To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

On my screen, it looks like the carpet is picking up the colours from the ottoman where the carpet is more in shade at the side of it, instead of in the brightness by the windows.. If it's a silky kind of carpet, this can happen in different light.

I don’t hate it & think it will hide marks/ dog hair quite well. But, I have dogs and avoid carpet in living rooms at all costs!! If you really can’t get used to it, get a big rug to hide it…..

clarysageandlavender · 04/02/2022 14:02

I like it! Looks very decadent Smile

hangrylady · 04/02/2022 14:04

I like it.

Afryingpan · 04/02/2022 14:11

I think it's lovely. But, it's about how you feel, if you don't get used to it, just stick a big neutral rug under the footstool.

Gorgeous dogs too.

YourWinter · 04/02/2022 14:15

I love it, and it will hide a multitude of sins!

jowly · 04/02/2022 14:15

Never mind the carpet OP... cocker spaniels 😍😍😍

Christmas1988 · 04/02/2022 14:19

Love it!

DarleneSnell · 04/02/2022 14:22

OMG OP, what are you looking at?! It's flippin' lovely!!

It's a perfect shade of neutral, won't limit your furniture/decor options. And looks totally luxurious! I'd be thrilled with it.

I like it.

SausageSoupSaturday · 04/02/2022 14:36

I think it just doesn't go with your sofa. Grey throw for sofa? Carpet is cool toned sofa is warm.

irishfarmer · 04/02/2022 14:37

Your dogs are beautiful!

I think it's a nice carpet and you will get used to it.

But with dogs if practical is what you want wood floors are the only way to go! We have no carpet in the house at all and never would. The amount of dog hair I hoover up daily with one small short hair dog is shocking. I can only imagine how much would get trapped in a carpet.

@Evanted76
We have a very similar colour in our bedroom, which was fitted before Christmas.
Ours is called 'Hedgehog' and it does the same thing where it looks grey from some angles and a 'minky' colour from other angles, and different in different lights/times of day.
I like that it isn't one 'uniform' colour, great for hiding bits (!), but footprints do show on it a lot giving it the look of being patterned when it is not!
I am thinking that, after a few more months, that will settle down.
I really like ours and it replaced a 30 year old thing, so it is absolutely luxurious!

FolornLawn · 04/02/2022 14:43

It looks a lot better in the later oh it’s where the checked footstool looks a lot less orange.
I had carpet anxiety in our previous house and got used to it fairly quickly.

That's exactly how I would describe the colour..! Silvery shiny grey but then you run your foot over it and then like magic it's a minky brown!

I just can't take to it at all! I know it's only a carpet but it's in the main room of the house and I just wanted it to look nice but at the same time..practical!

The second pic looks better. I wonder if soft lighting is what you need as you prefer it in the bedroom and the bedroom lighting is different? I think once you are used to it you may like it.

@Dillydollydingdong

Where did you get it? I want some.
@Evanted76 where is your tartan coffee table type thing from?
It came with the house as we bought the show home so it included all the furnishings

I don't like the colours in your sitting room at all (sorry! we all have different tastes, though) but actually I think the carpet goes with them very well indeed and it all pulls together well.

justasking111 · 04/02/2022 14:55

Give it time. Although I would lose the mauve and the Highland ottoman

Evanted76 · 04/02/2022 14:59

@officemanagerfingerscrossed
They're cocker spaniels!

The golden one is an American cocker crossed with an English cocker. And the black/grey/ white one is a Blue Roan cocker spaniel. Both are "show" cockers as opposed to "working" cockers. So by that their features are different..show cockers have longer ears and rounder heads. I'll post some more photos of them tomorrow as I've exceeded my photo limit for today.

I think you're overthinking it. Its a lovely neutral carpet that's perfect for dogs. Nice warm colour that's great for bedroom & lounge. Its natural to overthink such an expensive purchase, but this is fine. Looks warm & comfy under foot too. Smile
