I am thinking of starting a collection.

But what of ? If you have a collection you are proud of, can I ask what it is ?

Thimbles
Harder and harder to buy not at one time all touristy places sold them as a momento.

@Nothavingfunrightnow

I collect Christmas decorations from places I've been. I buy them when I'm at the place rather than online. It started by accident. I LOVE my decorations and my Xmas tree 😁
We do this too Smile it reminds us of our trips over the years at Christmas
Everley · 07/03/2022 18:33

Coins, sea glass & sherds of pottery. And Pokémon 😂

mysunandstars · 07/03/2022 18:33

Sea glass also! The most relaxing way to spend a couple of hours.

SuperSocks · 07/03/2022 18:37

@Goldfishmountainclimber

I am absolutely out of the mindset of collecting anything these days. I am all about declutter, declutter, declutter! We need to make our London house work for children getting bigger. I have read Marie Kondo, watched The Minimalists, thought about the environment and attempt some sort of spin on this amongst the real life situation of Lego and the washing.

Do you need to collect?

You are a collector! You just collect space! It's quite addictive isn't it!
@Hawkins001 - DH & DS play MTG. It's an expensive hobby!
Just a bit, I got into it from some friends but then to build my decks I brought via joblots of commons and uncommons from ebay, otherwise if I was paying full ££ it would cost a lot more, for the latest sets it's waiting until people auction the new ones, a few occasions I've brought singles from the main ebay sellers to help with my decks.

I like, spiders, sproallings, vehicles, pirates, wurms, dragons, insects, treefolk, snakes, homunculus, skeletons, thropters, servos, faries, various sea creatures.

Overall it's very creative when deck making, problem is I start to build a deck get a new deck idea ect, mostly I play vintage format with around 60-80 card decks. I'm not too fussed with the commander format, mainly due to the extra rules. But their are some good commander decks.

Overall it's a good hobby, but yes can be quite £. But at the same time, a game that can last years of entertainment and intrigue.

Geppili · 07/03/2022 18:51

AiryFairyLights · 07/03/2022 18:54
@AiryFairyLights I have all the J D Robb in death series in hardback even though I also have them all on my iPad too.
I’ve a few jd robb but not many - I’ve promised myself I’ll get more of those after I finish getting the ones in her own name first 😉

UnreasonabIe · 07/03/2022 19:02

Antiques but from a specific location, mainly antique books from this location.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 07/03/2022 19:34

I've got quite a collection of small succulents and cacti in unique little pots!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 07/03/2022 19:35

And sea glass.

LazyDoll · 07/03/2022 19:39

Sea glass and cowrie shells.

mysweetlemonpie · 07/03/2022 19:40

I can't imagine deliberately going out of my way to collect things unless there was already a passion/interest.

What a waste of time/money/effort/space/resources!
(Not genuine collectors - you guys knock yourself out)

iklboo · 07/03/2022 19:40

@Hawkins001 - DH & DS use either "the magic card trader" or "axionnow" for buying their cards. Really quick delivery (sorry for minor derail).

CuriousMariette · 07/03/2022 19:42

@CheekySwifter
Off topic but have you been to The Teapot Museum on Teapot Island in Kent - 7,500 different teapots! Disappointing cup of tea in the cafe though

Mollyplop999 · 07/03/2022 19:49

My husband collects old tins and signs. Automobilia is really popular now.
I try not to, but I collect vintage China.

ThisBloodyNoiseInMyHead · 07/03/2022 19:52

Cat-themed knick-knacks. Not because I wanted/intended to collect them, but family and friends always get me Cat things because I love cats and have always had at least one, at times 2 or 3. I've got:

wall-hanging sign things, ornaments, pictures, cushions, a calendar, notebook, pinboard, diary, teatowels, 4 lots of cat-themed bedding, pyjamas (4 pairs), socks, storage jars, oven gloves, a teapot, tumblers, mugs......what will I get next, I wonder? Mother's Day then my birthday.

DontbesuchanarseGlenda · 07/03/2022 19:56

@MinglingFlamingo

Thimbles Harder and harder to buy not at one time all touristy places sold them as a momento.
Yes. Thimbles clearly aren't as popular as they used to be and I can't always find one when we go away now. As others have said, I don't mention it much because they record where we've been, I don't want other people adding to my collection!
bruffin · 07/03/2022 20:01

I forgot little cats, fridge magnets and elephants
