The man seems quite incredible. I didn’t know much about him until now but he seems incredibly brave and intelligent. Was just reading an article about how he has been tirelessly and successfully speaking to western leaders to get stiffer sanctions and support implemented, I really hope he remains safe.

I also think he is absolutely incredible. What a true leader. It doesn't matter what his background is (as a comedian or actor) it's what he's doing now he will be remembered for. If only we had inspiring leaders like that we could all rally behind during difficult times. Our reaction to war if it reaches our shores will be sadly very different I suspect.

I really hope he stays safe.

Maisymoomoo22 · 01/03/2022 19:00

Completely off topic but on learning that Putin is 70 years old it had me wondering if he was ever found to be showing signs of dementia, what I wonder would be the protocol?
What is in place for dealing with this if it came up?
Would anyone be brave enough to implement measures if they were ever needed?

fetchacloth · 01/03/2022 19:05

I've been really impressed by the tenacity of the Ukraine President and his leadership.
I really hope that he can pull this off though. Putin is no pushover.🤔

Therira · 01/03/2022 19:08

I have never wanted anyone to succeed more than this man. Total admiration.

NaiceHamAndHugs · 01/03/2022 19:12

The man is a true hero. It may be an uncertain future for him at the moment but I think that globally he’s a shining example of hope. It just goes to show that you don’t need to come from the kind of background that politicians traditionally do to be a successful and strong leader. He also shows hope for a liberal future. I really hope that out of this tragic and needless war that other countries are taking not and people are feeling inspired by what they see.

He’s always going to be remembered in history as a true man of the people and an absolute hero.

Plus the YouTube videos of him on the dancing. OH EM EFFING GEE.

whittingtonmum · 01/03/2022 19:17

Totally all the way for Zelensky. What great courage and determination.

For those who support his call for a no-fly zone. Totally understand that he is calling for that and if I were in his shoes I would do the same.

But I am in my British shoes and I don't want to widen out this war were we will see direct combat between Britain (or another NATO country) and Russia. This is incredibly dangerous for all of us. I almost never agree with Boris but on this point I do. So all the way with Zelensky up to this point.

And I say this as someone who lived in Ukraine for many years and still have friends and acquaintances there who are sheltering in basements and I am desperate for them all. Desperately trying to get an answer from the British Embassy in Bucharest about this new humanitarian visa scheme which was announced today so I can sponsor one of my friends and her children to come here for a while. Needless to say I haven't had a reply yet.

This better not be another Afghanistan type operation where they don't even read the emails.

@mum2jakie

He's amazing. Such stoicism and integrity. Absolutely pisses over our current leadership. Joker Johnson - you'd think he was the ex-comedian not the other way round. Wish I felt so inspired and proud of our own politicians.
Well said....Johnson should have stayed as occasional guest on Have I Got News For You.
Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 19:36

Yeah. £7.5 million worth of integrity. Or £50 million. Depending on how you count it.

You know how now everyone talks about WWI as being about a squabble between two sides of the same coin that working people died in for no reason?

Well, that. Without the tiktok, admittedly.

thebatman · 01/03/2022 19:38

There was a quote from someone on the News earlier, I didn't catch who it was that said it "when we run out of bullets we'll use our teeth" I just thought fuck me, I wish I were a tenth that brave.

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 19:46

It's almost like nobody has heard of the concept of propaganda.

JackieWeaver101 · 01/03/2022 19:46

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque

He is brave, charismatic and a true leader. Incredibly impressive.

(In passing, am amazed that anyone has swallowed the story that Johnson has been leading the way on sanctions!)

Those who vote for Johnson would fall for anything.

Anyone with more than two brain cells can see that Johnson is lying every time his lips move.

Cathy257 · 01/03/2022 19:48

Yes, I admire him. The kind of leadership we need here.

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 19:51

Dishonest, monied, simultaneously in hock to and in opposition against Russia?

Well, be happy. That's exactly the leadership we have.

MistOverTheDowns · 01/03/2022 19:53

Quite.

White paint and large brush spring to mind.

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 19:58

@MistOverTheDowns thank fuck some of us see it. Obvs Putin is a twat and de pfeffel, but Zelenskiy is too. Man of the people? How many of them do you know with multiple properties in Hyde Park Gardens?

MistOverTheDowns · 01/03/2022 20:07

I think quite a lot of people see it but are silenced pretty quickly, as this post will be!

He is a war monger too I'm afraid..even stoking the fire by applying to the EU right now.

It really is not the David and Goliath fight it is being out to be but it will be the people of the these warmongers who will pay the price.

I know this guy keeps saying he is at the top of the list to be assassinated. Well, who does he think it should be. Personally, if all the war lords were assassinated by each other that might not be a bad thing. One running around without a shirt on riding a horse and the other appearing with fist raised in one of his innumerable green army tee shirts. Purlease!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/03/2022 20:17

@Urbanisation Vladimir is that you? Regardless of what he's done in the past at the moment he is showing incredible bravery and that's what we're admiring...why do you assume we all want 'enlightening'?

musicalfrog · 01/03/2022 20:20

This is the thread I needed! God love mumsnet 🙌

Been harbouring a growing crush for a few days now (I knew I wouldn't be the only one) and this is the perfect outlet. The clips are amazing. No wonder Putin hates him, he's everything he's not!

Also, why is our TV nowhere near as fun as Ukrainian TV?

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 20:22

Lol exactly. He's spent the last decade securing his position and getting rid of anyone who pisses him off same as Putin. He is immeasurably rich and that doesn't come from hard work alone in Ukraine. They're squabbling over pipelines and money same as all the other men with clout in the region.

I have no doubt in his vaingloriousness, but then I have no doubt in Putin's either. It's the Slavic way. This guy just has better pr, for now. They've both bought up the Tories, London and by extension the UK. That's what we need to be thinking of.

MistOverTheDowns · 01/03/2022 20:22

His people are showing incredible bravery and do you really think if he is brave that should wipe the slate clean?

Fair enough if you do but it sets a dangerous precedent.

28birthdays · 01/03/2022 20:24

Jesus some people are so miserable and bitter. The Ukrainian president has shown incredible bravery and dedication to his country, the degree of which is incredibly rare.

Whatever you think of him on a personal level, the vast vast majority of us are in admiration of him and are incredibly impressed with how he has handled this.

He isn't a war mongerer ffs, he's nothing like Putin.

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 20:25

@MyGhastIsFlabbered I have no time for Putin either, obviously. He also secured power through closed elections via oligarch influence, same as Zelenskiy. Really there's not much between them. I guess at least Zelenskiy isn't threatening to nuke the world like some kind of crazed toddler but then well he can't, can he?

Urbanisation · 01/03/2022 20:28

@28birthdays what are you babbling on about? I have no personal beef with Zelenskiy. I've just been reading the papers, same as everyone else.

I admit I don't have tiktok though.

MistOverTheDowns · 01/03/2022 20:31

@28birthdays.

Do you find it incredible that his own peole were protesting about him a few months ago?

These things aren't black and white andmI'm guessing you don't follow Eastern European politics, as you might not find him quite so "incredible"

On a side note, please don't refer to people as miserable and bitter as if you were yelling at an opposing supporter in a football match.

Many of us are miserable about a war in which people are being killed and bitter that it has escalated with two men waving their cocks around.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/03/2022 20:31

I don't have any admiration for BoJo but IF (& it is a huge stretch of the imagination) he behaved in the same manner as the Ukrainian president then it wouldn't wipe the slate clean but it would change my views on him. Why is this so hard for those of you who seem to delight in assuming were hysterical women thinking only with our fannies?
