I am thinking of starting a collection.

But what of ? If you have a collection you are proud of, can I ask what it is ?

I’ve started buying and re-reading books I read in my teens and 20’s, like Twopence to Cross The Mersey and The She’ll Seekers. I prefer buying older books with the same front cover that I remember.

GeneLovesJezebel · 06/03/2022 21:29

And I collect vinyl from my favourite band,

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 06/03/2022 21:30

Beswick China animals - only from charity shops.

iklboo · 06/03/2022 21:30

@GeneLovesJezebel - my mum loved Twopence To Cross The Mersey books.

dudsville · 06/03/2022 21:32

I've never had a hobby that included collecting things, and I do struggle to understand it, but I get the point of it being nice being with the things that interest you.

Evanesco · 06/03/2022 21:33

We started to collect fridge magnets from everywhere we went on holiday. The in laws noticed and started buying us magnets every time they went on holiday, but we didn't have the heart to tell them that amassing as many as possible wasn't the point...

Another Emma Bridgewater collector here.

I can remember a few years ago buying my first dresser. I fibbed slightly and told dh I’d get all my collection on there.

When it got to the point that I could have filled it literally five times over with different collections I started to sell a few bits.

I’ve now got two collections out, one on the dresser in the dining room and one in the kitchen, and a Christmas collection. It all gets swapped over and properly cleaned in about November and again in about February.

I like looking at it and faffing with it. It’s pretty and it makes me happy. And I’m not precious about it, I use lots of it too. I currently have 38 teapots on rotation. 🙈

Wool...
lots and lots of wool. Tbf I rarely have to go and buy new as I'll normally have something I can use for whatever I'm attempting to crochet (I say that cos I'm by no means a pro !)

Anywhooooo I have a whole kalax unit full of the stuff 🧶

Davros · 06/03/2022 21:37

My mum introduced me to them too.

PositiveLife · 06/03/2022 21:41

Old books - mostly climbing/caving/mountaineering
Sea glass - but only stuff collected by ourselves or given by friends who have collected it
As I do more walking I'm building up a collection of maps too

Lazypanda1 · 06/03/2022 21:53

I collect squashed pennies, sea glass and pin badges.

OneTC · 06/03/2022 21:54

It is a forbidden activity (self imposed)

Wartywart · 06/03/2022 21:57

@Nanalisa60 Your living room sounds lovely! 😀

SommerTen · 07/03/2022 12:34

New, vintage and antique books on Ww2, ww1, costume & nature.

Goebel, Szeiler & Philip Laureston cats & other animals, also some Royal Crown Derby, Royal Doulton & Beswick.

Trinket boxes.

Original antique Photographs - Victorian & Edwardian; Ww2 & ww1 British, German & Russian.

I love collecting these items but it's also good to know I've got stuff to sell if necessary.

Chely · 07/03/2022 12:40

I used to collect porcelain dolls as a child, only got a couple left now though. My room had shelves full of them on display, like you see in the phsycos room in a horror.
Got a few collectors coins. I have huge boxes of childrens clothes I can not part with if that counts.

hulahoopqueen · 07/03/2022 12:40

Oshkosh dungarees, it's a collection in its infancy but I enjoy it so much!

littlemissgrumpi · 07/03/2022 13:38

Fridge magnets from everywhere we travel!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/03/2022 13:42

I collect cat ornaments - well, that's my official collection.

But looking round the house, I clearly also collect books, yarn, fabric and other craft supplies. I belong to the school of thought that says buying the supplies for a craft activity, and actually doing the activity, are two entirely separate hobbies! Blush

MintyFreshBreath · 07/03/2022 13:44

I haven’t added to it in a while but badges. I’d forgotten about it but when my sister was going through her Emo stage in the early 2000s she found my collection and loved all the original 80/90s badges 😂 Still love a good badge 😆

OldPodge · 07/03/2022 13:44

Cacti and succulents. Recently got a couple of poorly orchids am hoping to save

nokidshere · 07/03/2022 13:50

Clocks.

I love them ❤️ I've been paring them down a bit over the past few years because although I love clocks I hate clutter and DH hates the ticking. I currently have about 50 and spend lots of time looking for, or at, clocks online.

greenpolkadot55 · 07/03/2022 13:51
