To be surprised at the number of grown men into lego

A couple of years ago I was moaning that I had no idea what to buy DH (40) for Christmas. Three men who sit near me immediately suggested a Lego millennium Falcon. I asked DH if he would like this (it’s expensive!) and his eyes lit up. Since then for most birthdays and Christmas I have bought more Lego kits for him (including a home alone one this year!)

Since WFH due to COVID I see into everyone’s home study in zoom calls; and loads of the men in their 30s and 40s have loads of Lego on display; particularly of the Star Wars variety!

Aibi to be so surprised at the number of men Who are so into Lego?

I don’t enjoy Lego myself but I am very much relieved that DP is as it means there is always something to buy him. Last October I bought him the Stranger Things Upside Down World set and I was so pleased I bought it early as Lego retired it before Christmas. The value then shot up!

I really like the look of the old fashioned typewriter - might buy that for DP next.

I have a nephew who packed in his web design business to run a lego based business. He is very happy with it too.

lego is a great toy for anyone! You’re never too old.

@Wishihadanalgorithm

Really?? They retired it? I was going to get it done DH at some point!

also @bruffin i got the van Gough set this weekend. I had to use my VIP card (Lego points card, easy to get one) because they weren't on general sale. They are flying off the shelves and i wonder if they will become scarce soon? so if you're dropping hints about getting one for your birthday - drop them loudly!

I can't wait for my kids to be older and really get into Lego, I have visions of afternoons spent with the magic kingdom castle and hogwarts- the one that comes in sections and you link together. The youngest is 18 months so too young to allow us any free time and evening are spent flaked on the couch. But the idea of having the freedom of an evening to have a glass of wine and build something without someone wrecking it sounds like bliss.

Thanks Brefugee,
I think i have a VIP card but my birthday is not until September Sad I will have to buy it myself. They are already on ebay for £200 . I have heavily hinted to DH this morning!

I’m buying now - you have all talked me into it!

Like videogames, things that were once seen as children-only have been around long enough that current adults liked them as children, so that preception doesn't apply. As ways to wind-down you could do far worse than Lego.

MaitlandGirl · 31/05/2022 09:40

@JaceLancs I got the hotel for Mothers Day. I love it ❤️

It was a much more enjoyable build than the blue Vespa, nearly chucked that bloody thing out of the window!!

JaceLancs · 31/05/2022 13:13

@MaitlandGirl
I looked at the VW camper and wondered the same
My worst so far was the Taj Mahal - took me ages to take apart them have passed to DD when she’s finished it - will sell on eBay 😉

I play on my ps4, my favorite games are the lego ones, currently playing the new star wars one!
