If you have not done today's Wordle 9/2/22 Read no further you have been warned!!!

*Semi lighthearted.

What do you think am I being unreasonable for thinking the 5 letter word choice for today is controversial. The creator of the game is apparently English and it has a co.uk address.

Yes, I was pissed off.

DomesticatedZombie · 09/02/2022 09:07

Or should I say 'pissed'. Except it's 9 am.

DomesticatedZombie · 09/02/2022 09:08

Maybe someone could form a splinter Wordle with strictly UK spellings and no jokes.

Skilovingmama · 09/02/2022 09:12

Thanks @Clawdy! 😂

MangoM · 09/02/2022 09:13

I had a very lucky first guess today and the cynic in me remembered the hoo har last time we had a US spelling so got it right on the second go Grin
DH was not happy!

I on the other hand completely messed up yesterday. Not only was it an 'easy' word but to add salt to the wound it was a word I often start with Angry

thesugarbumfairy · 09/02/2022 09:23

It annoyed me. But at least I know for next time...

viques · 09/02/2022 09:29

I got it in five, but probably because I am used to US spellings (and ridiculous non words) from doing wordscape.

CharityDingle · 09/02/2022 09:30

Saw the thread title, didn't read any further, but I'm glad I saw the thread title.

I had four of the five letters, on my second attempt, with one in the correct place, when I saw the thread title. Thanks OP Grin

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/02/2022 09:30

I guessed on line four but in a 'they can't have done this surely, but was struggling to see what else it could be after getting the final four letters in the correct order. Bastards.

I’m loving all the people who are now conflicted about playing Wordle because they have found out (late to the party) that it’s not British, despite the co.uk domain name Grin.

Stands to reason that they’d use American spellings as that gives a wider range of 5 letter words to choose from.

By the way, I don’t think Josh Wardle personally chooses the word at 11:59 every night Grin.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/02/2022 09:33

It's owned by the New York Times since a week or two ago, so even if it wasn't American English before it definitely would be now.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/02/2022 09:35

@UnaOfStormhold

Brian Bilston's poem of a few weeks back still seems relevant.
Perfect! Grin

He might! If that's the only work he has to do all day, no reason he can't stay up Grin
mumda · 09/02/2022 09:46

Just after midnight I heard 'bloody American spelling'
Smile

SparkleSpangle · 09/02/2022 09:47

Was ready for it because they have used favor before

Orchid876 · 09/02/2022 09:47

I saw a post on Twitter from a knob head TV reporter who claimed today's Wordle would cause a diplomatic incident. I knew from that it would be an American spelling today, so I got it in three, and my best score yet. I'm annoyed about that, I would like to have got it without any hints, I know Wordle uses American spellings. Lesson for today is, don't go on SM before doing Wordle!

Nutsohazelnuts · 09/02/2022 09:47

YABU. It’s American, it uses American spelling, get over it.

MakeMineALarge1 · 09/02/2022 09:50

Wish I'd have seen this before attempting it, I got it in 5, but it went against everything to press enter knowing in my mind it was spelt wrong.

Motherdare · 09/02/2022 09:53

Ha ha, I only guessed it because I saw this thread in active convos and assumed it was to do with an American spelling!

Notanewusertool · 09/02/2022 09:56

I did get it eventually but only by going through every letter that was left. Usually I can see the patterns of suffixes/prefixes but this is a letter formation which just doesn't register with me (English grad -although I admit you wouldn't believe it from my posts on here). Interestingly, DH who is dyslexic got it quite easily. He's less wedded to 'proper' English than me.

viques · 09/02/2022 09:56

I do get irked , ok, bloody annoyed with myself , at double letters ! US spellings are one thing, sneaky double letters are another, and I mean doubles when the word contains the same letter twice, not necessarily next to each other.

Bimblybomeyelash · 09/02/2022 09:56

I got in in 3, mostly because I’m actually a rubbish speller and it’s one of those words I’m not sure about until I write it down. I put it in, thought ‘that doesn’t look right’, and then pressed enter anyway.

KeepYaHeadUp · 09/02/2022 09:57

@Madcats

Wretched thing took me 5 goes today; I nearly lost it!

I'm usually more of a 3 or 4 goes sort of person.

Have you lot tried Mathler.com? It's using 6 digits or +*-/ to equal their number.

Ah, MN and Americanism. Never disappoints. Grin Grin Grin

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/02/2022 10:00

It's not the first time this happened, 'favor' was the word a few weeks ago.
