Not an AIBU but I’m curious. How much do you ladies spend on beauty products a year? Including makeup, skincare, hair cuts/products, beauty treatments like facials, nails, waxing, Botox etc.

OP posts:
Queeniepies · 05/03/2022 15:29

Hair cut and foils every 6 weeks - £85
Lip fillers every 9 months - £250
Brows laminated every month - £25
Legs waxed and gel toe nails every few weeks £25

SuitcaseOfWhine · 05/03/2022 15:31

I would say I look like shite most of the time, so just to maintain looking this crap costs me:

Hair dye:£8 per month
Make up: about £150 a year, so £10-12 a month. My foundation costs £35, but I don't wear it in the summer, so can get away with only buying every 9 months
Hair cuts: DIY, so free.
Skin care: Just a simple light moisturiser for under a fiver. Don't wear nightcream, although my sister sometimes gives me samples
Razors: £6 a month

I'm not keen on the attention and faffing that comes from beauty treatments, and having the time is the biggest issue. I would also rather buy myself something nice I can keep than have a treatment. I might treat myself to a massage for my 40th though and have considered Botox due to the massive frown lines I have. I'm petrified of it going wrong though.

I was thinking to myself how rubbish I look earlier, but when I looked around me in the shopping centre I realised the only people that looked glam were the 19 year olds, and most people don't give a crap what they look like.

Greengagesnfennel · 05/03/2022 15:32

Haircut every 3m £45. Moisturiser £15 every 3m. Nothing else. No make-up except for weddings and not been invited to one of those for years sadly.

PiesNotGuys · 05/03/2022 15:37

I have make up items older than me and I still use them. I spend around £10 on a replacement item once or twice a year, usually buy from the supermarket.

I use 50spf face cream daily and that’s £5 every two months ish. I use 50spf sun lotion on my body 2-3 days a week in the summer months maybe £5 a month then. I don’t use anything else on my skin except shower gel really. Is suncream counted or would that be more a health product?

I don’t get my hair cut or coloured, I’ve never had my nails or eyebrows done or had a facial or Botox. I don’t get anything waxed but I do buy replacement razors and shave.

Despite all of the above I actually do wear makeup daily, I style my hair, I feel like I present well I guess I just don’t spend much money on it. Maybe I will when I get older, nearly 40 at the mo, someone must be splashing the cash as the high street is stuffed full of salons doing something.

coronabeer · 05/03/2022 15:42

Less than £100 per year. Never have any professional treatments, cut my own hair, just a bit for moisturiser and make up which is only topped up when I run out. I'd like to be able to spend a little bit more, but can't afford to at the moment (ongoing divorce with awkward ex who isn't paying what he should). One thing I like is a manicure or pedicure, but haven't had one for years.

You know when someone mentions a brand you’ve never heard of it’s going to be eyewateringly expensive!

And in this instance you’d be absolutely right!

neverbeenskiing · 05/03/2022 17:37

Hair colour, cut and blow dry £70 every 5-6 wks
Make-up averages out £20-30 pm
Skincare probably £30 pm
Massage £60 maybe twice a year
Perfume about £120 per year
Gym membership £35 pm
I do my own nails and eyebrows, because I've paid to have them done professionally in the past and didn't see much difference.

Floralnomad · 05/03/2022 17:45

Hair gets trimmed about twice a year at £20 a time . I don’t wear make up and don’t buy skin care products for myself .

iwishu · 05/03/2022 17:54

About £1800 a year, hair, manicure, hair and beauty products, it could be more if I calculated everything, then there's clothes and shoes but that's another thread.

primroseblue · 05/03/2022 18:22

About £60 total per year on budget makeup and skincare (Aldi, No7, Superdrug). No beauty treatments or haircuts. I used to spend about £1k a year on Botox though, but have stopped for a few years, plan to return to it in a few years when I'm done breastfeeding.

melonhead · 05/03/2022 19:17

About £80 on haircuts every other month. Do my own nails, fake tan, laser hair removal, eyebrow tint, and facials. Spend a lot on makeup and tons on skincare... probably about £200 a month. Can't wait to get back to the salon for lash lifts - I've been doing my own during lockdown but it's nowhere near as good.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/03/2022 19:19

Very little!

Not counting hair cuts, easily under £100 per year

Hair cuts would be about £200 a year I guess

AnnaDelvorkina · 05/03/2022 19:22

Hair colour is 200-220 Euros, 3 times a year.
Haircut is 70 Euros, 4 times a year.

