Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

It’s not your responsibility to find out what has happened to your parcel. The bottom line is that you’ve ordered something and it hasn’t been delivered to you, so the seller needs to send you another one and they can recoup their losses from the delivery company.
I’d report it to the police anyway, but ultimately they won’t do anything so you’d be better off treating it as ‘lost in transit’ with the seller.

Kelly7889 · 31/01/2022 20:54

I had this happen to me with a carpet cleaning machine I bought for my work (with obvious branding). The delivery company did nothing wrong and neither did the seller. I was told it was between me and the neighbour. I am 100% sure she lied, kept it and sold it on.

I now have a notice on my door say please not to leave parcels with anyone. Honestly it is not worth the hassle to take in parcels either, and people having things delivered need to be at the home when they arrive or else make arrangements to pick it up at a depot - these depots are everywhere.

Sorry for what's happened. It's an awful feeling. When I do online orders, I arrange for everything to come on the same day and I stay in. Sometimes I get it sent to me at work.

Balonziaga · 31/01/2022 20:54

Outrageous! is there anything that dates the picture?

Lou197 · 31/01/2022 20:55

I was once accused like this but the delivery driver had stolen the parcel and said he had left it with me, luckily we have cameras. Am sure the same thing has happened here - your poor neighbour.

How do you explain the photo then?

Not if the photo actually shows the door open with the parcel inside.
gettingolderandgrumpy · 31/01/2022 20:57

Mistakes do happen I know once ndn said a card was left that parcel at my house it wasn’t she was adamant it was . It turned out it was other ndn on the other side , dozy delivery driver got the numbers mixed up . In this case you have a photo to avoid denial but it’s odd she still denying but I suppose criminals do deny theft even when caught.

Pootle40 · 31/01/2022 20:57

People are so fucking weird. Who does this?

SmolCat · 31/01/2022 20:57

Does the photo show the item?

Do you have the pet food delivery photo still?

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 31/01/2022 20:58

@ihateliningup

I can't believe post gets left with neighbours in the uk. Surely this is the reason why not to? It's a recipe for disaster. Why don't they take it to the post office?
Because collecting it from the sorting office is a real PITA.

Ours is only open for about two hours a day so if you work, you can't get there at all.

LittleOwl153 · 31/01/2022 20:58

Make sure you do report it to wherever you ordered it from ASAP. Whether she owns up or not in the end you don't want to end up paying for something you didn't get.

stuntbubbles · 31/01/2022 20:58

Unless he handed over the parcel, took the photo, then said “Hang on, actually this is the wrong parcel”, retrieved the item, logged the parcel as delivered with the photo and neighbour’s address, then mind-wiped the neighbour so she wouldn’t remember any of this, then drove off in a hurry. Are there tyre marks on the road?

So the delivery driver knocked on neighbour’s door, took a photo of them to send to OP then buggered off without handing anything over, and neighbour didn’t think to mention it to OP when she knocked to collect her parcel? 🤔
Soakitup37 · 31/01/2022 20:58

I’m heavily invested in this thread now, I need to know the final outcome.

Op the fact that she admits that’s her house in the picture means she’s already admitting she recognises the background, the cheek of having the proof in front of you and still denying it.

If there was a tiny thread of chance it’s got mixed up /lost some other way as a neighbour I would be trying to help you locate it.

I’d open all avenues- tell her the company will report it as stolen and advise you to do the same, because that’s what it is, and hopefully the whopping great package will be promptly “found”

Although it beggars belief that she’s got the nerve to keep a package that’s hard a picture taken of it inside her house and she’s denying all knowledge.

I’d be livid and wouldn’t be taking packages for her in future…. Or would I?…..

mellicauli · 31/01/2022 20:59

Go back to the company. It is their problem. You contracted for them to deliver the goods to you. They broke the contract by delivering to your neighbour instead. They should recompense you (unless you were foolish enough to say this was OK).

stuntbubbles · 31/01/2022 20:59

Keep an eye on her recycling bin for your package’s outer wrapping!

TeddyTonks · 31/01/2022 20:59

Wowzers, she's got some brass neck 🍿Grin

She probably stole it from a neighbour
Amisillyornot · 31/01/2022 21:01

.

beetuljoos · 31/01/2022 21:02

I'm watching this and also a crime film but this is the one I'm most hooked on.

mumma2320 · 31/01/2022 21:02

Doesn't matter if it's £600 or £20 go back around with the photo of the parcel outside her house and if she still says she doesn't have it then I'd call the personally call the police and the company you bought it from, I hope you get it sorted xx

marqueses · 31/01/2022 21:03

She's a parcel stealing CF but at least she cares for the environment Grin Grin
Puffflashpuffflashbang · 31/01/2022 21:04

Omg! As a pp suggested screenshot the photo in the email with the time and date so she can't get away with the pet food rubbish.
She's 💯 decided she fancies your posh hoover and trying her luck!

Porfre · 31/01/2022 21:07

In the picture with the parcel. Is it definitely the right parcel?

The right size with the logos over it?

heyitsthistle · 31/01/2022 21:07

Can you ask her DH in person?
