To of used my clients loo?

Name changed because this is probably quite outing and I don’t want it linked to my previous posts!
So I’m a cleaner, yesterday I was at a new-ish clients house, she’s got a big home so she’s booked me for 3 hours each time, just before I cleaned her bathrooms I said “oh do you mind if I quickly use your loo before I clean” and she said “hmmm this once but don’t make a habit of it, it’s not very professional”. I did go, because I was desperate but I feel mortified, upset and embarrassed. It’s never even occurred to me that this would be considered unprofessional?! The lady who does my hair, and the one who does my nails comes to my house and they use my loo and I’ve never given it a second thought?!
I ALWAYS use the toilet before I leave my house in the mornings to try and avoid needing to go at clients homes but sometimes I can do 2 cleans before I have my lunch break (4-5 hours plus travel time) and if I’m drinking water to keep my hydrated it’s inevitable I will need the toilet at some point. I know I’m a grown adult and I should of held it and should be able to control my bladder (which I can) but I was desperate and holding it would of made me uncomfortable. Am I being unreasonable?! I’m not sure, does anyone have any tips to avoid a situation like this in the future?

YABU - of course you shouldn’t use your clients toilets!
YANBU - you can’t help needing the loo and should be able to go at a clients house if you really need

What an awful snob. I have no idea if my cleaner uses the loo when she’s at mine, I’m not in, but I hope she does if she needs to!

I’d be very tempted to dump her and let her know exactly why. But I know word of mouth etc etc so I’d just find another excuse and get rid.

MayMorris · 19/02/2022 13:08

Oh, and once my neighbours mum knocked on my door and asked if she could use the loo. Her daughter had fallen asleep and didn’t hear her knocking. Never met the mum before, but knew my neighbour and she was clearly spit image of her daughter and gave me all details so I knew who she was. I was fine…poor women was so embarrassed …clearly very desperate…anyway needed up staying for a cuppa while she tried to raise her daughter form the dead🤣🤣🤣

Aweefatcat · 19/02/2022 13:09

I’d be horrified if the cleaners who clean our house even had to think about asking us to use the loo. I would expect them to just use it if they needed it.

Lovemydoggie · 19/02/2022 13:11

@viques

Next time just piss in her shower.
This and don’t clean it afterwards!!
KeepingAnOpenMind · 19/02/2022 13:11

I hope you stop working for this snobbish repulsive woman

WomanStanleyWoman · 19/02/2022 13:12

She’s bonkers. What’s she worried about - that you’ll leave it dirty? Has she not twigged what you do for a living?

Ugali · 19/02/2022 13:12

I'd ditch her as a client tbh, she's a total snob.

Bromse · 19/02/2022 13:13

I don't think you did anything wrong; you asked. If you were cleaning the 'loo' and flushed it, which you would, she would not have known whether you used it or not. The woman was being unnecessary 'sniffy', wanting to assert her authority. Next time, don't ask.

FantasticFebruary · 19/02/2022 13:14

It wouldn't have even crossed my mind to ask! I'd just have used it. Totally different if it wasn't a room you'd otherwise go into, so I'd ask if I was there to quote for new carpets etc.

She is going to be a living nightmare.

I'd message her to say I wouldn't be back.

There's no shortage of people wanting hood cleaners, people like her don't deserve them!!

starfishmummy · 19/02/2022 13:15

@MrsLargeEmbodied

as a community carer i occasionally had to use client's loos, most were fine, 99%, but one was very snooty, if you must, but she was snooty anyway
I used to gonto a group that met in a church hall. Often when we were there a young woman would sheepishly pop in and ask if she could use the loo. After a while we got chatting and it turned out she was a carer and the client objected.
Heytheredemons · 19/02/2022 13:15

The client is insane and if you could afford to, I'd drop them as a client and fill your time with someone more pleasant.
My cleaner had access to drinks and the loo when she used to come, as I expect to have when I go into my office.
If you invite people into your house, especially for 3 hours, you have to expect them to need the loo.
What sort of batshit, crazy person would not allow someone they'd invited to their home access to a toilet, especially when you are employing them. its as bad as the people on here that clutch their pearls over builders and workmen needing the loo ir a drink.

Bromse · 19/02/2022 13:16

@Aweefatcat

Quite right too. Honestly, some people amaze me. It beggars belief how can refuse the use of a lavatory to someone who is working for them.
BunsyGirl · 19/02/2022 13:16

I wouldn’t clean for her anymore and I would tell her why. My cleaner uses the loo as does anyone else who comes to work at my house; tradespeople, eyelash lady, my son’s tutor….

CaliFrown · 19/02/2022 13:16

That's awful, OP. When I had a cleaner (and a job to pay for it), she not only used the loo but also helped herself to tea and coffee and biscuits! I regarded her as a friend.

Notimeforaname · 19/02/2022 13:16

Cleaninglady47 She's a fucking lunatic !

If you dont desperately need that job from her I would tell her you're not coming back as you need a bathroom available at work like everyone fucking else!! Hmm

She's the one who ought to feel embarrassed. Not you.

IsItTooHotInHere · 19/02/2022 13:17

YANBU, she's a stuck-up bitch.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/02/2022 13:18

My cleaners never asked. I know they use my loo if they need to. Including if the loo has already been cleaned. It’s a basic human function.

Cam2020 · 19/02/2022 13:18

What a bizarre reaction! She sounds awful.

billy1966 · 19/02/2022 13:20

@Chloemol

YANBU. She’s a twat and I would be careful she sounds like the type to take advantage

I would be looking to find someone else to clean for and dump her

This.

Get a new slot and dump her last minute.

Unnecessarily unkind.

mam0918 · 19/02/2022 13:20

I suppose breathing is unprofessional too... can't be having those involuntary bodily functions like your heart beating or your kidneys filtering.

I mean I would get it if you were a random workman who took off for an hour to play angry birds on the throne and left skiddies down the bowl but a pee in a toilet you about to clean for her lol.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 19/02/2022 13:20

She sounds like a nightmare client who will bring other headaches. I don't like using my clients' toilets but needs must and if they ever thought to refuse I would just leave them without my services!

SeaToSki · 19/02/2022 13:20

My cleaners can use the loo and often do. They also heat their lunch up in my microwave so they can have it hot, and on nice days they even sit on my garden furniture and eat it before they go on to their next job (shock horror). They dont like to stay and eat inside on rainy days, but that is their choice.

Cleaninglady47 · 19/02/2022 13:21

Thank you everyone for your kind replies, I feel much more at ease now knowing that I wasn’t in the wrong. I’ve only cleaned for her 3 weeks and I do have a small waiting list so I’ve decided I won’t be going back. I’ve just drafted this message to her, does everyone think this is ok?

Hi Barbara (not real name) unfortunately I will no longer be able to clean your home, I don’t feel like we are a good fit for each other and possibly you have different expectations to myself to what you want in a cleaner? I must say, your comment about me using your loo made me feel like a naughty 5 year old and has baffled me a bit as I’m only human with a normal working bladder. I wish you all the best and hope you find a new cleaner who is a much better fit for you. Many thanks, cleaninglady47

Justanotherobserver · 19/02/2022 13:22

That's outrageous, YANBU. Where does she expect you to go, under a bush in the garden?

I agree with others, you don't want clients like this. Bin her off and take on someone reasonable, who understands that the vast majority of people need to urinate every few hours.

Anniegetyourgun76 · 19/02/2022 13:22

I wouldn't go back if I were you, tell her it's unprofessional and illegal for employer's to not provide basic facilities.
