Our 10ft garden brick wall is now missing about 4ft gone just a huge pile of bricks now.

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/02/2022 18:08

I have to go out with the dogs, or they will be next door. We don't get on with them, so check if they let their dog out 1st. Still gusty and everything still rattling.

Hellokittyninja · 18/02/2022 18:08

No power here since midday and still off.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 18/02/2022 18:09

@secretkeeper1 Bradford. It was windy this morning and by midday had gotten really bad with heavy rain and wind. Was soaked picking DD up from school Grin It's been sleeting since midday too.

How strange, I’m not far away and it’s been ok til just after 3pm. Kids got back from school a bit windswept but dry! Windy now, but not as bad as the other night.

Witchinthedales · 18/02/2022 18:17

You are absolutely correct, the army were even called in where I live, some people were still powerless after 3 weeks. Food vans had to be brought in so people could have hot meals. I'm sorry for anyone suffering the effects of these storms wherever they are so not having a go about that but the news stations really do change their tone when the South is affected. We were lucky to make a very small clip on our regional news.

SoupDragon · 18/02/2022 18:17

I've just walked my dog and the area seems to have been very lucky - just twig/v small branch debris everywhere.

Onairjunkie · 18/02/2022 18:18

I'm amazed the horses are not bothered! Unlike our 14 month Doberman who is very upset at her walks being so blowy!

They were very bothered earlier. Lots of herd galloping around. I was really worried we’d get a lot of injuries but we just have one who’s lame. He’s an old boy.

They’re all warm now and have hay and them bothering to look out of the door is about as bothered as they get once they’re in. I think they’re probably quite exhausted, too.

The dogs have gone daft in the wind if it blows up their bottoms or in their ears.

Witchinthedales · 18/02/2022 18:22

Sorry, that was in reply to @HufflepuffPride

I'm glad they're happy now!

Three deaths reported so far. But it’s just media hype so they dont count according to some.

BABAHOTEL · 18/02/2022 18:32

Just been messaged by my boss, lady killed in the next road to his by a falling tree!

Still think it's an over hype @GirlInACountrySong ?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/02/2022 18:44

For all their inherent dimness, the TwatCats do have some common sense.

I opened the door for them to inspect the outer territory at lunchtime just before it all kicked off and they stayed resolutely on the kitchen side, sniffed a bit and then promptly fucked off back to the sofa where they belong.

I also think quite a lot more people might have been killed if there were more people out and about and there had been no 'overblown' warnings for people to stay home.

People trying to avoid disasters can't win. If we hadn't been told to stay at home, we'd be (rightly) furious as I'm certain more people would have been killed. As it is, the fact that there have been 'only' a few deaths has become something to point to and say ' see we could have just gone about our business and it would have been fine, it was all a fuss over nothing'.

I am just waiting for the ' We just have to live with falling trees and flying roof slates, it shouldn't stop us going about our business. What kind of life is it, if we are cowering in terror because trees are falling down around our heads? Everyone dies at some point, we just need to live with it and not make a fuss'

I think I've heard that argument before somewhere as well

BuddhaForMary · 18/02/2022 19:07

Dogs are flatly refusing to go out, and I don't blame them. It's absolutely vile. Wind sounds like thunder down the chimney.

MrsTrumpton · 18/02/2022 19:19

Just heard one of the deaths happened in our borough late this afternoon, a young woman in her 30s hit by a tree as she was driving along. Trees are down everywhere here, including one on our street. Anyone who thinks this storm is no big deal and that the coverage is media hyped in favour of London really needs to go f*ck themselves tonight.

Are you N10?
OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 19:23

Bumbling makes a very good point. It is precisely because of the warnings, school closures and people staying at home that the number of fatalities is lower than it might be.

This storm occurred right through the day, across some of the most populated parts of the UK. Of course it was dangerous.

It did not start later than forecast. It fell very much within computer modelling. It start in the SW, whwre the first red warning was issued yesterday before crossing north eastwards.

Red warnings are very rare and only issued when there is substantial risk to life. To have 3 within one season, is, I think unprecedented or close to.

Some people on this thread will undoubtedly be unable to comprehend what I have just written. That is sad for them.

Bollocks to this – we're in London and we read and watched coverage of the Army going in to help people while the power was out for weeks. It's disingenuous to say it was largely ignored by the media. I'm so tired of the MN 'the south gets more attention than us, boo hoo' narrative. London is the bloody CAPITAL CITY of the country. It can't really be a surprise it's in the news more!

This! So why people were giving it loads at 8am and suggesting every child should be in school and everyone in the office, god knows!

Because they would all have to have travelled home in the height of the storm.

Royal Mail wanted every employee (in the hat hit areas) hone by 10.

Sensible!

MrsTrumpton · 18/02/2022 19:26

BABAHOTEL No, N8. About 20 mins away from where it happened.

So glad it is the same person, would be dreadful if it was another one.
MrsTrumpton · 18/02/2022 19:40

BABAHOTEL Yes, it's the same one by the sounds of things. The poor driver is in hospital but thankfully his injuries aren't life threatening. The Evening Standard is now reporting the death toll across the UK has reached eight.

So sad, but as another had said if anyone had listened to the crap on here from people this morning, it would be worse.

But 8, is 8 too many
