DH called into our local chippy after work tonight, kindly bought me a bag of chips... yet no scraps (batter!).

He NEVER asks for scraps or claims they never have any...i mean is it even worth having chips without scraps on the top??

Aibu to LTB?

So as not to dripfeed... DH does not have scraps, salt nor vinegar on his chips...

Never heard of scraps! It’s bit of batter from the fish, as opposed to little bits of chips?

Southern, so that might be the reason.

Sounds nice though.

@JayAlfredPrufrock

This is why I feel sorry for Southerners.
I’m a northerner haha and scraps are definitely not given In any chippy round me
ABitOfAShitShow · 23/02/2022 21:31

Your husband is right here, I’m afraid. They’re gross. And I’m northern. Gravy though…I’m a good northerner when it comes to gravy.

nearlyspringyay · 23/02/2022 21:35

Spends where you are, they're not a thing here but we're when I lived in Scotland

Tiredmum100 · 23/02/2022 21:35

Never heard off this!!

MintyGreenDream · 23/02/2022 21:35

I rarely ask for them but it's a bonus if you get bits of fish in the scraps

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 23/02/2022 21:36

Russia is about to cause WW3, but you don’t have scrappy bits of leftover batter?

Yes!! Food of the gods! Ill be honest id happily just munch on a bag of scraps covered in salt n vinegar... NOT malt vinegar though...only "non brewed condiment" will suffice

The first time I got them (they or I didn't ask) I thought that had cooked the chips wrong 😂

Slowwormwiggle · 23/02/2022 21:39

I used to work in a fish and chips shop in the south and would always give people scraps when asked 😀 I live in the Midlands now and always ask for them.

Riapia · 23/02/2022 21:39

They’re called scrumps where I come from.

Are you suggesting if Putin had scraps as a child he would be a different person?

monkeysox · 23/02/2022 21:40

@Aprilx you can't be a real northerner if you've never had scraps.
Op yanbu ltb what's the point of chippy chips without scraps. And gravy and salt Smile

HarrietSchulenberg · 23/02/2022 21:41

My grandparents used to have a fish & chip shop and used to bag up the batter bits and sell them for pennies to kids. Funnily enough, their shop was very popular with the local youth.

My chippy only does batter bits if you ask for them. Can't put them on the menu in case there's not enough. They are bloody lovely.

MaryAndHerNet · 23/02/2022 21:41

I knew there were bad people in this world, but I never knew there were sickos that disliked scraps.

No wonder my misanthropy is growing you weird, disgusting, strange people...

"And low thee sayeth, feed they populace of scraps and on that day thou shalt rejoiceth" - The Bible... (of Chipperies of the north)

godmum56 · 23/02/2022 21:41

I live in the south and the local chippy does scraps
