How much do you spend on beauty treatments?

Not an AIBU but I’m curious. How much do you ladies spend on beauty products a year? Including makeup, skincare, hair cuts/products, beauty treatments like facials, nails, waxing, Botox etc.

OP posts:

Nails £35/40 every 3 weeks (which is actually quite expensive!)

Getting toes done now every 6 weeks probably £30.

Hair every 3-6 months can be £30-170 each time depending on what I get done.

Make up I do myself. Facial waxing/Bleaching I do myself. Bikini grooming I do myself. Waxing or shaving myself. Used to have lashes but they wrecked my natural ones which are actually quite long and thick and also cost a fortune so I stopped those ages ago.

I think when I get to 40/45 and DC/future DCs are into high school age I'll start getting CACI facials and more pamper stuff. Hopefully I'll have more money at that point 🤞🏽

GalactatingGoddess · 05/03/2022 20:28

Probs £1200 per year for treatments plus extra for make up etc which I don't buy often as I don't use a lot. £1500 max

Tunnocks34 · 05/03/2022 20:34

Eeek I don’t know really

Nails £20 x twice a month = £480 per year
Lashes £30 every three weeks = £520 per year
Hair £50 every 8 weeks = £325 per year
Make up approx £60 every 3 months to replace foundation/concealer/mascara = £240 per year
Skin care £40 every three months= £160 per year

Total approx £1725

BertieQueen · 05/03/2022 21:00

About £50 a year. Very low maintenance here. Grin

NETSRIK · 05/03/2022 21:03

Hair £0
Nails £0
Make Up £20 per month probably

I must be a slattern

My hair grows very fast so I cut fringe and use thinning scissors between appointments. Colour my own hair, do brows and nails myself. Am not working at the moment so feel I have to economize. Having gone without decent skin care products for a couple of years now, I'm amazed that my skin doesn't look any worse, in fact I look just the same. I am fortunate that I've never had allergies or any other issues, it does make me wonder how much money I wasted previously though.

speakout · 06/03/2022 06:57

Sharnydubs I agree about skin care products.

In the previous year I have been using only Dermalogica prducts, having a monthly facial ( all paid for by a grant I was given to pamper myself). My skin started to look better, but I think because I started a good skin care regime at home rather than the products themselves.
I have continued my regime but using cheaper products, in the past 4 months mostly ALDI products with some Cera Ve.
The cheaper products work just as well as the pricy ones- I won't be buying them again.

Superhanz · 06/03/2022 07:26

Wish I hadn't read this thread! I'm 3.5 months PP and I'm barely finding time for a shower!

If I am not wrong, tretinoin is the only anti ageing ingredient actually proven to work. I get it from overseas so it costs me £2 per tube which lasts for 6 months. I don't really believe in pricey products either.
cereallover · 06/03/2022 07:40

Botox and filler once or twice a year if husband gets bonus/pay raise. £480
Haircut every 6 weeks £40
I used to love getting acrylic nails with fancy design on them but I can't be arsed anymore.

speakout · 06/03/2022 07:42

JanisMoplin

Exactly.

My skin looks better now that I take some care of it, cleansing, exfolation and moisture, but that can be done just as well with inexpensive products.

XmasElf10 · 06/03/2022 07:48

Box dye at home once every 8 weeks at about £6/box. Hair cut annually at about £60. I use expensive cleanser and moisturiser due to rosacea so about £50/ quarter. I don’t wear make up, do nails etc.. maybe £300 a year.. I have the money but no time to spend on faffing with my face and hair!!

moita · 06/03/2022 09:54

Make I'm not sure but I buy mid range brands. Same with skincare.

Hair is £37 every 8 weeks.
Gel nails every 4 weeks: £20. I remove the gel myself at home.

I'd spend more if we had more money

Can I ask where you buy the tretinoin from? I used to get it in pharmacies on trips to Spain, but I've heard it's no longer available otc there?

Benjispruce5 · 06/03/2022 11:22

@Sharnydubs yep. There was a dermatologist on one of those programs about ageing and he said the only things that work are retinol, spf and a moisturiser. The moisturiser just needs to moisturise so he said Nivea/Lacura perform just as well as expensive ones.

Benjispruce5 · 06/03/2022 11:25

Since then I use The Ordinary retinol overnight Oct to March, Aldi Caviar cream, La Roche Possay Anyhelios fave SPF of 30 but will get 50 when it runs out. It’s £18 but I’ve had it a year and it’s sunny so a lot goes a long way. I would buy cheaper but it works really well under makeup and that’s a priority for me. I don’t use retinol in summer as I’m prone to pigment patches and it makes skin more light sensitive. I might try it when I buy spf 50.

Benjispruce5 · 06/03/2022 11:26
  • Anthelios *runny not sunny
Wagsandclaws · 06/03/2022 13:00

@IcedPurple try Geoffs pharmacy, I used to get my 0.5 from there - despite making out it's in the U.K. it comes from the Far East so 🤷‍♀️

Tbh you'd probably be better off using either dermatica or skin and me. It's about £20 per month and has prescription grade Tret/retinol in as they make it for your particular face.

Wagsandclaws · 06/03/2022 13:06

Oh and my skin since I started using dermatica is pretty good - for full disclosure I had a neck and lower facelift after a 6 stone weight loss in my late 40's so I wanted my skin to look better on the surface as well as the structure.

I'm now 50 and use the dermatica every other day so it lasts a couple of months. Amazing stuff! See attached pic, skin is glowing with minimal makeup ( think I had bb cream and blusher on here ).

Thanks. Just had a look. 5 quid for 0.1% tretinoin? Too good to be true?

I'm still using up a supply of 0.1% I bought in Spain a while back. I mix it in with a lot of face cream, however. I don't use it directly on my face.

Wagsandclaws · 06/03/2022 13:47

No it's definitely that price, used to be cheaper.

Takes a while to get here though, about a month of memory serves me correctly.

It's a good idea to mix it in, it still does the same job I think. The tube of dermatica just has retinol, niaminacide ( sorry if. It spelt correctly ) and it's in a sort of serum form. I always follow it with a rich Aldi moisturiser.

Strokethefurrywall · 06/03/2022 13:55

I don’t really do nails and I’m not so much into make up, but use Clarins generally.

I just had my eyebrows micro bladed at $350, will last 2 years
Juvederm in my lips $550
Botox is $350
Will probably get lashes for my trip back to UK so I don’t have to faff with mascara - $175

I get fairly regular massages though - $100 a pop.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2022 13:56

Nails £30pm. Make-up, I buy high end stuff like Estee Lauder and YSL but it only needs replacing every 6 months or so. I don't have Botox or anything, 31 years old so not needed yet! I do my own hair at home. Occasionally treat myself to a facial but not often. I don't bother with face creams and the like, just cleanse after removing make up.

dizzydizzydizzy · 06/03/2022 16:11

Hair cut - free - friend does them
Shampoo & conditioner- £20 once every few months
Buy a lipstick or mascara once every few years
Nothing else

crosstalk · 06/03/2022 16:40

Nothing. Never have done.
