To think New York cheesecake is bland and claggy?

I probably am. I tried it many years ago and didn't like it but that was a long time ago so I gave it another go today. An M&S one so probably a good example of what one should taste like I thought. I ate it but was thoroughly unimpressed. It was so bland. Yes I know it's vanilla but I love vanilla and don't find vanilla ice cream bland and it's actually my favourite. So why do I find this cheesecake so uninspiring?

My favourite bought cheesecake is usually a chocolate one as long as it's not too sickly. My all time favourite though is my homemade Oreo cheesecake which is odd as I don't like Oreos Confused It has 5 ingredients and doesn't need baking.

Please tell me your favourite cheesecake(s).

Homemade New York cheesecake Grin

YANBU - always flavourless!

I prefer an unbaked one, flavoured with real lemon and lime. Incredibly unhealthy, but delicious.

Rodion · 17/02/2022 22:30

I do like it but think it needs to be a really good one and have fresh berries and cream/ice-cream with it. I found baked cheesecakes really disappointing though.

Waitrose does very good New York cheesecake, way better then M&S. it’s my favourite.

MelaniaFlump · 17/02/2022 22:31

I love them all. I made Nigella’s white choc cheesecake which I made for the first time recently- much lighter than it sounds and really delicious.

Agree with all of this!
Rodion · 17/02/2022 22:32

Hmm, 've just googled it it looks like it IS a baked one - I've mistakenly thought it was just an unbaked vanilla cheesecake. Scrap my last answer then, YANBU!

TheFlis12345 · 17/02/2022 22:32

YANBU, it’s too dense without any real flavour and not worth the calories.

Chishnfips · 17/02/2022 22:33

You should try one from Roxy's on Times Square.

SmallOrFarAway · 17/02/2022 22:34

Agree, I don't get the bland cheesecake love at all. The best one I had was a cheapo supermarket frozen one, mandarin. Gorgeous and fruity. Can't find it anymore though and can't be bothered trying to create it.

OP care to share your Oreo recipe please?!

NewtoHolland · 17/02/2022 22:34

YANBU
I nearly cried when I first had one, where is the topping!!
My fave is the baked one on BBC good food, fruity and lovely.

TicTacHoh · 17/02/2022 22:34

Yabu to not share your homemade Oreo cheesecake recipe... sounds amazing Smile

GCAcademic · 17/02/2022 22:35

Burnt Basque cheesecake is where it’s at.

WellTidy · 17/02/2022 22:36

I like the Waitrose one and serve it with fresh raspberries. It is bliss.

Tereseta · 17/02/2022 22:36

My mum makes a mean lime and ginger cheesecake, everytime I visit she makes one Grin

SockQueen · 17/02/2022 22:37

YANBU - it's dull. Cheesecake needs something in/on it!

misssunshine4040 · 17/02/2022 22:37

Billionaire shortbread cheesecake is the absolute best

Fabuleuse · 17/02/2022 22:38

YABVU. I love New York cheesecake! Probably my favourite ever dessert. Please send it all my way.

MyBottomDecides · 17/02/2022 22:38

Love a proper baked cheesecake - the mellowness is the whole deal.

Set ones on the other hand- cold claggy gloop with shrieking citrus to attempt to cut the cloying sweetness- not for me!

SushiGo · 17/02/2022 22:40

The waitrose key lime pie cheesecake is actual heaven.

Pugdogmom · 17/02/2022 22:40

New York cheesecake is my favourite, but the ones they serve here are awful. It's like buying a frozen pizza from Asda here and trying to compare it to what you'd get in Italy.
If you ever go to NYC, go to Junior's or Eileen's for Cheesecake. Lindy's used to be good too, sadly closed!

phoenixrosehere · 17/02/2022 22:41

Banana Cream Cheesecake..

mellow, not overly sweet, while flavourful and not the artificial banana flavour

Pedalpushers · 17/02/2022 22:42

Cheesecake should be unbaked and it must be fruit flavoured, none of this chocolate/vanilla.

gogohm · 17/02/2022 22:42

You've not tasted a decent one. I've never had decent shop cheesecake in the U.K. I make it with proper vanilla pods and baked

42isthemeaning · 17/02/2022 22:43

This is correct.