Bikini wax 35 Euros, about 4 times a year, (has changed after radiotherapy...hardly any hair and slow/patchy growing, finished treatment in October and have so far only needed/wanted 1 wax), now also get upper half of legs done at the same time, 15 Euros

Sometimes get a blowdry which is around 35 Euros.

Plus tips for all of these treatments.

Love body massages, foot massages, and pedicures, but it's not easy to find good ones and sometimes it's more stressful to find the time and set up the appointments. Also since COVID I am even more picky about cleanliness.

Face masks, nails, brows, I do myself (all very very low maintenance).

mizzo · 05/03/2022 19:26

Previously under £100 but have been trying to indulge in more self care so probably £500 more recently more if you include gifts,
Hairdressers £180 (£30 cut every other month ish)
Shampoo and conditioner £50ish
Skincare- £30ish
Makeup- I spent £50 on a cc cream yesterday it's the most a I've ever spent on make up in one go, and the first thing I've bought in a year. It looked great in the shop but in the wild I'm not sure, it looks a bit pale HmmI hardly ever wear make up any more because I feel like a clown in it and when I do I usually just use what DD has left here.
Treatments £100ish, more if you include ones paid for by others as a present.
I have a spa day once a year as a gift.
I have a love/hate relationship with gel polish so get them done three or four times in a row then get annoyed my nails are wrecked and leave them to heal then get bored of plain nails.
I get my eyebrows shaped every other month but again usually get vouchers as gifts

takemebacktothe80s · 05/03/2022 19:29

Sorry, but why do people feel the need to constantly boast about being a high earner? No one asked how much you earn, they asked what you spend on Beauty products???? It really grates me when I see it on posts.Hmm

Fairislefandango · 05/03/2022 19:39

Sorry, but why do people feel the need to constantly boast about being a high earner?

Imo it's totally relevant when you're talking about how much you spend on things. It shows to what extent you prioritise that thing. Someone who is on a lowish income, but buys high-end brands, gets regular treatments etc is potentially much more invested in beauty stuff than a high earner who buys high-end brands simply because they can afford it so why not.

I have the rich cream and the Cleanser. First one I've had twice in beauty boxes and the Cleanser was a gift from DH. I wouldn't say they are anything special at all and actually the rich cream isn't hydrating enough for me to use with Tret. I need to stick to La Roche Posay. Same with La Mer which I've used a few products of and absolutely not worth it. 🤷‍♀️
CeeceeBloomingdale · 05/03/2022 20:01

Hair cut once or twice a year, £20-25 a pop. I no longer colour it but when I did I did it at home.

I don't have any treatments.

I rarely bother with nails but do my own when I do bother.

I shave my legs and use a Babylis IPL which cost about £25 a year ago (bought with Christmas money)

I don't wear make up often and when I do not a huge amount. I tend to replace the odd bit but mainly just use anything I receive in gifts sets.

I do like skin care but don't spend much on it. I actually have some Augustinus Bader which was a gift but don't rate it at all, it's so greasy. I'd rather use Aldi Lacura. I also have an almost finished Elemis superfood day cream (gift) and Dr Hauschka rose day cream and cleanser (bought in the sale with birthday money). I tend to buy cheaper brands like the inkey and revolution myself. I babe good skin and find less is generally better for it. I pluck my own brows.

I shave my legs and use a Babylis IPL I bought on sale last year for £25 with Christmas money.

I have a real weakness for perfume and have many. I tend to get these as gifts.

Other than deodorant, shampoo and aqueous cream I don't buy much else. Hair heat protector is whatever is cheap in Home Bargains.

All in all under £100 a year and I'm rather low maintenance.

Merryoldgoat · 05/03/2022 20:07

£500 ish on makeup and skincare

Nails I’ve just started, £50 ish a month?

Hair about £50 every 4 months

Occasional facial - £200 a year maybe

I don’t have eyelashes or eyebrows done and don’t have Botox or filler.

RoseZinfandel · 05/03/2022 20:08

Very little.
I don't really buy any products to use at home that are just for me - and we share all toiletries like soap, shampoo, sun cream as a family, and I just buy the cheapest ones.

I don't use any makeup or skincare.

I used to occasionally pay for a haircut, leg wax, or eyebrow treatment, but I haven't since the pandemic started - I just do it myself, or DH cuts my hair.

Ellopet · 05/03/2022 20:21

Hair £75 x 4 max a year (£300, so expensive!)
Make-up, very little, maybe £30 a year
Skincare approx £250 a year
Shampoo + conditioner £10 year
Massage £100 a year or more as gifts
So roughly £700, it mounts up!
