Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

@Lou197

I was once accused like this but the delivery driver had stolen the parcel and said he had left it with me, luckily we have cameras. Am sure the same thing has happened here - your poor neighbour.
How can you be sure of something like that?
Figgygal · 31/01/2022 21:29

Why lie about police? Just tell her you know she has it and have photographic proof and she needs to give it back

NeverChange · 31/01/2022 21:29

Contact both delivery company and the supplier immediately.

Did they send you a code or anything as if they did they are liable?
Can you enlarge photo or see logo or does the size of the package appear in it at all?

I assume that you didn't have an instructions saying it was ok.

Keep all screenshots.
Do charge back to credit card company if neither supplier or delivery accept responsibility.

I don't think police can do much.

PasswordEarth · 31/01/2022 21:30

Well that’s good in a way that you’ve got evidence in writing that she’s admitting the photo you sent her is of her house! She confirmed it was! That’s gold if it goes anywhere.

Baileys123 · 31/01/2022 21:30

This is we're cctv would come in handy

GrandDuchessRomanov · 31/01/2022 21:30

Whatever happens OP you do realise you are going to have to put your house on the market tomorrow"

Totalwasteofpaper · 31/01/2022 21:31

If your neighbour takes in a fair few parcels could it be the delivery guy?

I only suggest this as I had something similar-ish happen at my place of work…

It was an expensive item and I got sent a photo of my office along with a “signed for” signature (let’s say is was it was Ben jones who works in the post room) but no parcel notification from the mail room and when I chased they said they had nothing.

Delivery company wee adamant it was delivered…

When I investigated mail room still denied receipt… I showed them the signature and photo and we were at the point of reviewing cctv footage….the supervisor then clocked the date… it turned out “Ben Jones” who supposedly signed for the parcel was actually in the Caribbean on that day/week so clearly the courier stole it and faked the delivery knowing the details as he had delivered previously.
At that point the company backed down and sent a replacement.

BigFatLoser · 31/01/2022 21:32

I am so invested.

Harrysutton · 31/01/2022 21:33

The absolute cheek. Hope you get your item back OP.

TiddyTidTwo · 31/01/2022 21:34

Whoah
! This is crazy! Please do let us know what happens!

anon12345678901 · 31/01/2022 21:37

Wow.. your neighbour really has some cheek! I'd be telling all the neighbours what she does so they can all be wary of her! And I'd be making sure I get it back. Is there anyone who can go with you?

QuinionsRainbow · 31/01/2022 21:37

@ihateliningup

I can't believe post gets left with neighbours in the uk. Surely this is the reason why not to? It's a recipe for disaster. Why don't they take it to the post office?
Because in the ridiculous "free for all" "privatise everything" UK that we live in, the Post Office wouldn't have any interest in taking in something that another carrier couldn't deliver.
phishy · 31/01/2022 21:38

I’m on tender hooks! 🤣

EezyOozy · 31/01/2022 21:39

Eeee the cheeky bastard !! How dare shel lie after you had sent a photo of your parcel inside her house !! Following 🤩

Henlie · 31/01/2022 21:39

Whatever happens OP you do realise you are going to have to put your house on the market tomorrow

😅

CrymeaRvr · 31/01/2022 21:40

Are you POSITIVE it’s not a mistake?? Talk to the company and tell the. What’s happened. Was it on her door step and maybe someone nicked it?? Or it’s a bit of carpet that looks a bit like hers??

EezyOozy · 31/01/2022 21:40

it turned out “Ben Jones” who supposedly signed for the parcel was actually in the Caribbean on that day/week so clearly the courier stole it and faked the delivery knowing the details as he had delivered previously.

Ooh, was it the same courier as the cat food 🕵️

LetsGoParty · 31/01/2022 21:40

I wouldn't have lied about the police. If you have a photo of the item in her house and the item has the name on it then I'd go and visit her again. Do you have the photo from the pet food delivery?

iklboo · 31/01/2022 21:41

If your neighbour takes in a fair few parcels could it be the delivery guy?

Only if he opened the neighbour's door, stood in the threshold and took a weird selfie showing the parcel, neighbour's carpet & his feet.

MadeForThis · 31/01/2022 21:41

Was the parcel in the photo?

Wednesdayafternoon · 31/01/2022 21:43

I would just go back politely and show her the picture first. On the very off chance she might have forgotten or gotten mixed up or it's a misunderstanding. If she still denies then I would contact the retailer but do check your delivery preferences first as there might not be much they can do it you have allowed to leave with a neighbour!

Kelly7889 · 31/01/2022 21:44
