Are we able to discuss the Black students trapped in Ukraine on here?

I think I have read most threads on here about Ukraine/Russia but have not seen any discussions on this issue here.

I saw on TikTok (yup, TikTok has so much information/videos on what’s going on) that Jamaica has now managed to get its people out. It’s the majority of African students that are facing problems getting out. I’m wondering what African leaders are doing about it? A lot of the African-American blogs/comments are furious about this issue (rightly so).

@MangshorJhol

India has sided with Russia. That doesn’t mean innocent Indian students deserve to die in Ukraine and not be evacuated. That is fairly perverted logic. I also don’t think we should be boycotting Russians in the same vein. Dissent in Russia is almost a death sentence (and certainly a prison sentence). We should give every opportunity to those Russians who want to leave as well. Many as are as much of a victim of Putin as the Ukrainians.
Hasn't India sided with Russia because it needs an ally if and when China attacks India? Sadly India needs to be realistic given China is already over the border in Ladakh?
MangshorJhol · 06/03/2022 14:18

@JanisMoplin Yes that is correct. Also almost 80% of Indian military equipment is Russian made. So India relies heavily on Russia for parts and mechanics etc.

MangshorJhol · 06/03/2022 14:22

@JanisMoplin Also the border where the war in ‘62 broke out was NEFA or what today is Arunachal. That is also disputed today.

User112 · 06/03/2022 14:23

India hasn’t sided with Russia. They just didn’t go against them. They can’t afford to go against them given the geo political situation they have from their delightful neighbours.

This is awful.
It is so sad. I have heard so many POC say that they really don’t care about the plight of the Ukrainian people .
These are decent people who are just fed up with the racism exhibited by Ukrainians
In fact , a black colleague told me that she didn’t want any Ukrainians in England as they are extremely racist.

Why2why · 06/03/2022 14:26

The West will regret the way they treat countries where people’s skin are not predominantly white. New alliances are being formed and the West’s treachery and hatred towards people of black and brown skin, whilst greedily taking their wealth away, will not be forgotten. The West has fatten itself on the wealth of these countries but hate and dehumanise the people because they are not white.

Outhouse71421 · 06/03/2022 14:26

@emuloc

Agree.

Why2why · 06/03/2022 14:28

@Lampzade, they will live to regret it. That’s why the Royal Family is being rejected across black and brown Commonwealth countries. People are sick to their back teeth with this nonsense.

Absolutely.
The truth is that Britain no longer has the power that it once had which hasn’t been helped by leaving the EU
Many Commonwealth countries have distanced themselves from Britain and are forming alliances with other countries.

Impier · 06/03/2022 14:54

@Why2why, when international surveys are undertaken of people's attitudes to other races, Western Europe in general and Britain in particular come out among the least racist and most welcoming places in the world.

The British people have a lot to be proud of and, given the recent reports of how non-Ukrainian people fleeing the fighting have been treated recently, hopefully other peoples will emulate us in the future.

Loudhousefun · 06/03/2022 15:46

And don’t say we ‘feel closer to Ukrainian culture.’ The UK is a country that eats curry as a takeaway on a regular basis and there are kebab vans selling falafel everywhere. What parts of Ukrainian culture is the UK close to?
Other than the fact that they share the colour of your skin.
And a reminder that the tip of North Africa is much closer to mainland Europe than Ukraine is to Spain. Geographical proximity isn’t an excuse either.

Pretty much in a nutshell, this needs to be said on LBC radio. The presenters on the are in absolute and complete denial about the near enough apartheid practices occurring during the evacuation in Ukraine. I have stopped listening and friends and family are also boycotting the station.

All those posters who are saying that the UK is much less racist, should note that the racism a lot of people experience here is covert. Still unpleasant and harmful, none the less.

Exactly.

I don’t get this idea of some sort competition for who is less racist.

"I don’t get this idea of some sort competition for who is less racist."

I was responding to your comment at 14:26 today in which you made unpleasant comments about the West. I searched for any evidence from real surveys to back up your statements, and every single survey I found showed the West is the most inclusive place in the world. The West isn't perfect, but there is literally nowhere better as shown by the odious actions of the Ukrainians.

If you want to repeat the exercise, I searched for "international survey racism" which provided a host of results.

Exactly In fact, some argue that covert racism is actually worse because it is difficult to prove.

What does “the most inclusive place in the world means”? Who should be grateful for that and who should pay themselves on the back for this? Also who gave the West such an accolade of being the “most inclusive” (I guess that means least racist?) in the world? Which parts of the world was included in this competition?

Hi everyone, good evening!

I hope that MN don’t take down this thread.
These issues need to be discussed

Yes. I do not want to see the thread deleted. I was dismayed that the last one discussing this was taken down. What is happening to people of colour in Ukraine must not be allowed to be swept under the carpet.
