To of used my clients loo?

Name changed because this is probably quite outing and I don’t want it linked to my previous posts!
So I’m a cleaner, yesterday I was at a new-ish clients house, she’s got a big home so she’s booked me for 3 hours each time, just before I cleaned her bathrooms I said “oh do you mind if I quickly use your loo before I clean” and she said “hmmm this once but don’t make a habit of it, it’s not very professional”. I did go, because I was desperate but I feel mortified, upset and embarrassed. It’s never even occurred to me that this would be considered unprofessional?! The lady who does my hair, and the one who does my nails comes to my house and they use my loo and I’ve never given it a second thought?!
I ALWAYS use the toilet before I leave my house in the mornings to try and avoid needing to go at clients homes but sometimes I can do 2 cleans before I have my lunch break (4-5 hours plus travel time) and if I’m drinking water to keep my hydrated it’s inevitable I will need the toilet at some point. I know I’m a grown adult and I should of held it and should be able to control my bladder (which I can) but I was desperate and holding it would of made me uncomfortable. Am I being unreasonable?! I’m not sure, does anyone have any tips to avoid a situation like this in the future?

YABU - of course you shouldn’t use your clients toilets!
YANBU - you can’t help needing the loo and should be able to go at a clients house if you really need

I’m a bit late to this but omg she’s outrageous saying that! Glad you have sent her that message! Anyone who comes to our house - builder, cleaner, friend - may use our toilet if they need to. Sometimes I wince if I think the sink needs a clean, but of course they may go to the toilet without me embarrassing them like an absolute arse!

@BoredZelda

Lovely to see all the misogynistic language about the client on this thread. 🙄
She’s a woman; she’s horrible… I don’t see the issue.

Have you read "The Help"?

I wouldn't expect someone in my house for 3 hours NOT to use the loo especially if it will be cleaned afterwards?

I'll revise my description of her to 'wanker' if it makes you feel better? Hmm

My husband is an electrician, he is never asked if he wants a drink or told that he can use the facilities.

I must admit I've never told anyone they can use the facilities, I always just assumed that anyone in my house needing the toilet would just go or at the very most ask me where it was, I certainly wouldn't expect people to ask permission.

EerieSilence · 21/02/2022 13:48

She's a stuck up obnoxious snotty cunt.

Lemonyfuckit · 21/02/2022 13:48

YANBU and she is horrible.
Interviewing someone this afternoon to get a cleaner for the first time - wouldn't have crossed my mind to have an issue with them using the loo whilst here.

That's terrible. I normally have the kettle on in the first two minutes and it wouldn't cross my mind to require permission to use the toilet.

Will make a point of saying please don't feel you need to ask in future.

Flowersandhearts · 21/02/2022 15:55

I feel really sorry for you for that, especially given that you were just about to clean it anyway.

I have severe OCD and always desperately hope that any workmen who visit don't use our loo and might well ask them to go to a public toilet, which I realise makes me a terrible human being. I am genuinely worried about getting sick from other people though, especially if they might have sat on public toilets and then transfer germs to my loo.

Flowersandhearts · 21/02/2022 15:57

All that said, if I was working for that lady, I would lose her as a client.

girlmom21 · 21/02/2022 16:11

@Flowersandhearts presumably you wouldn't hire a cleaner though either?

No, you're right, I definitely wouldn't hire anyone to come into my house unnecessarily or expect anyone to go for 3 hours without using the loo.
