive. If people are carrying a pet, and I’ve seen footage of people running carrying large animals, then they have prioritised that animal over more belongings that could have been carried so I’m sure if they then receive care for both themselves and their animal they will be thankful.
