To ask what you’re doing awake post-midnight? Part 2: Insomnia Strikes Back

5YearsLeft · 05/02/2022 11:24

Bit awkward to start this in the middle of the day, but I wanted to be able to link it on the old thread before it completely fills. Meanwhile, even though right now it’s not post-midnight, if you’re having a day-after hangover from insomnia, feel free to post. Whether it’s from poorly children or babies or pets or OHs, whether it’s grief or fear or anxiety or other losses, whether it’s work stress or home stress or just LIFE stress, we get it. You’re not yelling into the void; you’re sharing with people who have been stuck wide awake, too.

@ImNotDancing - are you still awake? Did you have to go in? Hate, hate, HATE bleeding type stuff at night, just so scary. Even if it turns out to be some kind of normal, you never feel as easy about bothering people in the middle of the night. Hope it slowed down and you got some sleep.

It’s daytime here, and I’m too tired to collect my thoughts and write anything, just thought I’d check in, in case I’m not Dancing was still awake and needed a shoulder.

SoftwareDev · 16/03/2022 04:51

I’m sitting in a room in A and E awaiting doctor. Been told it could be another 2/3 hours! I arrived (on advice of NHS 24’s 111 service) at 1:40am. It’s going to be a long night!

The police dragged a young woman in earlier who was providing free entertainment however I’ve been moved to an examination room so sadly no more entertainment.

I got a call back about 3:30am in the end and told to keep an eye on it. It seems to be better now thank god! Thank you ❤️

5YearsLeft · 16/03/2022 12:12

Oh gosh. Sounds awful @ImNotDancing, especially in the middle of the night. I do hope it gets a bit better or that A&E can handle it. And @SoftwareDev, I do hope you’ve escaped the hospital by now.

Hope nobody is truly lost after the Monday night debacle. Not sure I’ve seen @purpleme12 @MrsGlum or a few others, but hopefully they’re all sleeping.

Oooh hello. A bit early but the friend I spent all weekend with in close contact with has got covid 🤓. Am so hoping I haven't got it for a 3rd time. 🙏. I'm feeling sooooooooo tired and can't wait for bed (although it's not yet 9pm).

@5YearsLeft maybe the gong bath may have a cancellation? If you do get to go take blankets, a couple of pillows and something to lie on so you are comfy and warm. 😊.

@ImNotDancing I hope you are feeling better

@SoftwareDev what news??

@Confusedmeanderings a trip to the seaside is always restorative. I grew up by the sea and used to be bemused at the shelters on the front (for old ladies😂). But now I really value them. A marvel to be able to sit and admire the sea in relative comfort (with flask of tea perchance?). Sometimes being middle aged is wonderful. I hope you continue to feel OK. Chemo can be brutal. Good news is that scarves are very in trend this year so you can rock them in your own amazing style Grin.

Well. I'm off to bed. Speak again in the we small hours I expect. 😘

5YearsLeft · 17/03/2022 00:04

Hello and Welcome yet again to the thread that I swear wasn’t destroyed in the great Monday night purge. If you’re suffering from anything (stress, pain, illness, insomnia, or a whole lot more), this is the place for you to cry, vent, share, whinge - whatever you need.

@catwomando - Thanks for checking in!

Just finished working , ‘urgent task’ which was given to me this afternoon . I have one year old twins to bath and put to bed too, so it’s been a fun evening. Just got into bed but can’t sleep as heard baby stirring and have a cold

5YearsLeft · 17/03/2022 00:21

@SS1983 Ah, im sure everyone loves those afternoon urgent tasks due by morning. I do hope at least that baby stirring didn’t necessarily meaning baby walking. Twins must be hard enough! Maybe you’ve wound them down by now and despite your terrible evening, you’re able to get some sleep in now.

Well, sort off, I’ve recently discovered AIBU! So currently having a good read there ! But that’s no one’s fault but my own if I don’t sleep now.

Little one was just having a small cough :)

5YearsLeft · 17/03/2022 01:03

@SS1983 Ah yes, AIBU can be both a blessing and a curse in that regard. Wait until you discover Classics, ha. I do hope the little one just had a momentary cough.

I accidentally slept past two in the afternoon and I’m not tired in the slightest now

5YearsLeft · 17/03/2022 01:10

@ImNotDancing ah, that’s a pain in the arse. I’m sure your body needed it for recovery though. How are you feeling?

Hey. Predictably I'm here. .

What's all this about deleted MN threads? I bet there was fury and consternation. There have been some crackers recently , my favourite being the one where the lady couldn't find her vibrator and was worrying about who had it and what was it's fate. It was a splurt-your-tea-out-all-over-the-screen funny with other MNetters piling in with tales of small children taking theirs into show and tell at school (!) , and MILs interfering with them (ghastly but hilarious and cringeworthy all at the same time). I hope it survived the unintended 'great delete'

It was a lovely evening chez Catwomando, with impromptu visitors and a full house and table for dinner (courtesy DD who is a fantastic cook). I had wine though to go with, which probably explains my presence here so early on. At the yoga weekend the massage lady told me quietly that I should cut down on the wine - she did that after feeling my liver through my leg, acupuncture stylie thing that they do. Scarily accurate I'm sure, but totally baffling. How that works in acupuncture, reflexology etc is a mystery where one bit of your body signifies how internal, organs are functioning . The first time I had one of those therapeutic /alternative massages I got a bit frustrated as she kept massaging my forearm (bloody hell woman it's my neck and shoulders that are stiff as a board I thought, why not give them a good pummelling?), and then suddenly my whole bowel did a magnificent and visible summersault. 'Aah good' the therapist exclaimed. 'I was working on your bowel as it needs attention. Do you have bowed issues usually?' Me (thoroughly spooked) : 'erm, yes, Crohns disease'. .Spooky magic healing stuff. Oh, and she went on to do a marvellous job on my shoulders and neck too.

