To think he should ask for scraps?,

DH called into our local chippy after work tonight, kindly bought me a bag of chips... yet no scraps (batter!).

He NEVER asks for scraps or claims they never have any...i mean is it even worth having chips without scraps on the top??

Aibu to LTB?

So as not to dripfeed... DH does not have scraps, salt nor vinegar on his chips...

When I was pregnant the local chippy used to make me a scrap butty with salt and vinegar on, no chips Blush

ilovepixie · 23/02/2022 22:22

Never heard of scraps!

oakleaffy · 23/02/2022 22:22

Liquor was a mystery in fish and chip shops as a kid
Never had it, but heard of it
So say a greenish sauce ( London)

Westerman · 23/02/2022 22:23

The scraps are more important than the chips! He just will not do!

LocalHobo · 23/02/2022 22:23

@Opti2021

Oooh I luuuurrrvvee scraps!

Is it really true that Southern chippies don't do gravy or curry Shock

Our southern Chip shop does curry sauce but not gravy.
Tsuni · 23/02/2022 22:24

What are scraps? Like the scrapings off the bottom of the fryer or something?

RosesAndHellebores · 23/02/2022 22:24

DH is a northerner and has never mentioned these.

Sometimes I am so glad to be a southerner.

If you want batter, why don't you just order a piece of fish? Honest question.

Shuffleuplove · 23/02/2022 22:25

Mmmm scraps and pea wet, with gravy you can slice. Proper dining out.

mydogisthebest · 23/02/2022 22:25

@JemimaTiggywinkle

I’m not that interested in scraps personally but cannot get over the fact that anyone could eat chips without salt and/or vinegar.
I eat chips without salt or vinegar. I hate the taste of salt and not that keen on vinegar either.

I want my chips to taste of chips

Tenaladytryouts · 23/02/2022 22:27

Scraps are better than the fish. Northerner living down South, our local plaice does them but you get some funny looks asking for them.
Salt & vinegar all the way.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 23/02/2022 22:27

@Fedupsotired

Scraps with loads of salt and vinegar is the food of gods
Amen
LucyfurMorningstar · 23/02/2022 22:28

Every Norfolk Chippy I've been in has known what 'crispy bits' were

Why the hell would they do gravy? Vile stuff and never in a million years do you have gravy on chips (I don't have gravy on any food).

I really don't get the northern obsession with gravy. Why don't you want your food to taste of whatever it is you are eating? Also why make everything soggy with gravy?

HotWaterAndLemon · 23/02/2022 22:30

Never heard of it but they look awfully oily in the picture Sad

Houseplantmad · 23/02/2022 22:30

I've never heard of them either [gets coat to head to chippie].

LondonJax · 23/02/2022 22:32

Born and bred in London, now living in Kent - we've always had scraps! And we have curry sauce and gravy in the chip shops where I've lived.

I didn't know some chip shops didn't do scraps - you live and learn.

Riseholme · 23/02/2022 22:34

While we’re talking chippys what exactly is a saveloy?

Lemonsandlemonade · 23/02/2022 22:35

Scraps is such a northern thing. I personally don’t like them. Runs to hide. 🙈

Thats the point...deep fried bits of batter.but they dry out beautifully then whack a load of salt and vinegar on... chefs kiss

Ooh where i am the only way to have a saveloy is in a saveloy dip!!

So its a red skinned pork sausage..served on a stottie (geordie type of bread bun) with stuffing, peasepudding and gravy... mmm

I grew up in Wales where we called them ‘batter bits.’ Used to get them all the time as a child but completely forgot they were an option and haven’t had them in decades.

User1isnotavailable · 23/02/2022 22:38

Scraps! What the heck.

@EssexLioness

Northerner moved down to the south many years ago. My biggest regret is that they don’t do scraps down here. Bloody love scraps!
Here in the SW they're called gribbles 🤤
Goldenbear · 23/02/2022 22:40

We don't have scraps at our local fish and chip shop but in the south again..We don't have gravy but do have have battered halloumi!
