If you have not done today's Wordle 9/2/22 Read no further you have been warned!!!

*Semi lighthearted.

What do you think am I being unreasonable for thinking the 5 letter word choice for today is controversial. The creator of the game is apparently English and it has a co.uk address.

My d.h works for an American company and even he wasn't amused.

MrsBungle · 09/02/2022 10:07

I didn’t get it today. I didn’t know they used American spellings.

Jjjayfee · 09/02/2022 10:08

Don't let it color your opinion too much!

LindaEllen · 09/02/2022 10:12

Everyone knows Wordle uses US spellings. YABU.

And even if you didn't know, it's hardly the most pressing issue in the world, is it?

RustyBear · 09/02/2022 10:12

I voted YABU because your thread title, even in its truncated form in Trending, was a spoiler in itself. You should have just said Wordle Spoiler - the bit about controversy was a bit of a giveaway for anyone who'd done the previous similarly spelt one.

thegreylady · 09/02/2022 10:13

I only got it in 4 because I was forewarned about American spelling. Not fair (she muttered childishly).

TeeBee · 09/02/2022 10:14

If you work in the medical field, you don't consider it American spelling.

Ladyks3 · 09/02/2022 10:15

American here- see no issue at all Grin

thedefinitionofmadness · 09/02/2022 10:16

Pedant alert:
There is an English dictionary spelling of this word - old/medical use! Google it!

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 09/02/2022 10:17

I thought I was going bonkers as I couldn't work it out? Then I remembered Dan Walker (avid Worker) saying that American spellings had been used before and it all became clear! Got it on my sixth attempt! Phew.

HaveringWavering · 09/02/2022 10:17

@TeeBee

If you work in the medical field, you don't consider it American spelling.
Is that related to the archaic idea of our guts being called that? Fascinating. How do you use the expression in a modern medical context?
MaterialWorld · 09/02/2022 10:17

Wound me up because I've lost my winning streak!!

Rshard · 09/02/2022 10:18
**@flindorama* @Rshard* - the Wordle app is different. Was around before Josh Wardle set up his game as far as I know. So it’s confusing. The Wordle puzzle in question here isn’t an app. It’s a website “power language.co.uk”.
Thanks peridot1

lucywho123 · 09/02/2022 10:19

Took me 5 goes but only as I'd presumed it was Buxom due to having the U and O in right place aswell as M in the wrong place. Only word left was the US spelling. There'll def be a few people who dont get it today though so less bragging can only be a good thing :)

TeeBee · 09/02/2022 10:26

HaveringWavering...aqueous humor.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 09/02/2022 10:33

It's not the first time either. So frustrating. But I did get today's as nearly got caught out before.

Washermother33 · 09/02/2022 10:36

I got it in 3 but only because I took a gamble on the US spelling . I’d assumed it was UK spellings but really couldn’t think of alternative words … I’m happy as yesterday I only got the word in 6 🙈

WorryMcGee · 09/02/2022 10:36

It did annoy me - despite knowing it uses American spellings 🤣 because I forgot and only remembered again on my last go (thank goodness because if it had ruined my streak I’d be fuming haha)

BogRollBOGOF · 09/02/2022 10:43

Controverisial doesn't exclusively mean American spelling... some didn't appreciate MOIST being used recently Grin

minipie · 09/02/2022 10:44

I only got it because of your thread title reminding me about American spellings. I had tried Juror and couldn’t think of any other UK English word that would fit.

Though I first tried Luxor as thought maybe it was a place name which would also be controversial - but it rejected that as not being a word.

Not sure what I’d have done without your thread tbh as I was completely out of possible UK words with the 3 letters I had. So thanks!

JaninaDuszejko · 09/02/2022 10:49

I think that if you are playing a word game of this nature then you should expect that any valid dictionary word may be used, including all variations listed in the dictionary, with the possible exception of proper nouns.

It accepts Colin. Very useful is Colin.

AngryApple · 09/02/2022 10:55

I’m shit at spelling, so today was a winner for me!

twoshedsjackson · 09/02/2022 10:56

I only remembered the fuss about American spellings when my winning streak had been spoiled. Made me cross, especially at only recently, the BBC went back to his old (UK) school, where three current pupils set quiz questions. I know it's only a game, but I missed my little dopamine hit at the start of the day......

MrsWinters · 09/02/2022 10:58

I got this one no trouble, but then I’m dyslexic so play fast and loose with spelling anyway

ODFOx · 09/02/2022 11:01

Anyone who did history of medicine for gcse will recognise this word with this spelling as a cromulent English spelling.

(Yes I know that cromulent is not a real word, I'll retract it interfrastically).
