To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

@WinterDeWinter

I don't like the colours in your sitting room at all (sorry! we all have different tastes, though) but actually I think the carpet goes with them very well indeed and it all pulls together well.
No problem. We bought the show house as it is so it came with all the furnishings. The hall stairs and landing is grey walls and grey carpet so I liked the fact the mauve is a bit different. Out of interest what don't you like?

I like it! Calming and neutral. Great choose with dogs. I love rugs so would get one anyway but it’s a nice carpet x

FusionChefGeoff · 04/02/2022 15:06

Honestly - I drive my husband mad banging on about tones and insisting on a million swatches of what he says are the same colour before I decide on the best option for absolutely everything in our house so I get why this is important to you.

But I think it looks great! Tones well with all of the different colours you've got.

Just let it dull down a bit I'm sure you'll grow to love it!

BlanketyBlanks · 04/02/2022 15:07

I think I have the same carpet. I hated it too as soon as the fitters had gone. Fast forward 1 year and I’m getting another. It’s so thick too that footprints are left in it when we walk on it.

JeremyWadesBigRod · 04/02/2022 15:10

I'd get the ottoman/footstool thingy recovered to match they grey chair with the mauve cushion on it.

BlanketyBlanks · 04/02/2022 15:10

My mum described it great - she said it looks like grey water

LightSpeeds · 04/02/2022 15:10

Give yourself a few days/weeks to get used to it before making any big plans to hide it or change other things.

I never like any decorating changes I make - but then after a while I get used to it, then hopefully like it or maybe even love it.

It could be just not what you were expecting and that's why it's jarring right now.

I like it!!

@officemanagerfingerscrossed

Sorry forgot to mention..They don't really moult that much..not as much as a lot of breeds. I do make sure they get groomed every couple of months to avoid matting. I wouldn't say they don't shed at all though.

I agree with her though 😥

I think it looks lovely!

Vloggamammy · 04/02/2022 15:21

I would cover that ottoman with a teal patterned fabric. It will really give the room a lift and maybe put a matching teal colored throw on the couch? Room needs a bit of a lift and current ottoman fabric is clashing.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil · 04/02/2022 15:24

I like it. It just needs to settle in...... I had the same thoughts when I got my stairs and landing carpet, wondered what the hell id done but 50 hooverings later I'm used to it and like it now

BrioNotBiro · 04/02/2022 15:31

Aw, you can see the doggy paw prints in the plushy carpet; nice carpet for that reason alone!

ambushedbywine · 04/02/2022 15:31

I’ve seen a lot worse but yeah I don’t love it. Looks like it’s stained from a distance

Floralnomad · 04/02/2022 15:32

I think it just looks like it needs to be vacuumed in one direction and that’s awkward as it’s not a natural way to hoover . Utter madness having carpet with dogs anyway .

KitchenTowel · 04/02/2022 15:32

I like it. In the pic it looks velvety and very soft to me.

WouldBeGood · 04/02/2022 15:34

I think the overall effect is great. Your room looks lovely and it will hide a multitude of dog footprints.

Mins001 · 04/02/2022 15:39

I don't like it at all, I think it looks dated and grubby.

If I were to buy your house, I'd be thinking one of the first jobs would be to rip out that carpet.

Sorry, you did ask.

stuffytickypudding · 04/02/2022 15:41

I think we have the carpet!
It's brown/grey - Bearhug.
This is mine when first laid and then 6 months later. It flattens nicely.
We have a large and often muddy dog - it's been fantastic so far Smile

Maybe change your furniture and curtains? Would that be a cheaper option?

What do you think?
thisplaceisweird · 04/02/2022 15:47

Out of interest what don't you like?

Not the person you are asking but my opinion is:

the furniture is a bit 'shabby chic' - not to my taste as it just looks a bit cheap and mis-matched. Everything is a different colour and tone, all of the woods are completely different, even the styles are all a bit different. Some items very structured, others a bit saggy. It would lend itself better to a farm house style room, with tiles. Instead the carpet is so shiny and 'polished', and your house looks like a new build, it just doesn't work. Too much going on, and yet almost 'nothing' is going on. It's all just a bit meh

TatianaBis · 04/02/2022 15:49

In the first photo it looks brown and a bit wrong in the second it looks grey and absolutely fine.

If the grey is more accurate then you have nothing to worry about, if the brown well you'll get used to it and always cover with a big rug.

trunktoes · 04/02/2022 15:50

I love it

Lovesabadboy · 04/02/2022 15:51

*That's exactly how I would describe the colour..! Silvery shiny grey but then you run your foot over it and then like magic it's a minky brown!

I just can't take to it at all! I know it's only a carpet but it's in the main room of the house and I just wanted it to look nice but at the same time..practical!*

You have only had it 24 hours, give it time!
If you don't like it after 6 months or after it has flattened a bit, then maybe reconsider, but I know we couldn't afford to do our room again - it is a good quality carpet and cost a fortune!

How does it look at night, when you have the lamps/lights on?

I really do hope that it grows on you! x
