To be surprised at the number of grown men into lego

A couple of years ago I was moaning that I had no idea what to buy DH (40) for Christmas. Three men who sit near me immediately suggested a Lego millennium Falcon. I asked DH if he would like this (it’s expensive!) and his eyes lit up. Since then for most birthdays and Christmas I have bought more Lego kits for him (including a home alone one this year!)

Since WFH due to COVID I see into everyone’s home study in zoom calls; and loads of the men in their 30s and 40s have loads of Lego on display; particularly of the Star Wars variety!

Aibi to be so surprised at the number of men Who are so into Lego?

Where I live there's a lego club that was originally set up for kids...... Fair to say the number of adults who now attend outnumber the kids they used to get their foot in the door Grin

Lovemydoggie · 18/02/2022 23:28

My husband always made a beeline for the kids Lego ..you cannot argue with nature 😂

Rainbowshit · 18/02/2022 23:28

I spent two days lost in building a ship about 15 years ago.

So relaxing.
So enjoyable.

A 55 year old friend of mine loves building with her daughter.

A great shared hobby.

It is incredible for totally zoning out on the world.

YABU for thinking it is only adult men in to Lego. I am 59 and love it. DH got me the White House for Christmas. Oh and he does love it too. This year I got him space shuttle Discovery (with Hubble Telescope) and in previous years he ha had Saturn V, the Apollo landing and the International Space Station.

I guess we are a Lego family because 20 something adult DD also loves it. She got Taj Mahal this year.

Basically Lego transcends age and gender. You are missing out OP if you haven't connected with it yet

A great shared hobby.

Mind you I disagree with this. I am struggling to see how you could share it. As with jigsaws I think trying to share will lead to falling out. I don't think I could share Lego!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 19/02/2022 01:03

I love Lego!!! Which I totally didn't know or expect until my DC got their first set. It's really fun and relaxing

OnlyTheBravest · 19/02/2022 01:04

I love Lego sets. Currently making the 4000+ piece tower bridge. So excited for this weekend!

PrisonerofZeroCovid · 19/02/2022 01:06

I quite enjoy it. It's a bit like jigsaw puzzles- just very absorbing and strangely satisfying to have it all fit together.

ISpyCobraKai · 19/02/2022 01:09

I treated my adult daughter and her partner to the Lego Death Star last year.
They like it, and they could have worse pastimes.

Wafflesnsniffles · 19/02/2022 01:09

Lego is awesome. Lots of adult women love it too........... not just men!

19lottie82 · 19/02/2022 01:13

I’m currently building the N64 Mario Cube 😁

Ladyrattles · 19/02/2022 01:14

I'm an older lady and I have built Lego & a glass container full of bricks on my desk. My kids 18-22 think it's childish but I love it. I have lots of different things from minecraft to Star Wars.

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 19/02/2022 01:16

I'm an adult woman into Lego. Totally normal hobby Grin

ConsuelaHammock · 19/02/2022 01:19

I got the Lego Bird of paradise plant set for Xmas . I already had the flowers. Lego is ingenious.

garlictwist · 19/02/2022 01:19

We were given a small Lego kit for Christmas by one of DPs clients. It wasn't even aimed at adults but I had a go and found it actually quite difficult and rather absorbing.

I think the millennium Falcon would be hugely beyond my capabilities or patience but I see why people get into it.

ladydimitrescu · 19/02/2022 01:22

My mum is an avid Lego collector! For her big milestone bday last year I bought her the Lego haunted house - best £225 I've ever spent. She was absolutely overjoyed.

ConsuelaHammock · 19/02/2022 01:24

The minifigures series are lovely. They can very artistic if framed well. The monochrome ones are especially pleasing.

If you go to the Lego shows there are usually loads of afols displaying their own Lego creations.

Bubbublish · 19/02/2022 01:44

Lego is a great toy, fun for everyone

DdraigGoch · 19/02/2022 01:54

@DanielRicciardosSmile

Didn't lego used to have something like "Ages 8-98" on their packaging?
Must be a lot of disappointed centenarians
BookFiend4Life · 19/02/2022 05:06

I'm a woman and I'm very into Lego. I like to free play though, once my husband gets a hold of the kit he builds it according to the directions and then I'm not allowed to take it apart.

Rowgtfc72 · 19/02/2022 06:56

Dh is into the technic. He got the massive bulldozer for Christmas. We have all the heavy machinery and the landrover, bugatti and Lamborghini. Bit gutted that they've delayed this year's biannual car set.
If it doesn't have 5000 pieces he's not interested.
I usually buy him a big kit at Christmas. It means I get control of the TV remote for the day!
Bricklink you say?
