AIBU to feel overwhelmed by non-binary, cancel culture, and woke society?

I've got to the stage where I feel quite apprehensive about the future. It just feels like there will be no 'men' or 'women' or 'boys' and 'girls' and everyone will need to conform to various gender identities and have to remember all the different ways people identify so as not to accidently offend anyone. I'm supportive of transgender people and understand people changing from male to female or vice versa but now there's all this non-binary stuff it's getting confusing.

All these things going on in this 'woke society' and if you aren't seen as wanting to conform with all this new stuff then the 'cancel culture' comes at you.

I just feel like I would be happy if there wasn't so much pressure placed on people to get pronouns correct if for millions of years we've used he/him and she/her and now we need to say they/them when we were taught in school they/them was plural.

I don't have kids yet but I do wonder if I did what the world would be like for them growing up.

AIBU for wanting to just continue with two genders?

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I don't want to have to pretend people are cats, and face sanctions for failing to be convincing enough.
Me neither. This is getting silly. What next? Special public toilets with litter trays that some poor soul has to empty?

Well the pander to every individual has to stop somewhere doesn't it. Nonsense of hundreds of genders brings nonsense requests, so don't be surprised. Today enabling people to be completely ridiculous knows no bounds. Someone wants to identify as a cat and instead of seeking mental health support it is enabled. Madness.

Its really not that hard. Meowself needs catnip next the trays to enhance the ambience. There must be two trays as cats require choice. Also, two rooms as transcatFs need space away from transcatMs. Add in scratching post, toys, and brush.

I don't understand why someone's sexuality means so much to them, before just being a person. I don't think it's healthy to have your whole identity be about who you are attracted to/prefer to sleep with. How about Hi my names's Kate or James and then take it from there. I'm fine with just knowing where people are from and their hobbies etc. Announcing your sexual preferences and pronouns right off the bat is like a challenge straight away to see how you react. To me it's anti social.

Completely understand you here.

Instead of focusing all on pronouns why not instead focus on being an individual.

You're not Laura, genderfluid, pansexual you're just Laura who just feels certain ways about things - why the need to box everyone in to a category surely that's the kind of problem' sn/woman' etc already dies?

There's only been vague mention of how gender identity ties in with Autism. Out of 4 patients I've referred to Gender identity services all of them are autistic. My siblings child now identifies as non binary. Purely because they were vulnerable as a young female uni student and were groomed by an older male to female trans activist with severe mental health problems. There's a common theme that I see that gender identity issues begin due to mental health issues or neurodiversity and then vulnerable people are sucked in by the whole movement. There's also a whole subset of identifying as disabled which is a big part of the trans movement in Scotland. You don't have to have a diagnosed medical condition to be disabled, it's how you self identify.

Pronouns and gender identity have nothing to do with sexuality - the T got tagged on to the LGB without those of us who are LGB getting any say in the matter.

It seems a bit cultish imo
