If you have not done today's Wordle 9/2/22 Read no further you have been warned!!!

*Semi lighthearted.

What do you think am I being unreasonable for thinking the 5 letter word choice for today is controversial. The creator of the game is apparently English and it has a co.uk address.

My DH really struggled, I had to give him a few clues on his last guess otherwise I don’t think he would have got it. He was scribbling lots of combinations on pen and paper and he knew the second, fifth and sixth letters but still couldn’t get it and he’s usually really good. I think I must have got it so quickly as I read a lot of American novels.

Wordle 235 6/6

⬛🟩⬛⬛🟨
⬛🟩🟨⬛⬛
⬛🟩⬛🟩⬛
⬛🟨🟨🟨⬛
⬛🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

I admit a certain American spelling pattern dies make me twitch but accept their spellings are as valid as ours.

Ostryga · 09/02/2022 07:29

I only got it because I called my friend saying “wtf is this WORDLE!” And he mentioned the previous controversy re American spellings.

Wordle 235 6/6

⬛🟨🟨⬛⬛
⬛🟨🟨⬛⬛
⬛⬛⬛🟩🟩

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Horrible!

Sorry, I meant Josh Wardle. Ah, so he is originally from the UK. But I guess with him living in New York and making a game that is played worldwide, he is going to be using US spelling...

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 09/02/2022 07:30

Got it in 4 just trying to figure the letters and thought it would shake and do the "word not in word list" so I was quite surprised I was right!!
I tend to put in random letters when I have a few already to see if it helps (it doesnt always)

I was annoyed as well, it happened before with Favor a few weeks ago, too.

QuantumHypothesis · 09/02/2022 07:31

I got it in two but the radio station I listen too on the way to work said it was the American spelling.

It’s really gonna piss my DH off though.

theDudesmummy · 09/02/2022 07:32

That share failed to show the last line! I dud get it!

theDudesmummy · 09/02/2022 07:32

Did

Abraxan · 09/02/2022 07:32

I already knew it used American spellings, so got it fine today.
I remember reading about the use of American spellings, and the fact that the creator lives in America, so was ready for it.

capercaillie · 09/02/2022 07:33

Got it in 3/6. When a particular combination of vowels didn't work, then there weren't many options.

ThreeLocusts · 09/02/2022 07:33

Acc. To a recent Guardian article, the inventor of wordle is Welsh. So brought up on British English, but not 'ethnically' English.

UnaOfStormhold · 09/02/2022 07:33

Brian Bilston's poem of a few weeks back still seems relevant.

IsaLating · 09/02/2022 07:34

Took me 6, but I was cross at myself for a wasted guess early on where I put letters where I knew they shouldn't be!

I resorted to writing letters on scraps of paper and shuffling them round the table before the correct answer occured to me.

We are not amused.

SchoolWillBeUpShitCreek · 09/02/2022 07:34

Got it, but was miffed.

Fifthtimelucky · 09/02/2022 07:34

I did it in 4. I had 4 letters by the third line, but they were all in the wrong place. I couldn't think of any other word that would fit and knew American spellings were OK because of the fuss a couple of weeks ago.

I confess I'd never heard of wordle until then.

RosesAndHellebores · 09/02/2022 07:34

Got it in 4 but it was hard.
Have none of you ever run Mucrosoft spell checker?

CharacterForming · 09/02/2022 07:36

I failed last time they did an American spelling but was prepared this time.

Crowdfundingforcake · 09/02/2022 07:39

Got it in 3 but only because the letter combination didn't allow for anything else. After the great 'favour' debacle of 12/01/22 (or should that be 01/12/22) I've been on the lookout for US spelling.

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 09/02/2022 07:42

Got it in 2, but as a previous poster said, I was there for the great favo(u)r hoo-ha so I was ready for it.

AndAnotherNewOne · 09/02/2022 07:43
OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2022 07:44

The fact that this thread existed told me it was going to be a US spelling.

Madcats · 09/02/2022 07:45

Wretched thing took me 5 goes today; I nearly lost it!

I'm usually more of a 3 or 4 goes sort of person.

Have you lot tried Mathler.com? It's using 6 digits or +*-/ to equal their number.

randomsabreuse · 09/02/2022 07:46

I got the wrong "wrong" spelling on my last guess. I just don't think of that pattern as a possible!
