To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

It’s a bizarre comment as the sofa, walls and fireplace are all cream; the curtains, cushions and throw are purple and the ottoman is cream and purple plaid. There’s a grey chair but that’s fairly neutral. The furnishings coordinate, it’s just the carpet that’s thrown things a bit.

A ‘farmhouse style room with tiles’? I don’t even know what that is!

RosieLittle · 04/02/2022 21:17

I think it will settle down, but in the meantime it looks beautifully soft on the feet. I like that it's not plain grey - this is a warmer colour.

Slight derail @DavetheCat2001 I love the colour of your walls - can you tell me what it is? Thank you if so!

sweetbellyhigh · 04/02/2022 21:34

From your photo update, I see the room differently.

Everything works except the vacuum lines 😆 and the white cabinet beneath the TV

The carpet, curtains, grey chair, throw and ottoman are fine!!

But the white painted cabinet is at odds with the colouring.

Can you hang the TV on the wall and dispense with the cabinet?

Or get a cabinet with a softer look, oak or distressed effect?

You could try removing the cabinet just to see how it looks?

By the way some of the posts in here are extremely rude.

sweetbellyhigh · 04/02/2022 21:35

Oh and DON'T GET A RUG, there's enough going on in the room, adding more will just complicate it.

InFiveMins · 04/02/2022 21:37

I think it looks lovely - it looks like someone has freshly hoovered it.

ChocolateDigestivesMmmm · 04/02/2022 21:45

It's not what I would choose but it's not terrible either. I think to improve the look of the room you could do with some deeper colours. So instead of the light mauve cushions, could you get a darker, deeper mauve? Maybe a throw for the sofa that is that colour too? Or some bold patterns? At the moment everything is just a bit too bland. If you added a bit of interest with soft furnishings it would take focus away from the carpet. Also, you'll get used to it, I often find I hate new things in the house at first and then grow to like them.

ChocolateDigestivesMmmm · 04/02/2022 21:47

Oh, and I would paint the walls either a crisp white or a dark colour. I

Pootle40 · 04/02/2022 21:52

I don't mind if but carpets that are man made fibres always have that two tone look. Pure wool if you want to avoid in future

3boyshere · 04/02/2022 22:00

I have this carpet. It does look better when settled down but o do try to vacuum it all the same way x

HeadPain · 04/02/2022 22:06

I don't understand this carpet.

But it seems more suited to your bedroom.

milkyaqua · 04/02/2022 22:33

It looks like your house has been flooded and now you have a swampy carpet. Very odd. I also can't understand the idea of a carpet that every time you vacuum it it leaves 'mowing' lines.

lljkk · 04/02/2022 22:39

your footstool doesn't match
I like the carpet 2 tone
The contrast in tones will fade a lot by end of first year
different colour curtains/cushions would complement it better

lisaandalan · 04/02/2022 22:54

I like it. X

MissMaple82 · 04/02/2022 23:02

Looks absolutely lovely. Goes perfectly well

DavetheCat2001 · 04/02/2022 23:37

Thank you @RosieLittle

It's F&B Sulking Room Pink

@Evanted76

Here you go!
Thank you. Smile Lovely dogs
StripedMousse · 05/02/2022 02:54

Saw the first photo and thought yes it does look a bit odd. But then in the second in the context of the room it looks nice. The pile is ruffled but it should settle.

Don’t enjoy that new carpet smell too much it’s volatile organic compounds!

sweetbellyhigh · 05/02/2022 05:17

@thisplaceisweird

How incredibly rude. And laughable. There is nothing remotely shabby chic about OP's decor.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2022 09:10

@thisplaceisweird

Out of interest what don't you like?

Not the person you are asking but my opinion is:

the furniture is a bit 'shabby chic' - not to my taste as it just looks a bit cheap and mis-matched. Everything is a different colour and tone, all of the woods are completely different, even the styles are all a bit different. Some items very structured, others a bit saggy. It would lend itself better to a farm house style room, with tiles. Instead the carpet is so shiny and 'polished', and your house looks like a new build, it just doesn't work. Too much going on, and yet almost 'nothing' is going on. It's all just a bit meh

That is so rude!

There's nothing at all wrong with the OP's furniture at all. It looks like a home rather than some over designed matchy-matchy stuff in a catalogue photo.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2022 09:11

(Obviously if "matchy-matchy" is your thing, that's fine. It's just ridiculous to think everyone should be the same)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/02/2022 09:13

It's because it's cool toned and your sofa and soft furnishings are warm toned so they look a bit odd together.

HeadPain · 05/02/2022 09:25

It looks like it would be very soft and comfortable to stand on with bare feet though

TwoShades1 · 05/02/2022 09:50

I think it’s quite nice. Possibly not the colour I would choose myself, but I wouldn’t think twice about it if I was just visiting your house.

RosieLittle · 05/02/2022 09:51

Thank you DavetheCat!

What will you do with the feedback from this thread? If most people say they like it, will you decide that you do too?

Me - I'm not keen at all. But who cares what I think?
