To of used my clients loo?

Name changed because this is probably quite outing and I don’t want it linked to my previous posts!
So I’m a cleaner, yesterday I was at a new-ish clients house, she’s got a big home so she’s booked me for 3 hours each time, just before I cleaned her bathrooms I said “oh do you mind if I quickly use your loo before I clean” and she said “hmmm this once but don’t make a habit of it, it’s not very professional”. I did go, because I was desperate but I feel mortified, upset and embarrassed. It’s never even occurred to me that this would be considered unprofessional?! The lady who does my hair, and the one who does my nails comes to my house and they use my loo and I’ve never given it a second thought?!
I ALWAYS use the toilet before I leave my house in the mornings to try and avoid needing to go at clients homes but sometimes I can do 2 cleans before I have my lunch break (4-5 hours plus travel time) and if I’m drinking water to keep my hydrated it’s inevitable I will need the toilet at some point. I know I’m a grown adult and I should of held it and should be able to control my bladder (which I can) but I was desperate and holding it would of made me uncomfortable. Am I being unreasonable?! I’m not sure, does anyone have any tips to avoid a situation like this in the future?

YABU - of course you shouldn’t use your clients toilets!
YANBU - you can’t help needing the loo and should be able to go at a clients house if you really need

She's batshit.

Also - she's shown you what sort of person she is. Believe her.

Sockpile · 19/02/2022 12:53

She’s ridiculous, of course it should be fine for you to use.

Enidcat5 · 19/02/2022 12:54

Wtaf!?!? What a snotty person! You're a human being who needs the toilet just like her.

AtillatheHun · 19/02/2022 12:54

That’s really not a client you want. If that’s her opening, imagine what it will become. Run.

MadisonAvenue · 19/02/2022 12:54

She sounds awful.
If you can afford to drop her as a client then I would if I were you.

DropYourSword · 19/02/2022 12:54

She sounds like that twat from The Help.

Honestly, a comment like that would make me not want to return. Stuff her!

Simonjt · 19/02/2022 12:54

When my cleaner is here our home is his place of work, so him using the toilet is no different to an office worker, nurse etc using the toilet in their place of work.

Onlywomengivebirth · 19/02/2022 12:54

Really odd!

My (male) cleaner used mine yesterday. He didn’t ask, and I wouldn’t have expected him to. But he did do that male thing of pissing directly into the water with (seemingly) the power and stream of a racehorse. Which is why I knew he was using the loo….from 3 rooms away. Why? Are they just proud?

sorryforswearing · 19/02/2022 12:54

Ridiculous woman. You are not unprofessional. You’re human.

sadpapercourtesan · 19/02/2022 12:55

She's likely to utilise every opportunity to treat you like a servant, OP. I wouldn't go back if I were you.

AnotherSillawithanS · 19/02/2022 12:55

Honestly, I think YABU for not having done a massive shit.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/02/2022 12:56

I would ditch her. She sounds like she will be a nightmare.

My cleaner has never asked to use the loo. I'm pretty sure she uses it (she's here for 5 hours) but I would be horrified if she thought she shouldn't use it.

I've had a good few cleaners over the years. None of them have ever asked but have presumably used it. Going forward, I would just use it if you need it.

MatildaTheCat · 19/02/2022 12:58

Just wee on her bedroom carpet next time.

PrawnDrench · 19/02/2022 12:58

@sadpapercourtesan

Agreed. On top of that you were planning to clean everything after using the loo, so it’s not like you left it in a mess, and she still has to make a comment.
lucillelarusso · 19/02/2022 12:59

The ideal response would have been "I find using the toilet more professional than shitting myself"

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 12:59

Jesus Christ. This woman is AWFUL. Of course you can use the loo as often as you want. I have had cleaners for 20 years and I wouldn’t expect them to even ask - when they are here my house is their workplace!

Can you get shot of her?!

Chestofdraws · 19/02/2022 12:59

That’s crazy. It’s your place of work. Of course you should be able to use the loo. I can’t imagine what’s wrong with her.

My cleaner uses the loo, I’d be horrified if she asked permission. She just uses it as she pleases.

HollowTalk · 19/02/2022 13:00

Would she say that to a client at work? Would you say it's not very professional to want to go to the loo?

ParalysisByAnalysis · 19/02/2022 13:00

Cleaners are not employees of the people who hire them!

I hate letting strangers use my toilet because invariably they leave it fucking stinking and it makes me feel sick.

But I’m not a colossal dick so I would never actually not let someone use my toilet.

fairislecable · 19/02/2022 13:00

Leave her a copy of The Help, she might recognise herself in it.Grin

Livedandlearned · 19/02/2022 13:01

I wouldn't keep her. I cleaned for years and people like this aren't worth your time.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/02/2022 13:02

as a community carer i occasionally had to use client's loos, most were fine, 99%, but one was very snooty, if you must,
but she was snooty anyway

MayMorris · 19/02/2022 13:05

Not being able to have access to loos is a major issue for low paid. People just don’t get that you don’t have a toilet in your car or van 🙄🤦‍♀️.
During covid I’d ask the delivery drivers I’d see regularly if they need per the loo as I knew many of places they’d used previously were closed. Quite a few seemed very grateful and relieved. Yep, I didn’t like cleaning up after them but it seemed a small humane gesture.
I always show workman where the loo is …don’t wait for them to ask….and again I don’t line it particularly when they do as I am a bit OCD about toilets ( live on my own so don’t now normally have to contend with male habits) but it recognises that they are human and saves embarrassment of them asking.

CagneyNYPD1 · 19/02/2022 13:06

Yep, she is very happy for you to clean her toilet but you are not allowed to use it. Ti's tells you all you need to know about ti's new client. Bin her.

Where I live, good cleaners are like gold dust. Which means that people treat and pay their cleaners well. As they should.

viques · 19/02/2022 13:08

Next time just piss in her shower.
