What the hell was Liz Truss thinking!!?

So yesterday in a few interviews Liz Truss said she would support people going to fight in Ukraine. I couldn't believe it when i was watching her saying it, knowing Putins threats. This morning i've heard that apparently Putin has said that her comments are the reason he put his nuclear deterrent forces on high alert. So now it feels like if he was to attack any other country it would be the UK as he would use her comments as an excuse by saying the UK is threatening his country and people by letting people go and fight against the Russian army. Honestly how could she be that stupid!!

I don't want Liz Truss's head on a plate, I just can't quite believe she is the Foreign Secretary.

Mind you, there have been so many incompetent ministers in that cabinet, she is in erm, bad company.

Applesonthelawn · 28/02/2022 16:58

Of course that isn't the reason he put them on nuclear alert. You can't take anything he says at face value. He's mad. There will be a lot of behavioural scientists trying to figure out what is the best thing to say publicly to avoid triggering him. That assessment is as much a part of our response as is getting weapons to the Ukraine soldiers.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 28/02/2022 16:58

This isn't about Liz Truss. Even if Gandhi had been in her place, Putin still would have been offended at something.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 28/02/2022 17:09

Perhaps posters who are keen to blame Liz Truss for the actions of Putin should consider whether they are happy being used by the Russian propaganda machine.

Exactly.

I can't work out whether Kremlin supporters have joined MN and are enjoying stirring up shit or whether as usual loads of posters are happy to have a stick to beat the Tories with even if it involves taking the responsibility away from a tyrant like Putin.

I don't know much about Liz Truss apart from the cheese incident and the fact that she (thankfully) does not support gender self-ID.

Cognoscenti · 28/02/2022 17:14

I don't blame her for what is happening, just a very stupid thing to do and doesn't sound like she thinks things through before saying them.

Absolutely to this, plus I’m glad re last thing
LizDoingTheCanCan · 28/02/2022 17:16

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees Didn't you hear, she's massively backtracked on the self ID issue. She's realised that ignorance towards trans people is a bad look even by her poor standards!

It's possible to differentiate between Russian propaganda and calling out a piss poor politician. This is the latter.

Sorry wrong thread (obviously)

Alainlechat · 28/02/2022 17:19

Typical abusive male trope, the woman made me do it.

Nicole Sturgeon who has nothing positive to say about Truss has said that the only person responsible for saying what he said, is Putin.

ButtockUp · 28/02/2022 17:19

Irrespective of what she may have said , has said or inferred, I think that she's hopelessly out of her depth and out of touch .

I'll say 'cheese' and leave it there .

doublemonkey · 28/02/2022 17:20

Yes yes, of course it's a woman's fault..🙄

"Look what you made me do!"

Yirk · 28/02/2022 17:20

Just shush Liz 🥴

Libraryghost · 28/02/2022 17:21

Absolute rubbish. It doesn't matter what Truss say or does - Putin is madman. He will be upset with anyone to does not agree with him. What is she supposed to do - try and appease the nutter?

Clearly, according to some of the Putin supporters on here!
Jansobieski · 28/02/2022 17:27

We are all putin stooges if we express the opinion that she's a waste of space and the last thing we need as our Foreign Secretary ? The woman is a liability. And to cast her as someone being gaslit by an abusive partner is flippin ridiculous. Apparently she's Thatcher incarnate.
Johnson can't be trusted on the international scene - look what happened to Nasari Radcliffe ? When we need a strong government we end up with a load of bumbling incompetents who make huge gaffes.

HumbleBumbleLady · 28/02/2022 17:28

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Personally, if a country of soldiers we’re trying to take over our country, destabilise a nation and kill innocent civilians, then I’d appreciate all the help we could get. I’ve just seen some veteran special forces are flying over to help Ukraine from America, UK and Germany, good on them!

holliem91 · 28/02/2022 17:30

@HumbleBumbleLady sorry if this sounds a stupid question but is special services getting involved not going to add fuel to the fire? I thought putin's specific comment was "if anyone gets involved there will be consequences that have never been seen before"?

holliem91 · 28/02/2022 17:31

*special forces that should of said, not services Hmm

Personally I would congratulate Liz Truss if she appeared live on TV, mooned at the camera and said 'that's what I think of you Vlad'

Oh yes that's what some people forget. If the shoe was on the other foot we would want help!
Kennykenkencat · 28/02/2022 17:42

He really is grasping at straws if people believe it was a British woman’s comments that decided that he needed to reach for a nuke to protect himself.

doublemonkey · 28/02/2022 17:46

Is there a link to this apocalyptic statement?
