To think he should ask for scraps?,

DH called into our local chippy after work tonight, kindly bought me a bag of chips... yet no scraps (batter!).

He NEVER asks for scraps or claims they never have any...i mean is it even worth having chips without scraps on the top??

Aibu to LTB?

So as not to dripfeed... DH does not have scraps, salt nor vinegar on his chips...

Some people aren't coming across very well at all on this thread. It's taken a bit of a turn. We are all different and all have different tastes, let's leave it at that shall we.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 25/02/2022 21:25

My local chippy is bloody lovely, not least because every time I go in, they bung me two free potato fritters. It's like a massive chip IN batter, thus combining the best of all things edible.

ChampagneLassie · 25/02/2022 21:30

Also had to Google.... I guess this must be a Northern thing, ive literally never heard this and I used to get fish and chips very regularly. It sounds gross though. Like why would you want this???

JellybabyGina87 · 25/02/2022 21:34

Yes most Liverpool chippies are Chinese run and serve Chinese meals. The only ones that don't are the ones on the seafront in nearby towns.

@mydogisthebest

We are staying in Birmingham this week and every evening we have been for a curry. Can't get over how just about everyone, but us, has chips with their curry and then dips the chips in it!

Northerners sure do have some strange eating habits

At least we know that Birmingham is in the midlands and not the north ....
userxx · 25/02/2022 21:58

@x2boys 🤣🤣🤣 unbelievable.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 25/02/2022 22:08

Back to the scraps...
My family was broken, one side called them bits, the other called them scraps so we called them "scraps and bits".

I've now passed this on to my family but we're lazy and now they're called "SnBs"

You should have called them scrips 😂

sadeyedlady that’s called a scallop near me in Lancashire and agree very nice.

Yorkshire fish and chips are just different taste, we go over border for a change sometimes.

Westmorland Fisheries in Skipton are excellent, people queue down the street. They only do haddock & fry in dripping. Homemade tartare sauce too.

To think he should ask for scraps?,
Yourinmyspot · 25/02/2022 23:06

I remember well being sent to the chip shop to get them for tea and my Dad always saying ‘make sure you get the scraps’.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/02/2022 23:56

I was proper shocked when I moved to that London and discovered a scallop wasn’t a deep fried battered potato.

MajesticallyAwkward · 26/02/2022 13:09

@JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam are you ok? Has this hit a nerve? It's lighthearted, no one actually cares that much about your bland, dry chips 😉

MajesticallyAwkward · 26/02/2022 13:11

Apologies @JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam, mistag that should have been @mydogisthebest

😳

Toddlerteaplease · 26/02/2022 13:12

I have never heard of scraps. Or had them either!

Round here we call them "bits", not scraps. As a kid I'd be sent to the chip shop for fish and chips twice, and a bag of bits, to split between four of us.

Also, Birmingham is not north. Obviously.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 26/02/2022 14:19

@Batshitcrazy007 I think you’re on the wrong thread, unless your DDs have requested batter scraps for the baby shower!

It might start a whole new trend ,a buffet containg just scraps 🤣

Batshitcrazy007 · 26/02/2022 16:07

Aww honestly 😂😂 god knows how I did that 🤦🏼‍♀️

1HappyTraveller · 03/03/2022 12:10

Not a fan of scraps.

But no salt or vinegar…????

Da fuk wrong with him?!?! 😳

20thCenturyGhosts · 03/03/2022 12:22

Had my first lot of scraps on a trip up to Whitby last month- game changer!

KatyRebecca84 · 03/03/2022 12:27

Are you the same poster who got upset when their husband didn't get them fish even though you didn't ask for it?!

JustLyra · 03/03/2022 12:40

Chip shop here has newish owners and they don’t do bits/scraps anymore.

They stopped doing gravy for a while, but they’ve brought that back after getting so many requests.

NicotineQueen223 · 03/03/2022 12:51

YANBU, I work in a chippy and always ask customers if they want scraps. They are the great love of my life Grin

Halllyup17 · 03/03/2022 13:28

God, I pick the batter off the fish. Scraps are just greasy, unnecessary disgustingness.
