I am thinking of starting a collection.

But what of ? If you have a collection you are proud of, can I ask what it is ?

I have a collection of crown derby animals.
They're all in mint condition and currently in their boxes as I have no where suitable to display them.

Topbird29 · 06/03/2022 20:11

Fridge magnets from holidays. Now also do tea towels from holidays - do use them though! Ds seem to both collect lego and have it all over the floors...

Mintyraindrop · 06/03/2022 20:11

Glass Friendship Balls (bought by me and not by friends lol) and glass paperweights.

CrochetBug · 06/03/2022 20:13

Yarn. Apparently buying it and using it are different hobbies Grin
Crochet hooks.

Anything Beauty and the Beast themed, also Harry Potter.

Nopeihavenoidea · 06/03/2022 20:14

Christmas decorations

I also buy too many candles and everyone keeps giving me them so I suppose that’s a collection of sorts…

Davros · 06/03/2022 20:16

I collect obelisks. I have antique, modern (Versace), decorative, cheap and expensive. I love them

Wagsandclaws · 06/03/2022 20:17

Bags, I didn't start that on purpose but I bought a few cheaper ones then more expensive ones and now I've got 65.

They range from h and m to Dior and Chanel ( I've got a lot less high end ones ) I love Aspinal so have quite few of them.

I've got two large cupboards in the hallway that I keep them in. I say I'll stop now but it's quite hard and yes I do use them all in rotation and lend them out to dil, dd ect.

I'm a member of some bag pages on fb and there are ladies with larger collections than mine, they have Birkins in multiple colours ect, my budget won't stretch to Hermes.

I've never collected anything before In my life - this was purely by accident but I do love them and take good care of them, they make me really happy when I look at them.

I've only ever bought one of my expensive bags brand new - they are all pre-loved in the main.

Framed 'historic' newspaper front pages.
I started with 'first man on the moon' (1970), and continued through, inter alia, deaths of Elvis, Lennon, Michael Jackson, George Best, Diana, Ali, Mandela etc. Election of Obama, and Trump, downfall of Saddam, UK leaving EU, etc. Sporting achievements eg. Andy Murray winning Wimbledon, and the latest (today) death of Shane Warne. Others are ''Freddie Star ate my Hamster', or it might be a historic edition of a newspaper eg. the last broadsheet edition of 'The Times, or last ever edition of 'The News of The World', or 'The Dandy'.
I've over 100 now, cheap to collect, look good hanging in the hallway and stairs, and hopefully one day they'll find an appreciative home......or they might end up in a job lot of odds and ends at an auction !

Jellyfishjean · 06/03/2022 20:19

Chishnfips · 06/03/2022 20:21

Just thought of another collection I have which is random shit I find on walks. Things like rocks, bones, feathers, big rusty springs, wheels, twigs n stuff. It all lives by the front garden where it gets dumped when I get back from my walk.

Watercoloursky · 06/03/2022 20:22

Rubber ducks! Like PPs with fridge magnets, I buy themed ones as souvenirs of holidays and museum visits Smile They all sit on the bathroom windowsill.

Davros · 06/03/2022 20:22

Many years ago I decided to collect trays because I had one nice one. I never got further than one because it wasn't a natural fit and too contrived

TheSunIsStillShining · 06/03/2022 20:22

3 things.

  1. teaspoons. Have to admin never bought any one, but somehow they keep ending up following me home. Yes, I know it is not a nice thing to steal from hotels and restaurants, but at lest I always leave a generous tip.
  2. And love the feeling of being reminded of the places I traveled every morning when I have my first cup of coffee :)
Also a family mug collection. We don't have glasses (at all), just mugs with pig designs on them. Again, they are from all over the world.
  1. yarn. My fav pullover is made from yarns I bought in Canada, Hungary and Italy. Best scarf is from pure cashmere yarn I picked up eons ago in slovenia and a diff color in spain many years later.
Lottieloves · 06/03/2022 20:23

I collect Rupert the Bear Annuals. It started as about 10 years ago and i was clearing out the loft in my mums house to help her move. I found a annual from the year I was born. (1973) I go into Charity shops where ever I am to have a look but buy quite a few from Ebay. I have now have approx 30. Every Christmas I buy the current one as a gift to myself. I never read them just collect them. I am hoping to past them on to my son when he is older.

RedElephants · 06/03/2022 20:23

🐘's

Giggorata · 06/03/2022 20:25

Hat pins, cloisonné, papier-mâché masks, dolls houses, coloured glass bottles, taxidermy, tarot cards, and I have a cabinet of curiosities full of weird stuff like birds eggs replicas, butterflies, skulls, etc.
I didn't set out to collect all these things, but they are what I like, I am old, have a large house and they crept up on me…

Also, beware of letting friends and relations know you are collecting anything. It can be a mixed blessing, where they either perfectly enhance your collection or else get completely the wrong end of the stick and continuously buy stuff that isn’t right.

Theluggage15 · 06/03/2022 20:25

Jugs and fridge magnets.

EssexLioness · 06/03/2022 20:25

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 06/03/2022 20:26

Flickasmum · 06/03/2022 20:27

Empty spaces! I'm trying really hard to declutter.
But I often can't resist books and I've accidentally collected three ancient cats as well Blush
