To think some mnetters are deliberately obtuse

I’m not talking about those who English is a second language but words or phrases which are said by an OP, which may not be 100% clear, but by taking in the entire post, it’s clear what the OP means.

Some posters have to reply saying “xxx. What does xxx mean? I don’t understand”

When it’s cleared up, they have to return to say “oh. I only know it by it’s proper name yyy. I can’t bear people saying xxx”

OP posts:

What is clear to you might not be clear to someone else

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 21/02/2022 12:56

Yes sometimes people on MN and elsewhere are deliberately obtuse.
In other news, Bears apparently shit in woods.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/02/2022 12:58

If this is about me and the tangies, I genuinely didn't equate them with tangerines and thought the OP was talking about something similar to fruit winders.

Same. Why the "baby talk"? Just call them bloody tangerines!!!
Cheeseandlobster · 21/02/2022 13:01

I know what you mean op. Its like when someone in distress posts something like this. Obviously in a hurry...

Op "Can anyone help me please. My dh has physically assaulted me and locked me in the houde"

Obtuse poster "Houde? What do you mean house?"

It's obvious what the op is saying yet some people just love to correct others, even where its obviously inappropriate. I saw it on a thread recently with the second reply to a post. Some people are proper arseholes.

SalmonEile · 21/02/2022 13:04

Or someone will say hubby and the first 400 replies are “Yabu for saying hubby” and no other advice or comment on the OPs dilemma

This is AIBU.
Aderyn21 · 21/02/2022 13:07

Yes, there's wilful misunderstanding on some threads. Correcting someone's spelling or grammar on a thread where the OP is clearly in distress and snd asking for help is proper arsehole behaviour

CallMeMabel · 21/02/2022 13:07

I wouldn't have known what tangies were either. I also can't be doing with the baby talk!

incognitoforthisone · 21/02/2022 13:08

Mumsnet attracts far too many people who basically treat it like Mean Girls for middle-aged women. Some people seem to come here solely to look for things to critique, usually in a way that screams 'snob'.

Idontreplytotrolls · 21/02/2022 13:10

Op most of the people who post leading answers or questions are more or less easy to spot, unfortunately they think they are being clever and they could not be further from the truth.

I always sigh when i see some one ask a question or quote me like this because I already have a bloody good idea when they will come back with just to start an argument or attempt some cheap point scoring. As you say they never add to the conversation just sit and criticise thinking it makes them look clever.

OneTC · 21/02/2022 13:10

I'm sorry OP I don't really see what you mean? 🤔

Same here!
Featuredcreature · 21/02/2022 13:13

I agree, although I wonder if some people are just generally sheltered and not used to wider Internet lingo. Like when people assume that certain terms were invented by mumsnet.

Like when some peoples entire Internet experience is Facebook, they don't ever explore out of Facebook.

BrambleRoses · 21/02/2022 13:14

Oh yes, the I Do Not Understand —goady fuckers— posters.

‘Why on earth did you walk to work rather than get a taxi? I don’t understand! Confused

WTAF!! I'd never have got tangerines from tangies in a million years!

I do find some people don't realise that not everyone uses the same words for things though & just use their commonly used word thinking everyone will understand - I wouldn't post asking for advice on which baffies to buy because 99.99% of Mumsnet wouldn't have a clue what I was on about!

PrincessNutella · 21/02/2022 13:16

So "tangies" is not common British parlance I take it then.

What's your point?
SandAndSea · 21/02/2022 13:17

Some people are petty.

MintyFreshBreath · 21/02/2022 13:18

Is tangies with a hard ‘g’ or a soft ‘g’. Either way, it sound silly. But then, we heard someone refer to a Range Rover as a ‘Rangey’ the other day 😂 DH was pissing himself and the person who was with the pretentious snob who said ‘Rangey’ actually asked her what the hell she was talking about.

Yes, we were ear wigging.

I disagree - I think there aren't enough mean girls actually.
MaxCrashtappen · 21/02/2022 13:20

I can't get worked up about this op Wink

Aderyn21 · 21/02/2022 13:23

daim what do you mean by "so what?" That it's okay to be an arsehole to someone in distress?
