So yesterday in a few interviews Liz Truss said she would support people going to fight in Ukraine. I couldn't believe it when i was watching her saying it, knowing Putins threats. This morning i've heard that apparently Putin has said that her comments are the reason he put his nuclear deterrent forces on high alert. So now it feels like if he was to attack any other country it would be the UK as he would use her comments as an excuse by saying the UK is threatening his country and people by letting people go and fight against the Russian army. Honestly how could she be that stupid!!

I would actually vote for BJ if he called Putin a cunt. In fact I would vote for anyone who who came on the telly and called Putin a fat cunt.

Ditto anyone who called Johnson a fat cunt. (Unless it was Liz Truss doing it as a stunt, because she's a half-witted cunt)

@TorringtonDean I'd prefer it if someone just bumped him off. He must be upsetting an awful lot of his powerful friends. It would be a shame if he had an accident.

I was surprised by what she said because we're so used to politicians being mealy-mouthed and cautious. To actually hear a politician say, 'Well, if you actually want to go and join some kind of International Brigade in Ukraine, go ahead, we're not going to stop you,' felt quite momentous and refreshing. As has been proven, Putin sees diplomacy and pacificism as weakness, and a weakness he wants to crush. I very much doubt he was thinking, 'I was going to play nice but now three bus drivers from Hull are on their way here it's gonna have to go nuclear.' If he's miffed at Liz then how mad is he at Germany committing to building up their military, Sweden pledging to arm the Ukrainians and that Ukrainian guy at the U.N. telling him to go top himself in a bunker?

A small amount of anonymous people on MN are arguing. I doubt Putin is rubbing his hands and crowing that the seeds of discontent are working. 🤣🤣🤣 You really overestimate your importance.

Putin will use anything in order to do some sabre rattling. If he hadn't had Liz Truss' statement to point to he would have had something else, like Finland considering NATO membership or Germany increasing its defence spending. All things that he probably doesn't like very much. As the only meaningful threat Putin has against the NATO powers is nuclear that's what he will threaten every time something happens that he doesn't like. But that doesn't mean that Russia would ever press the button because everybody knows that's game over for everyone.

There are some really patronising and condescending people on this thread.....it's not necessary at all.
To clarify i don't think Liz needs to apologise to Putin. However i do think she should say that she doesn't support people from the UK going to fight against Russia in Ukraine as it was a wreckless comment.
None of this is about DV so please stop going on about it, it's ridiculous and anyone saying it sound stupid comparing the two 🙄
This is not to do with bashing any of the Tories either, anyone saying that on tv is irresponsible in my view regardless of who they are and what party they come from/support.

Liz Truss is a strong woman and extremely highly educated. Since she has become Foreign Secretary a succession of inadequate men have tried to put her down. This is actually an indication of her strength. She knows her game.

Putin is a megalomaniac bully. To issue nuclear warnings is insane. To blame Liz Truss is gaslighting at its finest.

The only person to blame for Putin threatening to destroy the planet os Putin himself.

She should be taken to the marketplace and horsewhipped! It's a dumb comment to make and I don't think it's anything to do with her being a woman and being blamed, it's just stupid

Why would the Ukrainian army want randoms from here, who are more of a liability for a start- plus nobody was encouraging brits to fight the taliban so why would anyone in this case? People weren't even meant to go and give humanitarian assistance but are being encouraged to travel to fight in war

After all, look at Shamima Begum. Absolutely, she affiliated herself with a terrorist organisation, thereby making herself an enemy of the UK. But she was just 16 years old. If she's been stripped of her citizenship, is it responsible of Liz Truss to suggest it's ok, so long as you're fighting for the good guys? People who have been radicalised don't think that they're evil. They think they're fighting for a noble cause.

We all need some humour in life, especially at difficult times so thank you I can't stop thinking about all those poor families in Ukraine having to leave their homes, scared, suffering, dying......it's utterly heartbreaking. I so wish something more could be done to help them, if military from other countries could help that would be great. The fact is it won't help Ukraine if others going to help on the ground causes a big war and possibly the use of nuclear weapons. I can't see a solution to it all which is awful, even if Putin were bumped off what if someone just as bad or God forbid worse replaces him.
