If you have not done today's Wordle 9/2/22 Read no further you have been warned!!!

*Semi lighthearted.

What do you think am I being unreasonable for thinking the 5 letter word choice for today is controversial. The creator of the game is apparently English and it has a co.uk address.

I got it on my last go. I’ve lost my streak anyway though because I’ve got a new phone Sad

undermilkjug · 09/02/2022 07:05

@flindorama

I've just done it. Got it in 5. But I don't understand, unless I'm day behind you all, as that's the UK spelling as far as I know. Am I missing something?
It's not the UK spelling. In the UK that is a 6 letter word.
HippoRaine · 09/02/2022 07:07

I'm new to wordle (day 5) but this one really irked me. I still got it, but grudgingly Grin

OverByYer · 09/02/2022 07:09

Agree I didn’t get it until guess 6.
It was not funny.
(See what I did there?)

MrsLargeEmbodied · 09/02/2022 07:10

i was pretty shocked but realised that he lives in america

anotherbloodyyearofcovid · 09/02/2022 07:10

@theDudesmummy

I see James Wardle is from Brooklyn though (I hadn't been aware of that before) so I guess it is to be expected and I shouldn't have been annoyed at all! I only started playing recently.
No he's from Wales, lives in USA

Wordle 235 4/6

⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨
⬜🟨🟨⬜🟨
⬜🟨🟨🟨⬜
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Pascha · 09/02/2022 07:11

It's a perfectly legitimate spelling of the word. People get far too worked up about it. 99% of the world who learn English as a second language will learn this spelling and this rule.

I really don't see the issue.

flindorama · 09/02/2022 07:11

Right, I see where I've gone wrong. I've downloaded a different app. It's called Wordle but it's not the "real" one! Confused I googled and yes I'd be annoyed too.

DebiNewberry1997 · 09/02/2022 07:11

I got it in three but I knew about the American spelling rules from a previous word.

There will be UPROAR over it!

Undertheoldlindentree · 09/02/2022 07:12

Yes, got it in three. Very, very close on second guess (luck), then thought of correct word and almost rejected as too many letters. Just decided to try US spelling - Hey Presto!

Universe1969 · 09/02/2022 07:15

And the founder is British ffs

erinaceus · 09/02/2022 07:16

@Bintymcbintface

UK based should use UK spellings I agree, I got it but it irked me greatly
Wordle has been bought by the New York Times though, so I guess it is not UK based.
dudsville · 09/02/2022 07:16

I don't play the game but this thread has amused me. I was told there would be spoilers, please, what is the word!?

SuddenArborealStop · 09/02/2022 07:17

Got it in 3, now you'll know for next time. Its just like when you discover the double letters are possible, you take the hit and learn for next time.

I didn't get it because I was thinking in uk spelling. Alas!

Bubblesgun · 09/02/2022 07:17

He is not english. Get over it. Of course it s not “controversial” pffff

DePfeffoff · 09/02/2022 07:18

I usually feel quietly satisfied when I get a wordle, but didn't feel that way this time. Still, I'll get over it.

TangledUp789 · 09/02/2022 07:18

Your thread title is a bit spoiler-ish. ‘Controversial’ to me means either a derogatory word or a ‘mis-spelt’ word. I think it’s fine to use US spellings, it’s a game played by people across the world and you see these spellings everywhere. I got it in five today (with a little assistance from your clue).

Singlebutmarried · 09/02/2022 07:19

I got it but now I know that the ‘spellings’ aren’t native I’ll be prepared for next time.

oakleaffy · 09/02/2022 07:22

The thing that really confuses me with Americans is the use of Fahrenheit over Centigrade
An American on FB said ''It's really chilly today..30 degs!
To me, that's unbearably hot...Then I realised we were using different measurements.

Rshard · 09/02/2022 07:25

I’m a bit confused as my word was different so think I might have a different/wrong app?

TheDogsMother · 09/02/2022 07:25

I got it in four and the way the letters fell it couldn't be any other word. I didn't know about the US spellings though so was a bit surprised

KeepYaHeadUp · 09/02/2022 07:27

@DrSbaitso

It's established that Wordle uses American spellings. This wasn't the first time.
This! Not the first time.
