The man seems quite incredible. I didn’t know much about him until now but he seems incredibly brave and intelligent. Was just reading an article about how he has been tirelessly and successfully speaking to western leaders to get stiffer sanctions and support implemented, I really hope he remains safe.

YANBU. He’s a hero.

I pray he and his family make it through this alive. Putin is a monster.

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 23:08

I'm sure his multi million pound properties worldwide will help him through; nevertheless he's likely v grateful for the prayers of commoners.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/03/2022 23:10

Ah well, not all threads are for all people.🤷‍♀️ Millions of people around the world are in admiration of Zelensky's leadership. Its great to have a representative who leads from the front and fights for their country, facing the same threat as everyone else.

I get that's not your thing @Urbanisation, but different strokes and all that.Smile

powershowerforanhour · 01/03/2022 23:10

"what started off as an inspiring thread has decended into a debate about who can quote the more obscure historian or philosopher, and if I may say sounding like bitchy little 6th formers"

Well since the best I could come up with was Dale Carnegie, Urbanisation has me beat all ends up I'd say Grin

I thought that about the botox too, Boots. Either that or he has amazing face cream and has never smiled in the past 50 years thus preserving the smoothness.
If it's true about the paranoia, who does he let near him with a syringeful of toxins? Or has he been availing of DIY Botox youtube videos during lockdown and felt confident to show off the results in time for his big event?

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 23:10

I don't know why you keep on deleting my posts Mumsnet as they don't contain personal attacks and, unlike most of this thread, don't contain misinformation.

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 23:13

@TooBigForMyBoots I just look at where the money's coming from is all. No heroes, no villains.

EchosMum2007 · 01/03/2022 23:18

On the surface, yes, I agree, he seems impressive. At the same time there is so much egregious propaganda on both sides, that you really have to be quite discerning. I have quite close ties with Ukraine through family, and though I've never lived there I have family members that still do, so I'm somewhat in the loop of what's going on there. Regardless of what you currently hear on tv, Ukraine is far from being a democracy. If anyone tries to tell you it is, they are lying. Ukraine isn’t a democracy, it's a deeply corrupt state, ok, maybe in its infancy of democratic aspirations. For example, to hold on to power the Ukrainian president shut down the three tv stations that were openly criticising him and his policies, imprisoned the head of the opposition political party that had come in 2nd place in the elections, and went and arrested and jailed that party’s leaders. This is exactly what Putin has been accused of doing. But Ukraine did exactly the same with the support of the US. You won’t hear any of this in the mainstream media over here, really don't think you would. Smoke and mirrors.

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 23:19

Although actually, a bloke who rose to power via a closed election supported by oligarchs, who has openly spoken in support of Armenian genocide, who sides folks off to the Stans, whose security forces fairly regularly kill/rape/brutally assault folk, who fucked the covid response and failed to do anything about the resulting depression while still buying a bunch of luxury flats in Hyde Park .. maybe he's not Top Number One Guy?

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/03/2022 23:22

Check out the difference between his forehead lines 2 weeks ago and now @powershowerforanhour. Putin's face is full of botox and fillers. I'd say he used Wendy Deng's face fixer.Wink

I wonder who will be playing the goodies and the baddies in the forthcoming Disney adaptation?

Proper leadership! I am well impressed. And compared with our shower of shit…

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/03/2022 23:42

TBF, Putin wears built up boots as well.😂😂😂

Derkle · 01/03/2022 23:48

@DropYourSword

Boris is a bit of a buffoon but I don’t think you can question his looks! There are lots of people who agree that he’s one of the most handsome PMs we’ve had. I have fantasies about sucking his eyebrows

I can definitely question his looks!!
Good god @ShittyFingers I don't know what gin you're drinking at this time of the morning, but I think I want some!

No. No you don't. Really you don't, not if it makes you think Boris is attractive Confused
TooBigForMyBoots · 01/03/2022 23:49

Long Covid?😂

I do hope Zelensky inspires people to expect more from their leadership.🤞

I do hope that's satire. If not, don't you have a branch of Specsavers in your locality?! (Other opticians are available...)

On a serious note I'm in awe of the courage of the Ukrainians. Absolutely in awe.

Mamanyt · 02/03/2022 02:06

The entire Ukrainian parliament has armed itself and is fighting in the streets, between STILL running the country. They are remarkable. On the other hand, so many still have parents and grandparents who lived under the rule of the USSR, which gives them an extra interest in fighting to the death, if necessary.

And I noted, with great glee, that digital highway signs now read, "Russia, go f**k yourselves."

TuesdaySmoozday · 02/03/2022 02:09

Very brave, very courageous, admirable, great leader etc..

But he is very likely to end up with the blood of thousands on his hands. He led his country to war

I don't mean this in an argumentative way, but what else could he have done? Capitulate to Putin? Wouldn't that have just caused other issues?