Enough of my prattling on. @5YearsLeft how are things settling down at the new home and with DH now?

@Chichimcgee is baby Iris still cluster feeding?

@Wallywobbles what news on the titchy lambs. Luff them. ❤️

Oh, and finally my new (blue Sad) passport arrived today. Had it less than 2 hours before one of the cats bit a hole in the cover. She obviously isn't impressed by its lack of European-ness either. Ha!

Feeling better today thank you 😊 it was definitely a fright last night!

MrsGlum · 17/03/2022 02:22

@5YearsLeft I am here thank you for noticing my absence. I’ve just been really struggling for the last few days. GP prescribed more sleeping tablets so I’ve been using them to at least get some form of sleep.
Life is just getting harder to bear and I am finding it difficult to focus on any thing much,
even MN.
My brain is so wired from the AD med withdrawal it just won’t drop off naturally. I’m in a bit of a mess to be honest. I’m 10 weeks in now and things feel worse not better sadly. I think because I am never getting enough genuine natural sleep.

Imissprosecco · 17/03/2022 02:53

I have a 2 week old and a 2 year old who has vomited twice since 1am, both on his bed and mine. Now on the sofa watching Bing. Someone send wine...

catwomando · 17/03/2022 03:01

@Imissprosecco a glass is winging its way over to you.

Reminds me of a time when one of,mine had just moved to a high sleeper bed. Middle of the night , hear a cry 'mum, I feel sick!' I rush in there, in only my knickers. Am half way up the ladder when she leans over and barfs. I caught it in my hands. A whole handful of warm vomit 🤢 I call DH for help and he arrives to find me topless holding a pile of sick. Ah, happy memories of childhood GrinBear

catwomando · 17/03/2022 03:02

@Imissprosecco congrats on the new baby as well, and hope the vomity one is better soon

Wallywobbles · 17/03/2022 04:54

Terribly sadly we lost the last lamb. It was ridiculously large for a first time mum. Got stuck on the way out. And died before I got to it. Wasn't expecting it and I didn't do the sheep as was late home. DH and kids did.

Feeling unbearably guilty as I always do. I hope the ewe will recover. Her first. She has all the hallmarks of a great mum. Like her mum. Absolutely gutted.

But lambing is over.

Sorry I try to bring good news and a smile here.

catwomando · 17/03/2022 06:05

Oh @Wallywobbles that is so sad, I'm sorry. Poor little lamb and sheep. Sad

5YearsLeft · 17/03/2022 11:36

Oh good grief, sounds like quite the rough night for most people.

@Imissprosecco WineWineWine It’s the best we can do, unfortunately. It might be 11:30am now, but it sounds like you should have wine anytime.

@ImNotDancing So glad you’re doing a bit better and the fright has passed.

@MrsGlum So sorry you’re NOT feeling better. I really feel for you. I’ve never felt any difference in the sleep caused by medication vs. natural sleep but I think that’s because I can maybe reach natural sleep with them? So I don’t experience the horrific grogginess people mention and the feeling that they weren’t sleeping, but actually sedated. Have you tried tracking your sleeping with a FitBit? I know they’re not perfect but it might tell you how often or if you’re reaching deep sleep?

@catwomando Thanks for the horrific story. You’re the best. Wink It did make me laugh.

@Wallywobbles Oh gosh, what absolutely terrible news. I’m really starting to get attached to your little flock. And if I feel terrible for you, I can only imagine how much worse you feel. I’m so sorry. Flowers What a rotten end to the season, but you saved so many in such a dramatic season.

And thread is “shut” (it’s never really shut; you can write all day if you need a hand to hold) for the morning. We’ll be back tonight. I’m possibly sick? Rotten sore throat, and I slept most of last night was up until about 2 and then out until 11ish.

I have to say that there is no way on this earth that I would ever try to catch my child's sick in my hands!
I draw the line at this one! 🤣

catwomando · 17/03/2022 12:07

@purpleme12 it was kind of instinctive. After 2 years of building works we had finally got carpet down and I think I was instinctively saving it. Vomit catching is not one of my usual pastimes Grin

Its beautiful and sunny here today so please may I share my lovely magnolia tree and some hyacinths (which smell glorious), and my cat who is my insomnia companion and honorary thread member

Have a good day everyone Smile

I eventually got seen at 7:30am after arriving around 1:20am!

Thankfully the news was not bad as I feared. I will be all good in a couple of weeks! There’s nothing like hearing a 111 nurse telling you to get to A and E to give you the fear!

5YearsLeft · 17/03/2022 17:28

@catwomando Gorgeous photos and always glad to meet a new thread member!

@SoftwareDev What a terribly long night. I hope you’re able to get some rest now that you’re home and you’re not in too much pain, and you’ve been certified off work.
