If you have not done today's Wordle 9/2/22 Read no further you have been warned!!!

*Semi lighthearted.

What do you think am I being unreasonable for thinking the 5 letter word choice for today is controversial. The creator of the game is apparently English and it has a co.uk address.

I got it in 4, was scratching my head as I had 4 of the letters in the right place on the third line, then remembered that it uses American spellings.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 09/02/2022 08:36

As soon as I read the title of the thread I guessed what the 'controversy' would be so I got it in three.

ihatesoaps · 09/02/2022 08:36

@flindorama

Right, I see where I've gone wrong. I've downloaded a different app. It's called Wordle but it's not the "real" one! Confused I googled and yes I'd be annoyed too.
It's not an app
butterpuffed · 09/02/2022 08:36

Just decided to try US spelling - Hey Presto!

Same here, got it in four as nothing else would fit . It doesn't bother me.

ihatesoaps · 09/02/2022 08:37

@Bubblesgun

He is not english. Get over it. Of course it s not “controversial” pffff
He IS British though.....
ihatesoaps · 09/02/2022 08:37

@Rshard

I’m a bit confused as my word was different so think I might have a different/wrong app?
It's not an app
Aposterhasnoname · 09/02/2022 08:42

I got it, but only because I saw the title of this thread and was looking for controversial words.

TherapistInATabard · 09/02/2022 08:42

I got it in 3 thanks to this thread title 😂

SoManyTshirts · 09/02/2022 08:43

Title of this post tipped me off and I got it in 3. Not the first Americanism to come up, and the owners are American.

theDudesmummy · 09/02/2022 08:43

If you are on an app you are not on the real Wordle. There is however a "fake" Wordle app that I quite like as you can do 6, 7 and 8 letter words too.

comfortablyfrumpy · 09/02/2022 08:44

It got me as I assumed it was UK spellings. I only took a chance in it as there was really no alternative.
If I had known I would have got it far quicker (not bitter, definitely not Grin).

sluj · 09/02/2022 08:44

Well, thanks to this post and Twitter, I have maintained my streak but I do feel discombobulated!

theDudesmummy · 09/02/2022 08:44

The spelling is not "native" for the creator, as someone has pointed out to me, but it is correct for where he lives now.

LibraryWench · 09/02/2022 08:46

I'm so glad to see this thread. I only got on the Wordle bandwagon yesterday (after reading another thread here which mentioned it) so this is my day 2 and I was a bit confused.

Now I know it's US spelling it should/might be easier in future! Smile

Tulipomania · 09/02/2022 08:47

I was cued up for an American spelling as they did flavor a few weeks ago. (Twitter went nuts)

Tulipomania · 09/02/2022 08:47

So I got it in 3 today.

waddlemyway · 09/02/2022 08:48

I haven't done today's but I got pissed off when he used labor.

I have since learned he lives in Brooklyn.

DecayedStrumpet · 09/02/2022 08:48

⬛⬛⬛🟨⬛
⬛⬛🟨🟨🟩
⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

I was completely baffled after guess 2 and used my third guess to rule out some more letters. I did mutter swear words as i was typing it in though!

GrendelsGrandma · 09/02/2022 08:52

I thought it was funny ;)

Tulipomania · 09/02/2022 08:54

When I saw the thread title in Trending I knew it would be an American spelling, so that helped me get it quicker.

BringMeTea · 09/02/2022 08:56

Yeah this is not going away as now bought by NY Times so we have to struggle through people! Grin

malmi · 09/02/2022 08:57

I think that if you are playing a word game of this nature then you should expect that any valid dictionary word may be used, including all variations listed in the dictionary, with the possible exception of proper nouns. If nothing else you need to relax and just enjoy the game for what it is, and try to have a sense of humour when you get caught out!

squashyhat · 09/02/2022 08:58

I got it in 2. It wasn't hard to guess if you know alternative spellings might be used.

JaffaCakeGal · 09/02/2022 08:59

I got it on guess 2 because someone on my fb posted they were annoyed it was an American spelling Grin made it pretty easy knowing that!

ErrolTheDragon · 09/02/2022 09:03

Given the five letter constraint, it seems perfectly reasonable to use shorter American variants if they'll fit. Similarly, allowing a mix is good for crosswords, scrabble etc. It's not as though the US versions are in any way difficult or incomprehensible.

And in any case, if you can't deal with a mix of U.K. and US spellings maybe you're not really cut out for word games.Grin
