DH gave his female coworker a lift home past midnight

So my husband went to a works drink after work on Friday, around midnight he messaged me asking if he should get us a McDonald's, replied back saying in bed but yeah why not.
A few mins later I had no response back from him whether he was going to get McDonald's or not so I called him and I could tell he was in the car when he answered. I mentioned get the takeaway and he said do I want fries and when I was about to respond I hear a female voice. He was giving one of his coworkers a lift home past midnight!
This I'm not going to lie really got my back up.
Am I reading too much into this???

If you had gone on a work night out and one of your male colleagues offered you a lift home, late at night and when you'd had a drink, would you accept, or would you think it better to walk home alone, after midnight, in February?

Finallylostit · 06/02/2022 09:57

OMG - I work in a very male world - so many of my colleagues have given me a lift home, walked me to the station if out late.

I have never thought once of doing anything and tbh never considered their partners or what they would think. If anything thought how lucky their DPs were for having such a thoughtful partner.

Erm, not looking for a fight nope!
Stating the obvious that women do not need men to keep them safe. Completely agreed that the man did nothing wrong, and even the right thing by giving this woman a lift. BUT almost every comment is like, thank god he did! Which is extreme. I guess I'm more of a feminist than I thought. But then again, this is Aibu where people go out of their way to prove the op wrong no matter what the topic.

That was @PhoboPhobia
CynsterBitch · 06/02/2022 10:00

Don’t see the problem here, nice thing for him to do surely?

lugeanjaam · 06/02/2022 10:00

With all respect yes you are reading too much into it.

He is being a decent human being.

Veggiepotamus · 06/02/2022 10:06

I would think absolutely nothing of that (assuming you don’t have other reasons to doubt him.) I’d be annoyed if I heard my dh could have given a woman a lift home and didn’t. And tbh he would never consider letting someone get home alone if he could help

Blueuggboots · 06/02/2022 10:14

Is he a gremlin? Is that why the past midnight thing is a big deal?

SpinsForGin · 06/02/2022 10:17

@Lorw

I’d be upset if my DH didn’t offer a colleague especially a woman a lift home at that time of night and would probably look at him differently...
Why?

I'd actually look at my DH differently if he didn't offer a lift.

EwwSprouts · 06/02/2022 10:18

I'm female and almost always drive on works night out as no public transport. Given loads of male & female colleagues a lift home. I think it's normal.

Ooooppps .... apologies. I see we are in agreement!! I'm not fully awake yet! 🙈
amusedbush · 06/02/2022 10:31

@SpinsForGin I think you've misread the post you quoted!

Tomeeornottomee · 06/02/2022 10:31

I would have gone nuts if my DH had come home and said he HADNT given a female coworker a lift after midnight!

amusedbush · 06/02/2022 10:33

@SpinsForGin how weird, I refreshed the page and your first post was the most recent one, I posted my comment and suddenly yours appeared even though it was posted more than ten minutes before Confused

Sorry!

StickyToffeePuddingAndIceCream · 06/02/2022 10:35

My husband will usually get dropped off by a non drinking colleague after a work night out, he'd do the same for them too (his department are mainly women). I'm not sure why anyone would have an issue, surely you'd rather your husband drop a lone female colleague off and make sure she got home OK rather than her wondering alone for a taxi. I honestly don't understand why you'd be annoyed, he sounds like a decent bloke - assuming he didn't cheat on you previously whilst offering someone a lift home!

endlesssighing · 06/02/2022 10:41

@Fittleswade

I'd be more worried if he didn't...
This.

No way would my husband let his friend (female or not) walk home in the dark and the rain after a night out if he was driving. He'd probably even take them to mcdonalds on the way home (not pay obviously) if we were getting one.

WonderfulYou · 06/02/2022 10:43

I agree!

I wouldn’t mention your feelings to him in this case as if my partner said they didn’t like me giving a lift to my co-worker I would think they were a bit possessive and controlling and I would end the relationship.

No worries!!

1dayatatime · 06/02/2022 10:48

Personally I would have been more worried that this "predatory" woman in the car may get be tucking into my McDonalds fries on the way home.

Momicrone · 06/02/2022 10:50

I've always made my own way home after a night out

Would you turn down a lift offer from a colleague?
Alarchbach · 06/02/2022 10:54

I’d be more annoyed if my DP had not offered a lift to be honest 🤷🏻‍♀️

CourtRand · 06/02/2022 10:55

Good. Very nice of him to driver her home when it's dark and dangerous. It's a car not a sex room...

Iamkmackered1979 · 06/02/2022 10:56

So if he gave the same woman a lift home at 11pm it’s ok or 11am or after work? Do you not trust your husband? Or does he turn into a cheater after 12 midnight? He clearly wasn’t drinking, he helped a colleague out saving her a taxi fare and brought you food home and you’re miffed?
Odd!

CourtRand · 06/02/2022 10:57

I also hope he wasn't drunk driving
