@BIWI

She wasn't asking for opinions

This was posted in AIBU, with voting enabled, so yes it was very much asking for opinions!

I'm sorry if you don't like them being expressed. And of course I haven't decided where anyone wants their money to go to!

She was quite explicitly asking for recommendations, not opinions. You are of course free to express yours, but why you think anyone needs to hear it, or cares, is beyond me.
ThinWomansBrain · 07/03/2022 00:36

I've spent quite some time this evening looking for UK charities with ukraine appeals.
sadly many of them have flashy "donate to ukraine" webpages, but when you look at the small print, the requested donations aren't going to a restrictedfund guaranteed to go to Ukraine, but just into unrestricted funds to support anything they do.
International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)is a prime example - v frustrating.
Will spend some more time on it tomorrow & post if I find something.

Daisydaisydaisydaisydaisy · 07/03/2022 00:39

Would you rather I just added an anonymous vote

Obviously, that would have been better.

Chocolattay · 07/03/2022 00:42

@BIWI

Get a fucking grip.

Chocolattay · 07/03/2022 00:44

Have you donated to a human charity BIWI? Even if you have, it’s beyond me that you’d spend the money donating to a charity from the comfort of you own home.

You could have spent that money on travelling to Ukraine to fight.

Your logic is ridiculous, this is how ridiculous you sound.

Chocolattay · 07/03/2022 00:47

Donating to animal charities will help the staff/volunteers of the charity anyway.

kylie127 · 07/03/2022 00:55

I feel animals are just as important I don't care what anyone says that's my views !! Only animal lovers donate to animal charity so they get less charity than the human one

Yes I have. I donated £50 to DEC
Chocolattay · 07/03/2022 01:07

Why didn’t you spend that on a plane ticket to Poland so you could enter Ukraine and help the babies personally?

BuffaloPickle · 07/03/2022 01:10

Animals are innocent. Human-centric people should know that animals are necessary for our ecosystem, which means that, without them we will die. If that's what it takes for some to understand that animals need help too..

Chocolattay · 07/03/2022 01:16

I absolutely am not of the opinion animals should come before humans. I’d always save a child over 10 animals if it came to it.

But this isn’t one of those situations. A child isn’t going to die in Ukraine purely because OP donated her £30 to an animal charity instead of Save The Children Hmm There’s a lot more to it than that.

Let’s not shame people for doing good things

Furries · 07/03/2022 01:24

I hate the way these threads always go. It’s possible to care for/donate re both humans and animals.

In amongst the horror of news footage we’ve seen, the number of people with their cats and dogs has been a small insight as to the very few things they want to take with them when they flee. And, I’m sure, many people will not have been able to immediately locate/take their pets.

The OP did nothing wrong with asking the question.

Personally I’d suggest that, in future, anyone wanting to ask about where to make donations to animal charities would be best to do so in both the Doghouse and the Litter Tray boards. AIBU is always going to attract people who want to point out how vile you are for thinking about animals.

ilovesooty · 07/03/2022 01:27

@BuyDirt

Seeing some of these posts, it’s quite easy to see why some people may actually prefer animals.
Too right.

Don't be stupid
BIWI · 07/03/2022 01:41

@Furries

The OP did nothing wrong with asking the question

Nobody said she did anything wrong with the question.

But she did ask the question, in AIBU, and I answered it. I'm by no means the only poster who thinks she is being unreasonable - just look at the vote! - but I am pretty much the only one who is prepared to stand up and say why I have voted as I have.

Perhaps the vilification should be aimed at all those who haven't been prepared to say why they voted as they have?

The people who have voted and not commented are at least not consistently derailing from the original point, and nor are they blatantly attention seeking.

I’m not going to feed you anymore, but rest assured you don’t look ‘brave’ for giving your opinion (congratulations, you have one! As the old saying goes, opinions are like assholes. We all have one, but much like assholes, you don’t always have to share it in public), you just look like a twat.

BIWI · 07/03/2022 01:51

Thank you @whumpthereitis. And there I was just thinking I was defending my POV. Hmm

Daisydaisydaisydaisydaisy · 07/03/2022 01:54

Tbh Biwi I agree with @whumpthereitis. It does smack of attention seeking, especially since for some reason you’re bizarrely proud of having shared this view.

It’s like people who think they ‘say it as they see it’ but are actually just bloody rude.

Chocolattay · 07/03/2022 01:57

@BIWI

There’s only one person coming across stupid here, at the very least you are coming across as dense.

You are smug and are expressing a nasty, illogical viewpoint. I’m pointing out the ridiculousness of it.

You have pets, why didn’t you take in foster children instead?

Chocolattay · 07/03/2022 01:59

The money you spend on cat/dog food for your pets could have be donated to your local children’s charity, surely? You must hate people @BIWI

BIWI · 07/03/2022 02:01

I'm not proud. I'm just dogged, if you like.
I'm not stupid.
I'm not dense.
I'm not smug.
And I'm certainly not expressing a 'nasty, illogical viewpoint' - where the fuck do you get that from?!

I responded to the OP's question about being unreasonable, and justified my response.

That seems to have provoked quite a ridiculous response.

Anyway, I'm off to bed now.

You can all carry on your frothing without me.

Erm, I didn’t single you out, not sure why you’re replying so vehemently to a general observation.

Six pages in, I think we get it - you stand by your decision to outline your view re your vote.

I stand by the view of others that it’s ok to donate to both humans and animals. Am sure that most on this site have donated in some way re the former. And that some will also donate re the latter.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

SirenSays · 07/03/2022 02:38

Thank you for looking out for the animals OP

Boxowine · 07/03/2022 03:21

There is nothing wrong with wishing to do something that might help the animals and those caring for them. In times of catastrophe, a universal approach with multiple levels of assistance should be the goal. Yes, we do prioritize as much as possible but even then it is not always a one thing or the other situation. Many of these animals will not get out. So they will need to be fed. And may God and St Francis keep over the terribly brave souls who will be doing this.

LadyPenelope68 · 07/03/2022 03:25

All that’s happening to the women, children and men in the Ukraine and you want to donate to animal charities?? Sorry, I think that’s absolutely bizarre.
