To be so annoyed by the term birth givers

Having seen that some NHS trusts have decided to use the term Birth Giver it has really annoyed me. It feels as though while they are trying to be inclusive, they are slowly ridding women of everything that is unique to them. Periods, breastfeeding, giving birth are now being generalized and it almost feels as though being a woman won't even be a recognized thing anymore.

Is there no way we can achieve inclusivity without reminding ourselves that women are the sex that do all of these things?

AIBU to be so annoyed by the term birth givers?

We’re in a city with enough trans/ non-binary pregnancies for it to be used.

And what kind of universe is it that makes this make any sense whatsoever?

I get it, those non binary women have exactly the same feelings as I do about gender stereotypes They don't like them, don't want to live within them, reject them and all those who endeaveour to enforce them.

But they remain female. Of one of the two sexes human being are. VSDs make no difference to that.

What they mean is that they are agender, anti gender, gender critical but for some odd reason have chosen to align with gender ideologists, possibly because is GC feminists are just not sexy enough!

And the trans mothers? Well! Given that a GRC requires an undertaking to 'live as the chosen sex' surely getting pregnant and giving birth negates that undertaking, so that individual is no longer 'trans' . No man, after all, can either get pregnant or give birth! Which of course is why Self ID is becoming more inmportant to some transmen.

All of which is absolute and utter baloney. Relies on sustained, internalised lying, The tension of that cognitive dissonance must be fucking horrendous!

@Meatshake

I don't see it the other way round, testicular cancer ads proudly refer to men, not spunk-givers, prostate checks are exclusively for men, not be-penised-persons.

Why is it so important that transwomen are recognised via female language adjustments while male language is left alone?

Right now I think I'd settle for the "genetically maternal parent" over birth giver 🤣

Prostate Cancer UK have said quite clearly (and sensibly) that they will use only men on their campaign materials. They do mention 'those who have a prostate' on their website but seem to be the sole example of this in men's health, services or products.

The push for 'inclusive language' only goes one way. I've never seen a good explanation from those pushing these changes to language as to why that is.

I think the concept of being non binary is very silly. They are male or female, just like everyone else. The idea that there are only two types of humans in any other sense whatsoever is ludicrous. Sure, if you want to reject gender stereotypes, more power to you. But you don't need to make a big song and dance about it by implying that everyone else conforms to them and only you are special, making you neither a man nor a woman.

Also, the moment you created a third gender identity, all gender identities became "non binary". Because binary means there are only two things.

Great point. How are people like Freddy McConnell respecting the committment they made to live as their acquired gender for the rest of their life? Men don't have babies!

babyjellyfish · 02/02/2022 08:27

@Waitwhat23 Great common sense response there from Prostate Cancer UK.

whysonasty · 02/02/2022 08:36

Birthgivers? First I’ve heard of it. Haven’t RTFT but it sounds a bit dehumanising. Like women are just faceless receptacles to hold and birth the progeny of the menfolk.

ThermalPinks · 02/02/2022 09:06

It's objectifying and undermining. Envy yuck.

ThermalPinks · 02/02/2022 09:09

@Somanysocks

Happy Birthgivering Sunday. HmmConfused
Blessed be the fruit

Basically it's just the new "I'm not like other girls".

And it's a way of girls and young women trying to opt out of being a woman (who can blame them) without coming under pressure to have a double mastectomy, a hysterectomy and testosterone treatment.

They don't even have to buy a check shirt or spend money on short haircuts. Win.

SamphiretheStickerist · 02/02/2022 09:38

You forgot the DMs! Gotta have a pair of DMs, or Kickers, under that uber stereotypical check shirt and short haircut!

P and shaw!

decafforme · 02/02/2022 09:48

I haven't rtft but yanbu!

It really does matter to the person who said it doesn't. It's piece by price eroding womens identity.

Having just given birth there is no way I would be referred to as this and anyone who tried would be quickly corrected.

The push for 'inclusive language' only goes one way. I've never seen a good explanation from those pushing these changes to language as to why that is.

Because it upsets male people who say they identify as women. If woman is used in the context of female biology and health issues ,then they are excluded because they have male bodies. Erasing mother and woman is not to include transmen and non binary people born female but rather not to offend the members of the male sex who want to be seen as women

And yet women who are childfree by choice, post menopausal or even infertile and completely devastated by it are not demanding that we stop using the word "women" in the context of pregnancy and motherhood because it excludes them.
Waitwhat23 · 02/02/2022 10:15

I think the only explanation I've seen is by an anti - woman poster who admitted that men's language isn't being changed and it was because men just won't accept it. They will just laugh it off as ridiculous.

Women have been socially conditioned to 'be kind' (an odious term) and to make sure other people's feelings aren't hurt even if it's to their own detriment. In short, to let other people's wants to be more important than their own needs.

Women and girls are being socially pressured into dropping their own boundaries in order to 'be kind' in a way that will never be expected of men and boys.

Did you see the webchat with Stella Creasy and Caroline Nokes yesterday?
Waitwhat23 · 02/02/2022 10:49

Yep. It was infuriating.

babyjellyfish · 02/02/2022 11:03

I loved how mad everyone got when they deployed "be kind".

Norgie · 02/02/2022 11:15

I blew my bananas at a woman at work who referred to breastfeeding as chestfeeding.
She reported me to our boss who fortunately took my side of things, although he did ask me to be a little more diplomatic in future.
I will continue to call out these ridiculous phrases until the day I die.
I am a WOMAN and a MOTHER who has BREASTFED my children.

I don't get the chest/breast feeding thing. They are breasts.
Norgie · 02/02/2022 11:17

And that be kind shit can fuck off too!!! Simpering claptrap!

I still don't understand why "women" becomes "menstruators" or "people with cervixes", when these are exclusively female body parts and functions, but "breastfeeding" is apparently a bridge too far.

Especially since I assume that trans men who have had double mastectomies will have to formula feed any children they have anyway.

What a nasty little snitch she was! And shows how far women have gone in their attempts to capitulate to the feelings of men who say they are women.

Yep "Be kinder!"
Norgie · 02/02/2022 11:44

@babyjellyfish Nor me. Only natural born post pubescent females can do these things.
To say otherwise is a bloody travesty! It's an insult to women, an insult that women should be shouting down!
I don't care what anyone ' identifies ' as, it's a basic biological fact!
Identify as what you like, but take your shit and keep it.
I identify as a bloody multi millionaire, but my bank manager would strongly disagree and refuse to put millions into my account, thus my being a multi millionaire is all in my head.
Much like the shit that birth givers and chest feeders spout.
A natural born woman needs to own it, be proud of it and kick the shit to the sewer where it belongs!

Yes yes yes!

Flowersandhearts · 03/02/2022 01:15

@Ohsugarhoneyicetea

Women are not birth givers, we are life creators - and I would be satisfied being called that. So why does this so called modern inclusive language not reflect this truth.
Good point! It feels instead as though we (female born, women) have to be referred to by something which sounds unpleasant, whether 'menstruators' or 'birth givers'.
