To be surprised at the number of grown men into lego

A couple of years ago I was moaning that I had no idea what to buy DH (40) for Christmas. Three men who sit near me immediately suggested a Lego millennium Falcon. I asked DH if he would like this (it’s expensive!) and his eyes lit up. Since then for most birthdays and Christmas I have bought more Lego kits for him (including a home alone one this year!)

Since WFH due to COVID I see into everyone’s home study in zoom calls; and loads of the men in their 30s and 40s have loads of Lego on display; particularly of the Star Wars variety!

Aibi to be so surprised at the number of men Who are so into Lego?

@littlebilliie

It's really a 3d jigsaw
This! It's very satisfying doing a jigsaw from time to time, like an utterly pointless premade craft. This is just more of the same.

I'm 36 and female. I love lego. Just managed to finish the lovebirds set DH got me for valentines day (when ds naps).

ThatsNotMyGolem · 19/02/2022 07:34

My DH loves Lego! If I'm stuck for a present to buy him, I always get him a set.

balalake · 19/02/2022 07:48

Surprised yes, but isn't it something to be happy about? Simple fun, a joy that can be shared with children, an all weather activity.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 19/02/2022 07:49

I have had quite a few Lego sets. I find them great for mindfulness - they’re something I have to concentrate on so I switch off from anything else which might otherwise be swirling around in my head.

Chikapu · 19/02/2022 07:51

I bloody love Lego and have loads of it. My Scooby Doo sets are my pride and joy!!

LightfoldEngines · 19/02/2022 08:11

I’m 35, female and love LEGO.

Recently bought the Sonic set for myself Grin

SisyphusDad · 19/02/2022 08:30

@burnoutbabe

The bonsai tree is brilliant! I spent far more than the set itself cost on Lego lighting for it, and now in the evenings it twinkles away for me. Pure pleasure and no calories. Smile

We currently have a beautiful Mini, a huge truck, and various Star Wars pieces on the shelves belonging to my adult son... he's emigrated and his collection is growing there now!

I REALLY want the lego grand piano that actually plays music... but can't afford it! We have all my lego from childhood, all my kids lego and will add more as my grandson grows.. best 'toy' ever!

Butchyrestingface · 19/02/2022 08:52

I'm female. 40s. I ❤️ my lego. A lego millennium Falcon would be the ultimate present.

Fernie6491 · 19/02/2022 09:07

I hope everyone is watching the Australian Legomasters on Channel 4 at the moment. It's nearly over now but has been brilliant!

We love watching it - the inventiveness is awesome! And the host Hamish is great fun.

ParalysisByAnalysis · 19/02/2022 09:08

Man I love Lego. I also enjoy a jigsaw and a cross stitch.

I’d much rather be with a man who likes Lego than one who plays computer games.

NudieUnderTheOodie · 19/02/2022 11:38

Lego is timeless! My 5yo DS is currently playing with duplo that I got for my third birthday almost 33 years ago.

I'm thinking of collecting some of the Harry Potter sets over the next 10 months or so for Christmas this year. My sister got the original Harry Potter castle when it came out 20+ years ago and were still gutted it got lost/given away at some point.

Animum2 · 19/02/2022 11:47

I myself have lego kits and various assorted bricks. Also DH has his own lego transformers

Chely · 19/02/2022 11:49

I like to build lego sets with the kids, I wouldn't ask for my own but I get why so many men love it.

Spidey66 · 19/02/2022 12:13

I'm 55 and while I'm not into Lego, I love colouring books. Both can be more intricate for adults. I can't draw to save my life, so colouring is my way of being arty.

Aweefatcat · 19/02/2022 12:20

I do like the very occasional colouring book!
@BearOfEasttown I’m very sorry that I’ve upset you.

I am genuinely surprised though about how popular it is. The amount of colleagues (always been male colleagues) who have Lego in the background is just very surprising to me. I hadn’t realised it was such a mainstream thing that sooo many men do it (if it was just one or two I wouldn’t have thought much of it)
It's not just men though.
Both my Dd 24 and me 60 love Lego, DS is 26 and still gets some for birthday,Xmas as well. DH is the only one who isn't interested , he is a keen photographer

Moonface123 · 02/03/2022 08:12

Its all good, anything creative is a positive thing, worse thing you can do as an adult is limit yourself from enjoying stuff because of your age.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 02/03/2022 08:23

My granddad was gutted when he had to stop playing with it on his 100th birthday.

CHIRIBAYA · 02/03/2022 08:40

Being an adult means endless demands and responsibility. We should play whenever and however we can. I imagine it also helps enter flow state, which is great for healthy brain functioning and restoring inner calm.

Legoisthebest · 02/03/2022 08:53

Golem on my 100th birthday they're gonna have to fight me for my lego. I will give it my best. But I will be 100 and my best might be a bit feeble Grin

Thirkettle · 02/03/2022 08:54

And women too.

Doing what you love and having fun is important. I think modern generations know that.

OfstedOffred · 02/03/2022 08:58

I love lego. Not just specific sets though, I like generic bricks/creative building.

Sn0tnose · 02/03/2022 09:06

Our bedroom is the only room in the house, other than the bathroom, that doesn't have Lego in it!

Lucky you. I currently have R2D2 and Betrayal at Cloud City, plus a tub with an ongoing Ewok village build blocking access to my wardrobe!
