To not buy non vegan food

I’ve recently (2 months ago) gone vegan after watching Earthlings and thinking about how I can’t honestly distinguish between eating a dog or a cow.

DH isn’t vegan and has no intent of becoming one, which is fine, obviously ideally I’d like if we could be a plant based household but it’s his life and diet!

However I feel really uncomfortable buying him eggs and meat when I go to the shops. Today it’s caused a bit of a row as I popped into our veg shop to stock up on veg and he asked me to pick up milk and eggs. I said I didn’t really want to buy them 🤦‍♀️

He’ll eat it what he wants of course but I don’t want to buy things associated with animal suffering really 🤷🏼‍♀️

I love how everyone instantly gets up on their back legs at the very thought of vegans veganing Grin

If everyone were to become vegan they wouldn’t not be reducing animal suffering. There simply won’t be any animals; who is going to keep fields of livestock simply because we love them?
Ruminants such as cows and sheep can turn grass, which we can’t eat, into milk and meat, which we can.

Seriously? Are you that stupid?

@ImprobablePuffin

I'm a meat eater and cannot believe how disrespectful some posters are being discussing how dog tastes on a thread from a vegan. No matter how much you disagree with OP why the need to be so antagonistic and rude.
OP literally started it

@Dashel if touching a bottle of milk makes her uncomfortable, eating potatoes, cereal or carrots shoukd make her equally uncomfortable too. Those same dairy cows are used to produce both. To pretend anything otherwise is hypocrisy.

Probably because they are horrendous and the poster is wondering how you can make light of such awful suffering.

I'm confused, you think they went to a dog slaughter house because of me?

Also, when have I made light of suffering? I didn't even realise that poster was suffering.

Not all dog meat goes through the slaughterhouse route, in Nigeria the dogs are free range and they slaughter them in the villages just like any other animal (or they are J5 - road kill). If you are horrified by that you've obviously never been properly hungry.

Hmm, I don't think you quite understand. I think the poster was asking if you had ever been to one, because if you had you wouldn't be so flippant.

You bring munching dog meat to a thread about someone not buying eggs for their DH

Op brought munching dog meat up

Yes, the poster said they'd been to a dog slaughter house. That seems an unusual choice to me so I asked why.

Everyone is upset at the dog meat

No mention of the kangaroo meat

donquixotedelamancha · 05/03/2022 21:09

No intention of answering then? Or having an informed conversation?

I thought it was obvious from my question- no I haven't been to one. Why did you go?

Migrainesbythedozen · 05/03/2022 21:10

Just be aware those 'movies' and 'documentaries' can be quite manipulative and deceitful, they are pushing an extremist vegan agenda and none of them, by experience, are above lying, distorting and manipulating the truth. Most animals are not treated anywhere near as bad as these extremist groups say they are.

True. It tends to be outside Europe where the animals are treated horribly too.
Migrainesbythedozen · 05/03/2022 21:11

Sorry that post of mine just then was for the OP @Ellie198712 .

donquixotedelamancha · 05/03/2022 21:11

Bragging about eating dog meat on a thread by a vegan

How is it bragging? The OP is about eating meat. Why is dog meat worse than cow meat?
