I am thinking of starting a collection.

But what of ? If you have a collection you are proud of, can I ask what it is ?

OP posts:

Anything with pineapples, except I don't like writing on stuff or those pineapples with sunglasses prints etc.

Antique jelly moulds. Especially pineapple shaped.

chocolatecheesecake · 07/03/2022 13:58

I try and get a Christmas decoration from every country I visit.

Vintage china and (related to that) dust

blacksax · 07/03/2022 14:23

YABU to ask a question like this and not bother coming back to the thread again. Hmm

SquishySquirmy · 07/03/2022 14:38

Seaglass (like a lot of others on here!)
Seeds (not intentionally, I just keep buying them).
Interesting 50p and £1 coins (haphazardly).
Dying houseplants.

@Itwasntmeright

I collect Records. I’ve got all sorts but I particularly collect early and first press Beatles records. It’s quite a costly hobby.
Amazed that it’s costly. I have most of the early Beatles ones, bought as they were released. Happen I should sell them & buy a yacht Grin

Ah, yarn. Quite agree that buying it & using it are two completely different hobbies Blush
And teddy bears which I blame on always longing for one but never having had one as a child. I try to stick to antique ones but I’m a soft touch for any poor soul languishing in a charity shop looking for a home.

VelvetChairGirl · 07/03/2022 15:02

I collect RDJ related stuff (iron man stuff, DVD collection etc).

Gundam model kits.

lucky cats.

video games mainly handheld ones.

X-shot guns seemingly I have acquired 3 since christmas Hmm

GrolliffetheDragon · 07/03/2022 15:54

Mainly books. But there are various collections, mainly of found things like feathers, pebbles (holey ones are best), leaves, shells, fossils, sea glass, pinecones, conkers etc. I've always picked things like that up since I was a child, and DS takes after me. I do clear bits out occasionally and just keep the nicest. Have a basket of razor clam shells, a bowl full of conkers and a pile of seagull feathers from last year that need sorting.

yellowsmileyface · 07/03/2022 15:58

Books and flags.

JaninaDuszejko · 07/03/2022 16:39

Books? I have a lot of perfumes and shoes as well but since all of the above are used rather than 'collected' (don't care about prices or rarity) I don't know if any of those count.

Enko · 07/03/2022 16:53

Cook books i have over 200 and I truly love them. I can usually say I have cooked from all bar 1 but it was my birthday last week and I was given 4 new ones
So give me a month or so Grin

BatshitCrazyWoman · 07/03/2022 17:04

@Goldfishmountainclimber

I am absolutely out of the mindset of collecting anything these days. I am all about declutter, declutter, declutter! We need to make our London house work for children getting bigger. I have read Marie Kondo, watched The Minimalists, thought about the environment and attempt some sort of spin on this amongst the real life situation of Lego and the washing.

Do you need to collect?

I agree. Why do you want to collect stuff, OP?
iklboo · 07/03/2022 17:12

Why not? We're not all the same. I hate minimalism. It's so empty to me, although I appreciate it's not everyone's taste.

It’s weird because while I enjoy empty spaces and clutter free home, and minimalism, I enjoy being in homes that are packed with items and on full visual overload. I just wouldn’t want to live in one.

I collect empty space. It makes me happy.

I like,
Magic the gathering
Bottle tops for crafts
Arts and crafts, various items
Warhammer 40,000 figures and magazines
Erotic story books
Forensic science books

Hawkins001 · 07/03/2022 17:49

Bar runner mats, to use when playing magic the gathering

Auntpodder · 07/03/2022 17:50

A friend has started a nice tradition - buying handmade bowls (for soup or dessert - not decorative) or plates from different places she goes to. So they don't look too random, they're either in a soft grey or soft green (or both). They look great on the table and are useful rather than just things to collect.

Nat6999 · 07/03/2022 17:57

Sindy dolls & Chalet school books

vintage and antique travel sewing kits. My favourite is a 1920's german bullet shaped kit, it is brass with blue enamelling. Most are bullet shaped but I have some rarer\expensive novelty shaped ones.

I them made from leather, aluminium, silver, brass, celluloid, wood and bakelite. You can really see the decline in quality and attention to detail by the 1950s. I also make a point to sew with them all. Because theres no point having things and not using them.

iklboo · 07/03/2022 18:19

@Hawkins001 - DH & DS play MTG. It's an expensive hobby!
