Boris - new low

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 01/02/2022 16:50

Obviously he's running scared from his own side as well and Labour and the excellent contribution from Ian Blackford - no doubt Dennis Skinner would have done the same if still an MP.

However, there was no need for Johnson to stoop to the level of more lies - this time trying smear Kier Starmer with untrue allegations about Jimmy Savile.

This was a new low yesterday though so not a new low today?

camperqueen54 · 01/02/2022 16:51

He's a swamp monster. He grovels about looking for a way to get his cowardly arse out of the shit he creates.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 01/02/2022 16:52

Even Raab wouldn't go that far

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab said: 'I'm certainly not repeating it... I can't substantiate that", when asked about it on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

Conservative MP Julian Smith tweeted that the claim was "wrong & cannot be defended".

Correct, I am posting about something from yesterday today.

I bet Raab wasn't going to repeat it - particularly outside of Parliament. Parliamentary privilege only stretches so far!

WindyState · 01/02/2022 16:55

There comes a point where you just have to accept that certain people are just fucking idiots and you are no longer surprised by what they do.

Boris passed that point about 20 years ago. He's an idiot, he does stupid things. Is the pope catholic?

Wafflesnsniffles · 01/02/2022 16:56

What Camperqueen said.
And as a commentator on R4 said - hes not all that interested in the business of politics. Hes much more interested in getting into a scrape/muddle and then enjoying the process of finding his way out. As if being in charge of the country is some sort of big game.

Despicable man.
Theres a long list of things hes said/done that are deplorable and yet people are still finding ways to defend him. I cant help but wonder what Boris needs to do to make them stop?

Just been listening to LBC, who spoke to a survivor of Savile’s sexual abuse. Unsurprisingly she’s upset about that scum Johnson using Savile to score points. Not only was it a lie, he didn’t care about further distressing Savile’s victims. What an absolute lowlife. How do the rest of the Conservative MPs look themselves in the mirror.

Kendodd · 01/02/2022 17:00

And don't forget Johnson described the police investigation historical child sex abuse as "spaffing money up the wall".

tomorrowalready · 01/02/2022 17:00

I have just read about this. It is a totally calculated distraction attempt based on appealing to what he assumes to be his supporters lowest common demonitor. Not surprising at all. When someone show you who they are, believe them.

draramallama · 01/02/2022 17:00

Some people are tremendously gullible.

Rockthefatskillz · 01/02/2022 17:01

@SamphiretheStickerist

I don't think it should have been said but, be fair, there have been threads here on the same subject. It is true, after all. Easy to verify too.

It won't become a lie, or in any way less reprehensible a fact, just because Johnson said it.

Eh? It’s widely acknowledged to be untrue.
Crazykatie · 01/02/2022 17:01

When did he have a high, he lied his way through the Brexit campaign and just carried on, he does not even know he’s doing it, when he goes who is untarnished to replace him.
Nobody I can see, so I guess he stays for now

It is NOT true. Fucking hell no wonder people keep voting for him.
CorrBlimeyGG · 01/02/2022 17:02

He's playing to his audience. They don't give a shit about facts, or about the victims of abuse, but any opportunity to rehash some anti Labour memes is a win for them.

SmallThingsEverywhere · 01/02/2022 17:02

@SamphiretheStickerist Can you verify what Johnson said?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/02/2022 17:02

You’re right - it’s very low and a wilful “misunderstanding”’of the system.

However it’s far from new - he’s said it before

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/02/2022 17:03

I know many lawyers both CPS and from his chambers who have worked with Keir Starmer and all speak extremely highly of him

I agree. He doesn’t have any moral compass, so will use anything and anyone whenever he feels like it. That smear was a dog whistle to his base. How very Trumpian.
mbosnz · 01/02/2022 17:06

Johnson’s insinuation in parliament that Starmer personally failed to charge Savile echoes claims made by online conspiracy theorists.

The fact-checking organisation Full Fact looked into the claim in June 2020. It found: “Mr Starmer was head of the [Crown Prosecution Service] when the decision was made not to prosecute Savile but he was not the reviewing lawyer for the case.”

"Starmer commissioned an investigation into the CPS decision not to prosecute Savile, and later apologised for “errors of judgment” made by police officers and the CPS prosecutor on the case. The investigation did not suggest Starmer was personally involved in the decisions made."

Except it's not true.
Honestly, I despair that even given Johnson's history of constantly lying there are still people gullible enough to believe him.

SamphiretheStickerist · 01/02/2022 17:07
@SamphiretheStickerist Can you verify what Johnson said?
What?

Journalists were taken to trial

Saville was not.

There have been many threads on both topics here.

And Starmer was in post for some of the period when both statements were true.

I'm not saying Johnson should have said it or that it wasn't a fucked up thing to say.

Tiramysu · 01/02/2022 17:07

I think this was yesterday or has he done something worse today?
