To think some mnetters are deliberately obtuse

I’m not talking about those who English is a second language but words or phrases which are said by an OP, which may not be 100% clear, but by taking in the entire post, it’s clear what the OP means.

Some posters have to reply saying “xxx. What does xxx mean? I don’t understand”

When it’s cleared up, they have to return to say “oh. I only know it by it’s proper name yyy. I can’t bear people saying xxx”

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 21/02/2022 17:27

@Thoosa. Yes, I agree with that. As long as you just explain to the man why you have an issue with the word 'girl', rather than pretend you think he's dating a child.

Thoosa · 21/02/2022 17:29

Oh yes completely agree @thecatneuterer

Performance incomprehension is just silly.

thecatneuterer · 21/02/2022 17:30

Performance incomprehension! Perfect description. Thank you for that phrase!

vulva pendants !

Can these be obtained from a specialist minge jeweller? A locket for the bit outside your socket.

Grin They had them in the vagina museum in Camden. And the matching ear rings too! Actually should it be called the vulva museum then?

@DickMabutt73962 Fanjo! One of the best things to come out of mumsnet. Along with Fanny Gallops, obviously. And the anal sex-Centerparcs link.

And of course ‘girl’ is a synonym for ‘woman’ in general conversation - and on threads where someone is distressed and the context is clear, ‘correcting’ it just makes the person responding look like a dick.

BearOfEasttown · 21/02/2022 17:54

@DickMabutt73962

I will never EVER call it a vulva. It's my fanny and that's it! I don't know ANYone in real life who says 'VULVA!'

Excuse me, it's a fanjo.

I'd never heard 'fanjo' before MN and I absolutely love it 😂

FANJO. I use that too. And occasionally FANNINGTON. Also, breasticals for or boobicles for my BREASTS Grin

Eww, I hate the word 'Breasts' and I don't know why! Confused

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2022 17:55

Well if you want an example of everyday sexism. In fact of the creepy Lolita trope writ large then, yes, it’s a good’un

Or 'Spice Women' just didn't have the same ring maybe? Grin Or 'Women Power'.

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2022 17:57

I had the misfortune of seeing a bit of 'Naked Attraction' last night Anna Richardson said to the man 'let's have a look at the vaginas'. I thought MN would just love this. Grin There would probably be 'crying and shaking' over it.

BearOfEasttown · 21/02/2022 18:04

@AuntieStella

Girl means female child, and it's very important establishing cases such as that exactly what it is the OP means. When someone has a sexual/romantic interest in children, it is a very serious matter.

Girl is not a synonym for woman, so you if you don't mean a child don't use the word for a child. It's not a 'normal' use at all, so is bound to lead to exactly the sort of concerns that get posted when the OP's choice of words is actually describing paedophilia

From a simple GOOGLE search...

definition of 'girl...'

/ɡəːl/

noun
1.

a female child.
"a six-year-old girl"

Similar:

female child
young person
youngster
teenager
adolescent
young woman
young lady
juvenile
minor
junior
student
schoolgirl
daughter
lass
lassie^
bairn^

a young or relatively young woman.

"I haven't got the time to meet girls"

Similar:

young woman
young lady
miss
lass
lassie
mademoiselle
signorina
señorita
Fräulein
babe
chick

SO the word GIRL means a female child, female teenager, OR woman.

HTH. Now stop with the nasty 'paedophilia' shit. It's making you look very silly, and is really offensive!

AND telling people to 'educate themselves,' and that they are embarrassed for them!

Stravaig · 21/02/2022 18:10

CecilyTheWake · 21/02/2022 18:12

Demands for diagrams for every bloody thread relating to neighbours or parking. Especially tone-deaf when the OP needs actual advice or is being harassed by a neighbour.

AuntieStella · 21/02/2022 18:14

It's not remotely nasty to clear up at the outset if someone is using an definition of 'girl' other than child or very young female.

It is just as widely held to be derogatory to refer to grown women as girls.

And where either meaning could apply, perhaps for clarity it's better to use terms in their normal meaning, ie female child/youth

AuntieStella · 21/02/2022 18:15

they are embarrassed for them!

I think that has to be one of the silliest comments, as the person making it is usually the one who looks a tit

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2022 18:18

Oh yes. The unnecessary calls for diagrams when it's not that difficult to understand. Do these people never read a book and use their imagination to picture a scene?
hangrylady · 21/02/2022 18:21

Yes, a lot of Petty Betties on here. I imagine correcting others makes them feel superior when in reality they just sound like dicks.

I meant “baby spice”. Is the photo not showing up for you?
RampantIvy · 21/02/2022 18:23

It's usually obvious if something is a typo. I'm not the best typist either so I would never pull someone up on that, but there was a thread recently about someone being jell, and I genuinely didn't know what they meant and neither did most other posters.

Then there are dialect words that I sometimes don't understand. It took me a couple of threads to realise that jag is jab, but I just kept quiet on those.

Stravaig · 21/02/2022 18:24

Going to disagree about drawings! There's a wonderful folklore creature artist's sketch developing on another thread ...

squishee · 21/02/2022 18:26

Remember Vajazzles?

Should that show be called The Vulva Monologues?

CarrieMoonbeams · 21/02/2022 18:31

I worked with someone who phoned in sick because she had, and I quote, "a nippy woowoo". Our male boss didn't have a clue what she was talking about, unsurprisingly.

I haven't either. Nippy? Doesn't that mean cold?

I don’t have a scoobie either, TBH.
